Pay attention to the time of day. If you don't want to have to really feed everyone, make it an afternoon tea party, or something to that effect. You could offer a variety of teas, and then cookies, scones and muffins. Offering it in the afternoon also gives you all morning to prepare and set up, and then have a whole evening to wind down.
This isn't really a game, but a nice activity is to have everyone attending write one piece of advice to keep the marriage strong, and then to have the bride read them outloud (assuming there aren't a ton of people there)
I am a pastry chef, working from home, so if you would need any pastries, or cakes, for either event, feel free to contact me for menu, pricing, and ideas!
Good Luck!

I just planned a bridal shower last month. I am all about easy and low cost!!! I did 2 games with the guests' purses. First, when they arrived they had to weigh their purse on a bathroom scale. They had to write down the amount on an index card and keep it with them. At the end of all of the games, we gave prizes for the heaviest and lightest purse. Then we did a purse scavenger hunt. I made a list of common and uncommon items that might be in a purse and they got one point for each item that they had, whoever had the most points got a prize. Items on the list were everything from pix of bride/groom to condoms and tweezers. I also did a poem that I found at http://party-games-etc.com/bridal_shower_games.htm and gave out prizes for that. Finally, we did a who knows the bride best questionairre. The bride completed one and then whoever got the most items correct got a prize. The questions were things like: where did bride/groom meet, what is her fav food, resteraunt, what does she wear to bed....
Good Luck!

You are right August is very very early, but since she the bride is going back to college, I guess this would be the perfect opportunity to have the shower. There is a website called Bridalshower.com. They have a lot of ideas for themes and games. Also dont be afraid to ask for help from the other bridesmaids, since you are scheduling the shower around their school schedule they should be willing to help out as much as possible.

Hi N., when I read your question it reminded me of my wedding shower and how great it was. It was great because we did it at a great local restaurant which closed off a section of the restaurant for just the bridal shower. The food was great and we played games such as dividing into groups of 3-6 and each group competed on who could make the best bridal gown out of toilet paper. Everyone applauded to each of the dresses one at a time and whichever group got the loudest applaus would win. We played other games as well and we didn't care about the mess so much because we weren't in anyone's home. Plus no one had to go crazy and cook for everyone else while everyone had fun. In my opinion it is the best way to go. Then we drove to Atlantic city and partied all night with comped rooms and drinks. The following day we also got comped professional massages. And we topped off the weekend by laying out on the beach. It was the best bridal shower I've ever been to and I am glad it was mine:)

Hi N. -

I would suggest having it in a restaurant if you can so that all the food, drinks, etc. are taken care of (one less thing to worry about). Decorate with standard bridal shower decorations from a party store or even dollar store. Don't over do the games and stress yourself out. Buy prizes from the dollar store and play a few games. At my bridal and baby showers everyone loved winning even if it was a $1 candle or something like that.

Here is a link to free bridal shower ideas. They are pretty cool and may spark more ideas for you (i.e. when the bride is opening gifts, etc.) http://party-games-etc.com/games.htm#Get At my bridal shower we did the word scramble and that was fun. My friends also did a couple of other things that were fun. They asked my husband questions about me and read the answers at the party. I had no idea this was even done until the party. And also the bridal shower poetry in fun (see link) was read by my maid of honor and that was something everyone enjoyed. She bought each item listed in bold (which I was able to use) and held them up while reading the letter. It really was cute. Another option is to send recipe cards with the invitation and ask the guests to bring their favorite recipe with them to the party. You collect all the recipes and put it in a recipe box for the bride-to-be. You can get both at the dollar store I bet.

Good luck and feel free to send me an email if the link doesn't work or if you want more information.

Thanks!
S.

N.,

I am a little confused. You state that you have to plan a bridal shower in the subject line and then in the body of your request you say it is a baby shower. So which is it? I am giving my sister a Bridal shower in July and she is getting married in October. You can private message me if you want and I can give you some ideas for the bridal shower.

Hi N.~
I just planned two showers last month, so I'm getting good at it! :) One game that everyone enjoyed, but wasn't too cheesy, was gift bingo. You give everyone a blank bingo board/paper with as many squares as you choose. Before the bride opens her gifts give the guests a few minutes to fill in the grid with the names of gifts they think the bride will receive, i.e-comforter, nightgown, blender, etc. The guests check of the gifts on the board as she opens the gifts and the first guest to complete a whole row wins. You can give out a cute little gift to the winner.
Have Fun!

Hey N.,

This is my field. I work with my mother on planning wedding, bridal shower, etc. First you need to figure out where you can have it and go from there. After that you will need to find invitations and decide what you want to eat. Then the decorates and favors. Please let me know if I could help you even more.

A theme is a good idea if the bride has a favorite hobbie or place. I am in my cousin's wedding and we are doing a beach theme since she loves the beach: seashell paper invitations, the centerpieces are glass bowls filled with sand and shells with a votive candle and the favors are beach themed as well.

As for games, bridal bingo tends to get boring so we are doing a few others: 1) guess how many Hershey kisses are in the jar and the winner gets the jar of candy as the prize. 2) bride and groom trivia questions - whoever guesses the most correct answers wins. 3) use a timer and set it to go off every 10-15 minutes as the bride is opening gifts - whoever's gift she is opening at the time wins a prize. 4) Mad Lib - create a story with fill-in-the-blanks (verbs, adjectives, nouns, etc.) and ask each guest for a word - when you have all the blanks filled in, the bride reads the story out loud. You will get tons of laughs!

If you need specifics or a template for the Mad Lib, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com
