Help! Which Cloth Diapers Are Best? Mine Keep leaking.....so Frustrating!

I'm trying to find an AIO or a diaper cover that wont leak. My 9 mo. old son is 22 lbs and would wear a size 4 in disposable diapers. He has become allergic to all disposable diapers that I have tried (about a dozen or so). He kinda has a wide bum and the Kushies that I have tried are too narrow in the crotch. I've tried Gerber's vinyl covers and Bumkins waterproof covers, to no avail. And yes I am changing his diaper about every 2 hours. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I found a fabulous disposable diaper called Nature Babycare from diapers.com. We have been using them for a couple months now and my baby is not allergic to them. Supposedly these are the ONLY BIODEGRADABLE disposable diapers that exist. They are really absorbent, I can even use them for night time. They have not leaked and poops stay contained. You can't roll them up in a ball like other disposables but I find that if I tie the tabs in a double not I basically get the same effect. Anyway, I am thrilled to have found a perfect fit for us. Thank you all for your responses.

Hello R.,

I use Mommy's Touch AIO Touchtape diaper for my daughter and they are one size diapers too. I got mine at
http://www.nurturedfamily.com/
and I love them. I also have used Bum Genius pocket diapers but I like the AIO diapers much better. I had a leak this morning but that was after she had been in the diaper the whole night (from 8 last night to 7 this morning). I have nothing but good things to say so far about these diapers.

Good Luck!

V.

Try Motherease Diapers.

They are first off, wide in the crotch. They are considered a 'full-coverage' diaper. They are fitted diapers with a seperate covers. I personally, have too many leaks with AIO's. and pockets.

Their web site looks very dated, but the product is great!

Try the introductory offer, it gives you all you need to try them! They are also cheaper than AIOs.

Good Luck!

We use tiny tots diaper service and they have great covers. They also have a store that you can go to over the hill. They will show you the best way to use the diaper so it dosnt leak.

My son too, is a wide baby and just a big boy. I LOVE the bum genius one size diapers! They work so well and he can go a few hours (if we are out running errunds or shopping) with no problem. These are pocket diapers, which is great because at night I can put in 2 inserts and he doesn't leak for 14 hours!!! I've also heard that hemp inserts are the most adsorbant. Try cottonbabies.com. Good luck, I hope this helps.

hm...i would up the diaper changing to every 1.5 hours. sometimes my son leaks through in 1 hour. yeah...it's a lot, but it makes a difference.

i tend to use pockets. i have fuzzi bunz and bumgenius 2.0s, which are more common than a few of the others i have. i don't use AIOs. if you want a good cover, thirsties and bummis super whisper wraps get rave reviews, and you can trifold a prefold in it (no folding/pinning, etc.). tiny tots in campbell has bummis. they are a good place to check out. they also have fuzzi bunz and bumgenius. they can be pricey, but it's useful to see stuff in person.

GOOD LUCK! cloth diapering is quite a different animal than disposable diapering! let me know if you have any other Qs!

Stop what you're doing and take a trip to www.diaperswappers.com It's filled with hundreds (thousands, actually) of cloth diapering mamas who've been there, done that and have advice for all of your diapering woes and needs.
I got SOME info. on other boards, but hit the jackpot over there.
I've found Fuzzi Bunz to be great (tho fickle to certain diaper creams and detergents, and time-consuming to stuff) but they leaked once DD became in-between the small and medium sizes. A full year later, her thighs thinned out and she was STILL in-between sizes, so we switched to an all-in-one. There are many out there--Bum Genius being popular, as well as a newer Blueberry Diaper. Berry Plush by JamTots is RIDICULOUSLY absorbant (the diaper that we're sure to use when on road trips or out and about and not sure when we'll hit a bathroom next) and never leaked for us (tho some big-thighed babies have problems w/ fit.
There are a ton of choices out there. Diaperswappers will help you navigate.
In the meantime, try Old Navy's performance fleece pants (should be only $5 w/ Spring here now)--100% polyester covers such as these repel the moisture and, if well-fitting, will at least keep your sheets dry at night. They're also much more breathable than vinyl/poly covers if your little one's prone to rashing & easy to wear w/ just a t-shirt and no need for addt'l bottoms.
We ended up upgrading to wool interlock (like a really thick version of t-shirt material) covers so DD can wear regular pants during the day--they require hand-washing but only every few weeks or so, as wool is naturally antibacterial and breathable.
Contact me if you want to discuss more, but some things to consider--where are the leaks coming from? Out the legs (like maybe they're too loose?) Up the back? (is the soaker dripping wet which would suggest needing more absorbancy in the center. Are the diapers 'wicking'? (pee oozing toward the nearest cloth, such as a onesie? Onesies are terrible for drawing the pee out of the diaper. Get rid of the tight-fitting onesie and stick w/ t-shirts and this would be reduced greatly.)
