Help with Baby Sling

I was given one that was too large for me and it wouldn't hold my baby close enough to me and I had to support him with my arms (defeating one of the purposes of wearing a sling), so make sure you have the right size. I did a lot of research before buying my sling and it works great. I still sometimes wear my toddler when I'm cleaning or preparing dinner and he's bored and tugging at my legs or underfoot. He loves being "worn" and brings it to me. Anyways, after reading up on different kinds, I bought an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder on ebay for $10. www.KangarooKorner.com was a great resource and you can also buy their slings from their website or find some of them on ebay for a discount . hello! I don't have a simple answer to help you over email. However, this month's issues of Mothering Magazine has a great section all about slings and the proper use of them. The owners at Mother's Milk Boutique at Scottsdale and Shea are also very helpful with baby-wearing. I found that it took quite a bit of practice. And I still prefer the wrap much more than the sling. The wraps keep my baby much more secure (even when he was much smaller).

If you are not comfortable wit it, it is not for you. Your best bet is to invest in a front carrying baby harness. It worked great for my girls (all three of them). I could never figure our the sling. Try something different.

This might not be the advice you are looking for, but I also had trouble with slings and I actually just gave up and bought a PlayTex HipHammock and LOVE IT. If you are just looking for a way to carry your child hands free, stop by a store and give one a try. It is comfortable, easy to use, and unlike some carriers it is VERY easy to get your child in and out of without assistance.

NOTE: You may have seen where this product was recalled, but PlayTex bought the patent and fixed the problem and the product is completely safe and on shelves at most stores carring baby gear.

Don't give up on your sling! The benefits are too wonderful. First, you have to know what kind of sling you have and make sure it's the right size, if it's the type where size matters. Try to find someone in your town that can offer advice. I sell slings and offer free "training" if the mama needs it. And then six months down the road, they call me again to go over any new positions that might be better for an older baby.
