My 5 month old daughter has a horrible diaper rash. It is blood red and has what looks to be blisters that bleed. I have done everything I know to treat it, I have used vaseline, diaper rash cream, cream for a yeast infection everything I could think of. The only other thing I could think of is maybe she's allergice to the diapers. Any suggestions. I am going to take her to the dr on Monday but I was wondering if there was anything else I could do in the meantime.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded. I finally narrowed Emily's rash down to the diapers. I used Triple Paste and cornstarch which worked perfect. The rash went away, and the other day my husband put one of the old diapers on by mistake and there is was again(not as bad though). So no more Huggies for her.. Thanks again for all the responses.

I have a great remedy. Mix equal parts of mylanta, hydrocortisone cream(1%), aquaphor or eucerin lotion, and lotromin. Apply to diaper rash frequently. After 3 days, remix without the hydrocortisone. I know this sounds weird, but the mylanta and lotromin help to dry everything up, the aquaphor or eucerin lotion soothe, and the hydocortisone heals. It has worked for me for years. I am a mother of two girls (ages 6 and 2).

Someone told my mom to mix vaseline and corn starch together to make a paste. This was the best advice that i have ever received. It worked like magic, clearing up the rash very quickly. Let me know if you try it and if it works for her. hope this helps.

Resinol diaper rash medicine super thick works for us. It is a behind the counter product w/o perscription needed. We were given a perscription for something when my daughter was in diapers which was so expensive and the pharmisist recommended this.
It does not have the sting that the other store stuff has which made me kids scream and cry and of course gave me as a mother the total helpless feeling. Try it and put in on real thick!!!

If the diaper rash is that bad, maybe you should consider taking your child to a minor med clinic. In the meantime, try using a soft paper towel or wash cloth wet with cool water to wash baby's bottom. Baby Wipes, even the gentle ones, seem to hurt a bottom that has diaper rash. Also, Over the Counter Aquaphor Ointment is very healing to skin. I have used it on myself after a laser peel on my face, as well on my baby's bottom. When you see the doctor, ask for a prescription of Nystatin so that you can prevent the diaper rash from getting this bad in the future. Also, after the rash clears, try using the Lanolin wipes, found in the section for nursing mothers and not in the baby wipe section. It is very gentle for baby's skin. They come in a purple container. In the meantime, below is some additional info that you may find helpful. Good Luck!

DIAPER RASH
When your beautiful baby is born, her skin is often perfect in every way. It is softer and smoother than it will ever be again. You are dismayed when she wakes up and her bottom is red and irritated when you change her diaper. What happened! What did you do wrong? Absolutely nothing!

ALL BABIES HAVE DIAPER RASH!
There are many misconceptions about a baby's bottom:

It is supposed to be perfectly smooth and rash-free
Diaper rash is abnormal
Diaper rash is a sign of food or formula allergies
Diaper rash means the baby has bad diarrhea or a yeast infection
Having a diaper rash is a normal part of being a baby. There are many ways you can limit the amount of rash, but from time to time it will flare up again.

WHY BABIES GET DIAPER RASH
Start with ultra sensitive skin, add the chemicals and moisture of urine and stools, cover the area with a diaper that rubs back and forth, and you have diaper rash. This damaged skin is susceptible to the invasion of bacteria and yeast, which can make the rash worse.

SEVEN WAYS TO PREVENT OR MINIMIZE DIAPER RASH
If your baby does not have a problem with diaper rash, then you don't need to be too strict with these preventative measures. However, if you are constantly battling rash, here are some helpful hints to minimize it:

Change diapers frequently - at least every two hours in newborns. You can space this out as baby starts to urinate less often.
Change poopy diapers right away - this is a lot of trouble at first since newborns often have small, frequent stools. This will slow down as baby grows.
Try different brands - if using disposables, another brand may fit a little better and cause less friction.
Rinse cloth diapers - add a half-cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. This helps remove alkaline irritants. Your diaper service can also do this.
Wipe well - be sure to wipe all the stool and urine away.
Use unscented wipes or just plain water - these are less irritating. You can even rinse out the wipes with water, although this takes more time.
Diaper rash cream - some lucky babies don't need any. More sensitive bottoms need cream with each new diaper. There are two basic types of barrier creams:
Petroleum ointment (Original A & D ointment) - this is an excellent preventative every-day ointment. It's less sticky and less messy.
White zinc oxide - this is thicker and may be better for babies who are more prone to rash.
FOUR WAYS TO TREAT DIAPER RASH FLARE-UPS
No matter how diligent you are with the above measures, your baby will still have a rash from time to time. Here are some tips to treating those rough spots:

Wash off bottom with water - don't wipe the sore areas. Instead, use a bulb syringe to gently wash baby's diaper area.
Gently dab or pat away any remaining stool. Blot baby's bottom dry.
Let it air out - leave the diaper off for a while, with no diaper cream on. Lay baby on a towel (with a waterproof pad underneath to catch accidents) with her bottom up. Do this as often as you can. This will help dry out the rash, which is important for the healing process.
Diaper cream - when you do put the diaper back on, use generous amounts of cream. Here are some suggestions:

Zinc oxide - for the moderate rash.
Acid mantle - this is a brand name sold in stores. It is outstanding for moderate diaper rashes. Can be used with zinc oxide over it.
Butt paste or Triple paste - there are a variety of creams that a pharmacist can mix up for you that contain a variety of ingredients. These are good for severe rashes. One brand that is already mixed is called Triple Paste. Ask your pharmacist for some. It is non-prescription. This cream may be difficult to find, but most pharmacies can order it from Summers Laboratories (1-800- 533-SKIN).
Clotrimazole anti-fungal cream - for stubborn rashes, yeast may be involved (see below). You can add this over-the-counter cream to help.
Hydrocortisone 1% cream - you can put this over-the-counter cream on twice a day beneath any of the other creams to help with severe rashes. It will help with the inflammation. Don't use this for more than several days at a time as long-term use can damage the sensitive skin in the diaper area.
Soothe and heal by Lansinoh. This pure lanolin ointment is excellent for soothing sore bottoms.
Mix your own - if you can't get a prescription, try mixing these together in the palm of your hand, then apply to baby's bottom:
Zinc oxide
White petroleum ointment
Acid mantle
Aluminum acetate (Burrow's solution)
If you cant find Acid Mantle, then use Lansinoh (a lanolin ointment). It is available in the diaper cream section of drug stores.
IDENTIFYING SPECIFIC DIAPER RASHES
Here are a few diaper rashes that can be more than just irritation from the stool, urine, and diaper. They usually require more specific therapy:

Contact diaper rash - this is simply the regular rash as discussed above.
Appearance - flat, red, irritated skin. When severe, skin will peel or blister and slough off.
Treatment - as described above.
Intertrigo - this is a specific rash that occurs within the skin folds and creases around the diaper area where the skin rubs together.
Appearance - Heat and moisture mixed with urine cause a red, burn-like appearance.
Treatment - regular white petroleum diaper ointment.
Yeast rash - when the skin is damaged, yeast from the intestines can invade the skin. This especially occurs with antibiotic use or prolonged rash.
Appearance - it is a red, raised, patchy rash with sharp borders, mostly over the genitalia but with satellite spots sprinkled around the diaper area. Click here to view a picture of a yeast diaper rash.
Treatment - in addition to the above measures, there are two commonly used anti-fungal creams:
Clotrimazole - over-the-counter. Apply 2 - 3 times a days beneath the other creams.
Nystatin - prescription. Not necessarily better, just different.
Acidophilus - this is a natural bacterial powder that fights off yeast. Click on it to learn more.
Impetigo - this occurs when bacteria invade the damaged skin.
Appearance - coin-sized blisters or red raised patches that ooze a honey-colored crust.
Treatment - prescription antibiotic ointment as well as the above general measures.
Seborrhea - an inflammatory condition that can affect different parts of the body, but can be especially severe in the diaper area.
Appearance - a big, red, sharply demarcated patch over the groin, genitalia, and lower abdomen. It can be more raised, rough, thick, and greasy than the other rashes.
Treatment - hydrocortisone 1% cream (over-the-counter) 2 - 3 times a day. Don't use more than a week unless directed by your doctor.
Allergy ring - a variety of foods can irritate baby's bottom, especially acidic foods such as citrus and tomato-based sauces.
Appearance - a red ring around baby's anus.
Treatment - discontinue suspected foods. Breastfeeding moms may need to eliminate foods from their diet.

My daughter was terribly allergic to certain brands of diapers. The only ones that I found that she could wear without breaking out was Pampers. Though I had another friend that the only thing her baby could not wear was Pampers. My suggestion would be if you have been using a certain brand, try something different. I would definitely take her to the doctor and changing diapers is not going to immediately make things better but at least when you take her you can tell the dr. exactly what you have tried so far.

Hello,

I was responding to your request about your daughter's diaper rash. My daughter had horrible, sometimes bloody diaper rash when she was a baby. I believe it was caused by her skin sensitivity to the perfume in Pampers diapers, and by all of the antibiotics that she took for ear infections. Antibiotics will cause a "yeast" diaper rash. You are wise to take your daughter to the doctor and let him/her have a look. They may prescribe "Nystatin" ointment if it is yeast. We used Nystatin, Huggies diapers (no perfume), and Aquaphor cream (from the drugstore-similar to vaseline but better) to help control our daughters diaper rash. Also, letting her go for periods of time with no diaper on (this can be messy) really helps. Good luck to you, A.

S., my son is now 2 1/2 yrs old and in the past he has had bad reactions to wearing a certain brand of diapers, so it is possible that she could be allergic to the diapers. As for the rash itself, my sister told me about a brand of ointment called Aquaphor that really works wonders on diaper rashes. I tried it and it is very affective. The funny thing about it is that a friend of mine had her pediatrician prescribe some medicated cream for her daughter and it has Aquaphor as one of the ingredients in the compound. I have also found that Aquaphor works great on bug bites. Hope this helps. C.

S.,

Take the diaper off and let her go! Sometimes the plastic diapers can irritate their skin....if you have a safe, grassy place outside, you might consider taking off her diaper and let her roam around. The air will be good for her bottom, and moisture will not get locked in. For diapers, you may want to try clothe diapers when you are home, they let air reach the bottom, so less rashes can occur. Good luck!

My son had a similar rash a few months back. Rashes like this are really common during the diarreah/vomiting bugs that spread like wildfire. All of those diaper changes can wreak havoc on tender skin.

It got so bad one time that when I would wipe my son's bottom and pull up his legs to put the diaper on, the blood would be running down his bottom to his back. As a previous poster suggested, the doc recommended baking soda baths and patting with a vinegar water solution, but both just made him scream. Maybe if you try these before the skin is broken down too far....

It seemed like Vaseline or Aquaphor sealed in the heat of the rash making him more uncomfortable. For my two kids, Desitin (applied liberally- like a half dollar amount) and time were the only things that made a difference. Also, remember that as long as you get the poop off, you don't need to wipe off ALL of the Desitin at each diaper change. The less you wipe, the better.

Certain brands of diapers DO make my son break out more than others.

Also, check your wipes- some of the actually contain ALCOHOL!!!!!!! Could you imagine????? I always -ALWAYS- keep a box of the sensitive type of wipes in the closet just for the times his bottom is irritated.

Good luck. It's so hard to see our little ones in pain.

I feel your pain, we went through this. Put a thick layer of desitin, followed by a layer of A & D ointment, then if able let her lay on a towel without a diaper as much as possible. The air seems to help. And when you are at the dr's ask for a prescription of Bactroban cream, and I always get a prescription of nystatin cream ( it is for yeast but when you put it on with the bactroban cream it works wonders)

I don't know if any come without perfumes, but try for something as lightly scented as possible. How long has this been happening? Have you changed her diet? Could it be something in her stool that is irritating her little bottom? Good luck.

try letting her go bare bottomed for a little while. it will be messy but the rash may just need to air out. My son had the same problem a few times. Or try cloth diapers. The airing out is the most important part. right now there is really nothing you can put on it to make her feel better, anything is going to hurt going on or coming off, and it probably won't stick anyways. Try Triple Paste. It's medicated for severe diaper rashes. That's what my dr told us to use if our baby developed a severe rash. She also recommended Aquaphor, a thick moisturizer. Also, with my daughter, I had to keep her out of diapers for a couple of days so the skin could "breathe." I put her on the floor with a plastic trash bag under her with towels over that and just changed them whenever she made a mess. Keep the triple paste on her skin as heavy as possible. It provides a barrier and protects the skin from the moisture. As for wiping, I agree with one of the other responses, that it irritates the rash. I had to use a warm, wet wash cloth and just dab. However, rinsing in the sink probably works better. These are all tips from my pediatrician.

Absolutely change diaper brands. My daughter has very sensitive skin, and would have the same kind of rash that you describe. We tried everything to get rid of it. I finally tried switching diapers and it was gone within a couple of days. She has an allergy to an ingredient in the gel of one of the off brand diapers, and when she peed it would get on her skin and cause this horrible reaction. We use LUVs or Huggies now, and haven't had the rash since.

Poor thing!

I would let my daughter roll around on towles with no dipaer. I also went outside with her and let the sun shine on her bottom. Sun is very helpful. One more suggestion (it's a little odd but it's magic)...if you're breastfeeding, you can put some breastmilk on it and let it air dry. It's got amazing healing properties.

Anyway, keep her dry and let the air and sunshine on it. If the nurse/doctor says it's okay, give her the recommended dose of Tylenol or Motrin if she's old enough for that. Good luck!

Actually that is probably the case. Allergic to the diapers that is. I had a few that had that same problem. Have you tried all the different kinds to see if the rash persists? If it does then you can always use cloth. They are great nowadays if you get the prefolded ones. And they have premade pants that you can put over them so it is as easy as changing a disposable. I personally use vaseline and powder to try and create a nice barrier between bottom and diaper. Vaseline doesn't have any nasty fragrances or chemicals and usually works pretty well. Use power that has cornstarch in it or you can use an old mommy recipe and that is to take some cornstarch and brown it in a pan dry till it is golden. Also letting baby be without a diaper for a while during the day to let the tush get some air is good too and warm baths. I know keeping a baby around without a diaper on can be a bit difficult but she will feel much better. Well that is my advice LOL They used to have this diaper rash creme out by Johnson and Johnson called perianal or some such thing. It was WONDERFUL but not sure if they still have it out or not. My youngest is 6 and even my grandbaby is 5 so I am having to really dig deep to remember all of this LOL

Hi S.!

I didn't see this in any of the answers, but it works VERY well,
-First clean her botton only with water
-Pour some oatmeal in warm luke water in her little tub and keep her there for at least 10 min
-Pat her skin dry and try to keep her without diapers as long as you can
-when you put the diapper, after you coat her bottom with a thick layer of diaper rush cream, "sprinkle" some corn starch on her bottom.YES corn starch, This will prevent the stool and wetness from sticking to her little botton and will be easier to clean her, you wont have to wipe to much, irritating it even more.

-REPITE after every change of diapper.

Believe me it will work wonders!

This also happened to one of my babies after antibiotic tretament, it got ugly, but this helped tremendously.
Incidentaly, I have twins too! mine are 2 1/2.CONGRATULATIONS!!! and you WILL survive, trust me!

Best of luck!!

PS: To me the best diapper cream is the original Desitin.

Last time my daughter had a rash like that was when she was 6 months old. I was out of state and I just went to the pharmacist in Wal-Mart and explained the situation. Luckily, she was sympathetic and told me that what I needed to do was buy some Lotrimin cream. She advised me to mix equal amount of
diaper rash cream and Lotrimin. In one day the baby's bottom was already 75% better. The pharmacist said that baby's bottoms are mostly in diapers where it's warm and dark, which is a perfect place for bacteria and fungis. If you have any questions please contact me at ###-###-####. I'd say this sounds like it could be a strep infection. Take the baby to the doctor to get a culture. This doesn't sound like an ordinary diaper rash, allergy or yeast infection because you've tried alll of the usual stuff and nothing ghas worked. Also, the white bumps sound like it's infected.

Hope your Doctor had some words of advice. Especially if it's yeast -- nystatin is a huge waste of time --- most yeast is resistant to it(80%). If it's yeast there is liquid Duflucan. And then there's Boudreaux's Butt Paste which works wonders for a variety of reasons's, but it contains Boric Acid which is why it's so effective on yeast... Yeast rash starts out bumpy, but can turn into a "scald" if not cleared up quickly.
I've noticed some of the reply's suggest using corn starch in a variety of mixtures --- just be careful if yeast is involved as the cornstarch can "feed" yeast.

My son had "0-60sec" rashes -- rash that would get ugly in just one diaper change. Yogurt is a wonderful baby food (you can mix alomost anything in it)that also contains probiotics to help return the balance of healthy "flora". It also will help acidic stools that can "burn" delicate bottoms.
So as a baby nurse for 12 years and a Mom who's had the same thing happen --- Best of luck!!!

P.S. Before using yogurt, ask your Doc. Usually after 6months it's OK unless there is a milk issue. Stoneyfield Farms has the highest concentration of "probiotics" and does not contain highfructose cornsyrup......

When diaper rash got really bad on my baby, I used pure lanolin. I used Lansinoh, but it was hard to find. I know Medela makes their own which is much easier to find. That is also what was recommended by the lactation consultants at the hospital when I had blisters from pumping.
I have heard of babies being allergic to fragrance in some diapers. I'd try another kind of diaper also.
Another thing I have done for diaper rash is soak in a bath with just a little baking soda. (Great for adults too.)
These have worked for my baby-- hope all goes well with yours!! :)

S., the best cream ever for diaper rash that I have come across is something called "Happy Hiney Ointment". It is a paste just like the rest of them, but it contains so much more that your normal creams. It contains Nystatin(i believe that is right) and small granules of something. The doctor had to prescribe it and the Pharmacist had to mix it. I hope your Dr. has heard of it or something like it. It worked wonders for both of my boys. Also for instant relief, you can dab milk-of-magnesia on it with a cotton swab. Just recently my son had a severe diaper rash (open blisters...), we would dab that on occasionally and let him go diapeless or just put loose pants for the carpet's protection. I hope this helps. I can find out more about the ointment if you need me to. Good luck, A.

Hello S.! My daughter which is one now had the same thing. I only use Destin on her. I did change her brand of diapers. I would let her just sit in warm water for a little while and then dry her really good. I put her Destin on and a fresh diaper. Something else that may work is to let her run around for a little while with no diaper so she can get some fresh air. Hope everything goes well.

This happened to my daughter very rapidly when I changed diapers. She could be allergic to the diapers.

Try to dry it out with cornstarch, but definitely get to the doctor, because it might be a staph infection if it gets out of control. Have you been in any pools or bathtubs at hotels, vacations to the beach, or in lakes where she could have picked up a secondary infection? Just some things to think about that you could tell the dr.

My little girl couldn't use regular diaper rash medicine either. The stuff u get at Walmart seemed to burn her bottom and make it break out worse. I went to a pharmacy in my home town and got a compounded butt paste. I don't know of a particular pharmacy around here but you could check to see if the pharmacist compounds any of his own medications and ask around for a butt cream. It was soothing and didn't burn. The kind I found had chalamine and some sort of vasaline like substance and some little grainy pieces. It was about $13 a tube but it would cure her diaper rash in about 2 days. I used it until she was out of diapers. The dr can also perscribe something called nystatin for baby yeast infections and I used that every now and then just to keep any thing from coming back. good luck.

Have 7 children, and have had this issue MANY times! The very best cure is air. Don't put any creams or anything on it. Just let the baby go naked for a few hours. Maybe sit her in the bath for a while. It very well could be the diapers. Some brands put perfumes into the fabric that babies are highly allergic to. All mine were allergic to Pampers, but could wear Huggies or Luvs just fine. You'll have to experiment with that. Meanwhile, I'll be praying.

They have some type of oatmeal bath that you soak them in that really helps. Can't remember the name of it, but they carry it at Walgreen's. Use it several times a day to heal ASAP. Secondly, I'm a SAHM of a 2 year old boy with no other children and from what I hear, girls tend to be more sensitive there, but what I've learned is that if you put Desitin Cream, the original kind, not the creamy stuff, on them just about every time you change their diaper and when they're through with the bath in the evening, before putting them down for the night, it gets rid of the problem very quickly and will also prevent future irritation. I started doing this when my son got his first diaper rash/burn, and I've never had a problem since. Also, don't allow her to sit in a wet diaper for very long. Girls skin just can't be allowed to stay wet as long as a boys can.
Good luck.

S. this advice may be late coming, however, there is one primary reason for diaper rash: wetness.
Change your infant's diapers at least every two hours and immediately when you feel she has soiled them. Do not use baby wipes to clean when she has a rash. Use cotton pads wet with luckwarm water (available at any drugstore or WalMart). Allow her skin to air dry completely before applying any ointments or diaper creams. These creams act as barriers between her skin and her urine, so if you put cream on top of wet skin, you just lock in the moisture, further aggravating the rash.
The diapers may or may not be the real issue. Pampers are used most in hospitals, as they have a wicking ability that far exceeds other brands.
Another tip: allow baby to roam diaperless for several minutes several times a day. Nothing heals better than being completely dry.
Now, if the rash does not improve, it is possible the rash has become a host to bacteria or a yeast, and at that point, a visit to the physician is warranted.
Hope this helps! V. P, RN

Hi S.,
I hope your little girl is doing better now. I wanted to also let you know that just rinsing her bottom with warm water is great to do instead of using wipes. And also give her as much "air time" as possible. If she can be without a diaper go for it! Bare bottoms are often seen in my house :o) We use a salve called Baby Butt Butter, it has self-heal in it which really works great. I notice a big difference in my son's rashes within hours of using it, usually by the next diaper change I've seen improvement. It's only $8 for a jar, and it lasts forever - oh and it's all natural and herbal so it's good for babies! You can find more info here: https://www.naturalfamilyboutique.com/Shop/Products/NFB30....

He's had a similar rash before that we think was an allergic reaction. It appeared everytime we put one of the swimming diapers on him to get in the pool. So it could very easily be the diapers. I know that they make diapers for babies that are sensitive, but I'm not sure what ones. I think that pampers swaddlers may be that way. You might want to think of getting a small bag of a different diaper and try them for the weekend and see if it makes a difference. At this point, all I have are guesses as well. Hi S., I worked in an infant daycare for 4 years, and my youngest had very sensitive skin to both diapers and foods that would cause a terrible diaper rash, especially antibiotics, which we later found out he was allergic to penicillian. The two different remedies that I found to work really well were (1) Flander's - sometimes you have to ask the pharmacist, as it is usually kept behind the counter. (2) this is a three layered remedy that was recommended by several pediatricians: first apply lotramin cream(anti-fugal - can sometimes be caused by yeast), on top of that, apply desitin or whichever diaper cream you use in a fairly thick layer, then on top of that, a thick layer of Petroleum Jelly. All this allows it to heal without urine or poop to aggravate it. Also, do not completely rinse it off each diaper change, unless of course its a bowel movement. Use a wash cloth instead of wipes. Reapply 4-6 times or as needed. This works wonders. good luck!

Dear S. -

My first son was prone to diaper rash and I read (maybe it was in What to Expect the First Year), that the best thing to do was NOT to use wipes but to simply change the diaper when the baby had a wet diaper and to rinse him off in the sink or tub when it was a dirty diaper. I think all that wiping irritates the skin. It worked great for my son. I did start using wipes when he got too big to rinse off in the sink, but I have always used Pampers Sensitive Touch wipes and have found that they definitely help. Good luck!

my daughter had the same sort of thing, though your daughter's rash does sound pretty bad. We narrowed it down to the diapers being the cause. After using every brand we ended up using White Cloud. During that process the Dr told me to use Triple Paste ointment. It was REAL expensive and can only be bought at a few stores, Walgreen's being one of them. Then I ran across "Boudreaux"s Butt Paste"...don't laugh, it worked, it was about $3 instead of $10, we compared the ingredients in both and the Butt Paste had more of the Zinc Oxide (the active ingredient) than the more expensive brand. So, we changed diaper brands, used this paste, but also only used water to wash her off and used cloth diapers a lot and allowed a lot of air time.

Good luck and I hope the rash heals

Once they stopped giving her juice it went away. My daughter has now been able to wear all other brands of diapers but Luv's, but a good one to try is White Cloud. They do not have a strong scent that sometimes seems to make a bad diaper rash worse. Hope all works out!!

Hi S.!
When my daughter was an infant (now 5 yrs) she also had awful rashes that were sometimes bleeding too! I felt terrible! To immediately comfort her I would give her warm baths with a little baking soda and then pat dry, and left to feel the "natural breezes" for a little while!!! But to treat the rash my mom gave me something called "Pinxav" (pronounced Pink Salve). It works MIRACLES!!! Her rash would improve by the end of the day, and gone within a day or two. I applied a LITTLE bit at every change! Even now, I use it at the first sight of a rash on my 2 year old son (or give it to my husband!! lol!) It comes in a tub with a black and gold label. She found it at Drug Mart in Ohio, I have not needed to buy more because a little bit goes so far, but you can call and check with Wal-greens or your local drug store to see if they carry it.

As far as diapers, we had to use Huggies diapers, generics and Pampers gave her rashes!! But I had a friend who could only use Pampers on her son. I also found when my daughter got older and she had anything citrus she would rash terribly. You may find that certain foods may affect her differently! Not one kid is like the other!! I hope you find what works for you!!!

I have used neosporin (sp??) and that stuff that keeps nipples from cracking when breastfeeding. You also should try to keep the baby as dry as possible (which means changing lots of diapers sometimes) Good luck!

Ouch! That must really hurt for your little baby...In the first place, never use vaseline as it is oil base and the skin is not able to breathe.

What you can do now is to 'air' her bottom..ie, let her go bottomless for a while; say perhaps 15 mins before putting her back in diapers or preferrably just wear a panty for her. It would allow the sore to dry up and heal. In fact, even she is better, you can also 'air' her bottom for a few minutes before diapering her as it will help to keep the area dry and prevent rash from developing.

When my daughter was little, I used a medicated nappy rash cream for her when it is bad. I think you may be able to find one in the pharmacy to apply for her after 'airing'.

A little about myself: I'm a 42yo stay home mum with a 15 year old daughter and 2 boys age 13 and 11.

Let her take a nap with out a diaper. Nothing can cure diaper rash qicker than letting it air out, maybe thats not the right choice in words. But it worked on all 5 of my kids. It can be messy to clean up but it can't hurt any more.

We recently had to deal with a bad diaper rash on our 15 month old (not to the extent that you are decscribing). One of the things that really helped was to let her go without a diaper and to use cloth diapers and change them frequently. I put our daughter to sleep with out a diaper and placed a cloth diaper under her and padded the bed well. One night of getting air to her bottom helped a lot. Good luck!

My son still gets terrible rashes at almost three. Our pediatrician told us to put so much ointment that you couldn't see skin. It feels better but, unfortunately nothing really seems to work. I know it's got to hurt like hell. If you can let her go without a diaper after each change it will let it kind of air out a little. It helps a little. Sam's usually happen every 6 or 8 weeks and last for about a week. He gets the open sores too. We did try switching diapers too but really the best thing is just to change her as soon as you notice she's wet or poopy and then let it air out a little bit

Also, rinse your baby wipes in water first. The chemicals in the wipes burn

My son had a bleeding diaper rash like that when he was just a few weeks old and when I took him to his pediatrician he gave us a Rx for Hydrocortisone cream. It wasn't anything special -just the hyrocortisone and it worked great. If you have some in your medicine cabinet that may help until she sees Dr. He/she may want to prescribe something else stronger or different if there is any infection. Hope she is feeling better soon.
