I have not had a hysterectomy, but I have had hot flashes and night sweats. My DO recommended that I take black cohosh and soy. I use extra strength Estoven and it works great! It took a couple of weeks to build up in my "system" but I have not had a hot flash since.

I work for a company that sells natural supplements that could help you. The company has been around for 25 years, and has a great reputation. They have a product called Hormone Balance, and Female Nutrients. Many women have taken them instead of hormone drugs for the same reasons you don't want to. I recommend you call for a brochure, and tell them what your issues are; someone will help you choose the right products for you. Call Nutrapathic at 800-747-1601, or local is St. Louis at ###-###-####.

I would highly recommend Arbonne's Phytoprolief natural hormone balancing cream! It has been on the market for years and has worked wonders for many women I know...(including myself for moodiness and those hormonal break outs!)

It is made from bio-identical hormones found in plants and it is totally safe and body friendly. The best part is it doesn't contain nasty things like horse urine or worse! YUCK! All of our products are pure, safe, and beneficial and go through extensive testing. It is not synthetic, so it does not come with any of the risks of hormone replacement therapy.

I can send you some information if you are interested in hearing more about it. I think this is one of the best products (out of over 450) that Arbonne has designed! :)

Best wishes!

S., I had a Hysterectomy long ago and found Remifemin to be very helpful in the relief of Menopausal symptoms. You can find it at any Walgreens drug store. Everything in it is natural .. It takes a few weeks to really start working, but it does work.. Hope you have the same experience with it that I have had.

I am 35 and had a hysterectomy last January. I too have the hot flashes. I decided afteer a few that I would try cool cloths, and I even take them to bed with me, I also sleep with a fan on me on low, and it generally works for me. I can't say that it does for everyone, but it does not hurt to try.... Try taking some over the counter items, or consult a physician, and explain your situation... I am not one for meds or vitamins just do not like to swallow pills. lol.... :)Good Luck....

S., I have done alot of research on harmone replacement therapy natural and unnatural, the bottom line I came up with is this, you will have symtoms of too much of one harmone and different symtoms of not enough of a particular one.
Here are probably the worst symptoms for each harmone to me.
Not enough estrogen we age faster, not enough testosterone we lose our drive for more than just sex.
Harmone imbalance will mimic depression.
But there is hope, mother nature makes us a harmone to counteract all the bad stuff harmones do to us, and it is progesterone,
the natural progesterone is wild yams and a mixture of soy.
An average woman produces 25mg a day of it, but a pregnant woman produces up to 400 mg of the stuff.
The best I ever felt in my life was when I was pregnant.
So that told me that is the key ingredient that I was missing after my hysterectomy.
These pharmacutical companies take a natural product like pregnant mare urine full of progesterone and then change the molecular struture by adding synthetics so that they can patent it and give us cancer. (premerin)
Find a compounding pharmacist to do a saliva test, or go to www.happypms.com they sell progesterone cream for like 20.00 for a month supply.
Gnc has a cream or a pill you can take that is all natural.
Stay away from drugs that convert over to estrogen (too much of it can make us batty)
DHEA converts over to testosterone, and too much of that can cause male pattern baldness.
All of our harmones have good and bad side affects, that is why it is important to be tested to make sure your levels are what they should be, untreated and too elevated can cause adrenal exhaustion from our body trying too hard.
There are lots of alternatives.
good luck to you.

I am not quite there yet, but I experience night sweats really bad. I had a lady tell me to increase my soy intake. I have not tried this yet but thought I would share it. She said she has went through menopause without hormones.

It seems from what I can learn, the symptoms are more drastic when you have a hysterectomy so hang in there.

Hey S.!

I, too, had a total hysterectomy in January. I will be 40 in August. I was concerned about hormone replacement therapy as well because my mother had breast cancer. When I spoke to my gyn about this, she said they thought that the CA was caused by a combination hormone replacement therapy of progesterone and estrogen. She said they do not believe that estrogen-only hormones is dangerous and now has me on estradiol. It is wonderful. Very little flashing. NO mood swings. I am not tearful. I am an RN and my hubby is a breast cancer surgeon (a general surgeon who only deals with mostly women with diseases of the breast), and he, too, agrees with my gyn--even with my mother's breast cancer history. I would see if you could try estradiol (estrogen-only). It comes in a patch or a pill. I personally take the pill. Get your yearly mammograms and try not to worry.

There are a number of safe herbal products you can take for hot flashes -- some of the more common ones are black cohosh, don quai, and there are homepathics (completely safe) that help like lachesis. Go to Clovers (local health food store) and ask and assistant for some help or call me and I can order a product called Flash Ease (from Nature's Sunshine) for you and have it shipped directly to you. I am S. - ###-###-####. I also have a Cymatherapy machine (sound resonance machine) approved by the FDA which helps the body heal itself through sound vibration. It is especially helpful after surgeries and can also help with hormone imbalance. Let me know if I can help you.

I've heard that soy products and Black Cohosh will help. My current partner takes estratest (HRT but she has no history in her family of cancer, plus she was in her 30's when she had her hysterectomy).

Good luck...

I see someone else on here has already recommended Arbonne's Phytoprolief natural hormone balancing cream! I myself have been using it for about 2 years now and love it! I ran out once and didn't have any for a couple weeks and boy did I feel it!!! I won't be without it again!!! It's a natural product so there is no risk of side effects like you would have with synthetic versions. However, if you are unsure, I would be happy to send you some info and you can check with your doctor. Just know that it is all too common these days that many docs recommend the synthetic versions rather than the natural ones and the risks associated with that are just plain scary! Arbonne's natural hormone balancing creams are what has help put Arbonne on the map and our sales started going through the roof! The key ingredients are: Black Cohosh, Chaste Tree Berry Extract, Dong Quai, Evening Primrose Oil, Red Clover, Alfalfa Extract, Licorice and Ginseng so it's very good for you and a great natural way to fight off hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause. I travel back & forth between KC and Wichita a lot with my business! I would be more then happy to get some info to you so you can check it out further.

Feel free to browse my website to check out all that we have to offer....over 450 products! All our products are pure, safe, and beneficial, contain no animal products or by-products, no mineral oil, no chemical dyes or fragrances, go through extensive testing before ever being placed on the market. We offer a 45 day money back guarantee and I can show you how to get yours at a discount (no selling required)!

I wish you the best in your search for the right hormone replacement therapy! I know what those hot flashes can be like...NO FUN!!!

There is a Yam preparation that my chiropractor gave me that really helped when I was going through natural menopause. It mimics, yet is not, hormone replacement therapy. If the cancer in your family is NOT breast cancer, then I would talk to my doctor about the risks. My Mother and her sister had BC, so I felt it was too great a risk. THe other cancers in my family didn't concern me on this. But in the meantime, find a chiropractor or a an ND (Naturopathic Doctor)to get some of the yam cream. I also found that sleeping in and on cotton or one of the new "wicking" fabrics helps. Do a Google on hot flash nightgowns. Good Luck to you!

I haven't had this problem yet. However I am a firm believer in herbal natural remedies. I'm not sure exactly what you would use, but if you have a Clover's or other natural foods store, I'm sure they would be able to help you with some aromathery or oils that would be beneficial. The Clovers Natural martket has a website that may have some useful suggestions also. www.cloversnaturalmarket.com Hope this help! Good Luck!

S., you need a doctor who is really knowledgable about this sort of stuff. I haven't found that person in the KC area yet, but am still looking. Meanwhile, if you can't find a local doctor who knows enough about this stuff to help you, there's a clinic on the east coast that does consultations from a distance. Their website is www.womentowomen.com. Find your way to the information about a real consult - not one of their canned programs. They are a real women's clinic, but they also sell their stuff online. I would avoid their canned program until after you have a consult, bloodwork, etc, and then see what they specifically recommend for you.

I hate night sweats! Good luck.

Hello S.,
Now in my 50's I too started having hot flashes. I know Black Kohash is a plant that helps. I started taking pills with this and went from about 11 or more a day to perhaps 4 or 5 with some days w/o any, Now I'm taking liquid vitamins from my homopathic chiropractor called "LIQUID HEALTH Women's Balance 40+". It runs me about $30/mo taking the recommended 1 1/2 oz. per day. I also switched to Soymilk the same time I started these. I still have some very slight flashes once in awhile, but also have more energy and am getting stronger fingernails. I will be reading your responses for other tips.
God be with you.
