Hi, My 4 year old biracial daughter (puerto rican and african american) has the thickest and curliest hair. It is so tough to care for. I can never get a comb through it I have been using cholesterol when I wash it and it seems to help. What is a good leave in conditioner and moisturizer to put it in when done. Also, she has now been swimming in our pool every day, what can I do when she gets out, it is next to impossible to comb through it. HELP!!!!!

What can I do next?

=pool hair - get a swim cap on her head . it will help both of you .[ sallys or sporting goods store]
= buy giant strong pics at sallys , lots of them
= buy proclaim [ clear] glossing polish $2.00 bottle
can be put in dry hair or wet can also be mixed w/ warm water in a spray bottle [ pool side]
Holly loves me for letting the secret out !!!!
= do not be afraid of adult hair products for child.
she has adult hair .
= SILK ELEMENTS[ beige bottle] makes a really good reconstrutive condit. [ you can leave a tad in her hair too]
= buy a satin pillow case @ sallys [ let child pick it out] it HELPS W/ CONTROLL AND KNOTS IN HAIR ... hair slides on silk . it pulls and gets knotted on cotton etc .
=if you need to soften her hair chemically ; I recomend Quatum hair de frizz [ in the perm section] @ Sallys

When I worked at Ulta we sold a brand called Mizani. It worked really well on african american hair. My clients loved it.

Hi,

I have bi-racial children, too, and here's what we do that works wonders. First, we brush mainly when they are in the tub. After shampooing gently and then putting massive amounts of conditioner in their hair, I brush, while the conditioner is still in their hair. After rinsing and getting them out of the tub, while their hair is still wet, I work creamy baby oil into their hair and brush it before putting into braids, ponytail, or whatever (once their hair was long enough--before that, we just let it stay out and look beautiful and wild). The creamy baby oil works wonders and gives their hair a nice shine. Many places do not sell it, but we can usually find it at Walmart. Here's a link to the product. It is not expensive. http://www.johnsonsbaby.com/product.do?id=38

Best wishes!

I would suggest using Johnson's leave in conditioner. It works great. You can buy it in a spray or cream. Once you soak the hair, it's really easier to manage.

T., i also have a daughter who is puerto rican and african american and i can totally feel where you are coming from with the hair!! i have used many different kinds of lotions and leave in conditioners and some help at the moment but later in the day there are the knots. the only thing that has helped me is that i rarely let her hair stay down, within a few hours it is a big ball of a knot at he back of her head. i try to keep her hair in pigtails, braids, and different designs that entail her hair being separated. anytime i am brushing her hair i have a spray bottle with water and a leave in conditioner at hand and i use a wide tooth comb never a brush. i have also found that if i take her twice a year for a trim that helps somewhat. i hope this helps.

Hi T.. I have bi-racial daughters as well. This has been quite challenging...the hair part of it. Moisturizing is the key as told by the beauty salon that we went to. We have been swimming alot as well. Motions hair lotion (comes in a pink bottle) worked miracles on their tangled hair the other day. I thought it was going to be horrible to get through it but I put that on their hair and it worked great. I think I got it at Walmart. Also I use Biotera ultra moisturizing conditioner from Sally's Beauty Supply. One thing I do is when they are in the shower or bath I comb out their hair while the conditioner is in it. That helps tremendously. Hope some of this works for ya!
