HELP! I'll skip the long story of how it got that way but I have a set of sheets that got pee peed on during the night, last week... I just now found them, I've washed them three times and I cant get the smell out, it is a sheet, blanket, pair of pj's and mattress pad. first I washed them with laundry detergent, then detergent and baking soda, then extreme clean and water, and I can still smell it, is there any way to get it out or are they ruined? wouldn't be a big deal but it is one of the really nice mattress pads and a favorite blanket and PJ's. thanks for your help!!!

UPDATE!!! I finally made it out of the house, I hurt my back and was out of omissions for a few days but got back to it yesterday, but I went to walmart and found Odoban and it worked great!!! couldn't find some of the other recommendations and the bleach was out of the question since they were many colors involved, thanks for all the advice, but it is finally gone!

thanks a Million!!!

What can I do next?

Bleach and vinegar - but if you've already dried them each time you've washed them, it may not work. Drying usually sets the stain/odor. Might have to try a professional cleaner.

The stuff I use is OdoBan from Sam's Club. It works awesome. My son still wets the bed and I use it all the time. It has never once failed me.

I've heard some people speak about the wonderful deodorizing ability of 1 cup white vinegar added to the wash water. Worth a try!

S.,

I had a very similar thing happen a few months ago, but it was dog vomit on my comforter. I washed, hung outside to air dry, and even Febreezed several times and I just couldn't get the smell out.

I called Evon Terrell with Dry Cleaning Concierge at ###-###-#### and she got the smell out for just a couple of bucks. Here's the best part: she picks it up from your house and then drops if off when it's done!

She's even cheaper than our dry cleaners and she does a fantastic job. She is so good, my husband doesn't even ask me about stains anymore, he just comes home and says, "Call Evon, my shirt need her!"

Totally Toddler without a doubt! I used to work for the company who made this product. It doesn't mask the odor it actually neutralizes it to remove it. You can purchase up to a gallon size at Wal-Mart. Since you've already washed a few times, I'd let it soak for a while in the Totally Toddler before washing again. Good luck.

Get some pet stuff at Pet smart and pour it on them launder it. One has the word Nature in it but I like the other one. Then use your vinegar in the rinse. I have light gray carpets almost white and can see every where my dog has peed since we got her. It works like magic. Pour it on and rub and then I used a steam cleaner to get it sucked up. Can not smell anything. It is great for my day care too. I got a new area rug in the play room and one kid decided to pee all over it. G. W

Take it to a dry cleaner. My G-maw had this comforter that she has had for 25 years and there has always been this stain on the underneath. Well, her little dog ended up peeing on the comforter in the bedroom upstairs (my G-maw has back and hip problems so she hardly ever goes up-stairs)so the pee dried on it. Same thing happened to her, she washed it in everything imaginable. Finally she made a last ditch effort and took it to the dry cleaners. Not only did it get the smell out they got the stain out that had been there for 25 years!! Take it to the Dry Cleaners!

Try Febreeze laundry additive - not sold everywhere, but I have found it in Kroger & Walmart near me. You add it with your detergent and use more for "tough" odors . . . I've had success with it. Good luck!

I know how you feel, in our case it's potty training, and I don't always have the time to wash right after an accident. Just put your smelly items in the washer on the soak cycle. I add OxyClean to the regular detergent, then I stop the washer while the clothes are soaking and let it sit overnight. Finish the cycle the next day, wash the clothes one more time on a regular cycle and you should be okay! Good luck!

Go get an enzyme based urine cleaner from pet store (like petco/petsmart). It is usually used for cat urine.... but it works--With out hurting the fabric.

I once had that smell in the back seat of my car...was about to remove back seat and smend big $$$ , tried this just as instructed on the bottle....and give it the time to work. In the case of my car, the smell got worse as that stuff was working but then gone forever....
I have also used on carpet for cat messes and it WORKS.
Good luck.

Hi,

I have been using some stuff called "Kids and Pets" that is great. Works well on carpet as well. You can get it at Walmart. I'm not sure where else you can get it. Also, try "Backout" (I think) it is at the whole food store. Both work very well.

Good luck.

air all the items out in the sun; then break the items up into smaller loads and wash with 1 full cup of vinegar, full amount of laundry detergent, and 1 cup baking soda run through extra rinse cycle and air dry. If this fails repeat, but add 1 cup of odo ban to the wash and add fabric softner during the extra rinse cycle if you dislike the smell of the odo ban (I do). I have never had this method fail and have a child who had kindney problems and rouge cat (Kept the child got rid of the cat)

I did not read the other responses but before you go and buy expensive cleaners try white vinegar in the wash. I use it all the time and it takes the smell right out and doesn't leave a vinegar smell either.

I use this trick whenever I have clothes or towels with a bad odor/mildew smell/pet urine smell. It even works if the items have already been dried! Soak the clothes in a tub of water (cold or hot - doesn't matter) and white vinegar. For a large tub of water I would use 1-2 cups of vinegar. Let it soak about an hour or two and then wash the items the way you would normally wash them.

Do a laundry load using heavy cycle, hot water and bleach. Then, if necessary, use an enzymatic cleaner found in the pet isle and follow the instructions per bottle.

Get the Oreck pet stain/odor remover! It has worked on every type of odor and stain I have encountered in over 3 years. Best stuff ever for human and pet "icky" smells and stains!!! You can order it online or go to an Oreck store. Don't know where you live but there is an Oreck store in Mesquite (Town East). Every sales person I have ever dealt with has been knowledgeable, nice and very helpful. Their glass cleaner is also top notch!

Hey, My name is C.. BKS CiCi. Divorced mother of 4 lovely girls. Wash the sheets in baking soda. Just fill the washer up with water and sheets and let soak in baking soda a while about 5-10 min or longer. Then start washer you can add detergent if you like. It works, I get clothes from the daycare in bags because of accidents and sometimes they are a week old, because I accidently left them in the car.

I would probably let them soak in some vinegar and water overnight. Maybe 1/2 cup vinegar to a gallon of water. Then, wash them again. If that doesn't work, try bleach. Enough bleach will clean anything if it doesn't ruin it. Good luck!

If you are in the DFW are I can bring you some detergent and fabric brightner that will get any stains and smell out. You would just soak the soiled items for a few hours or maybe a day and that sould take care of it. If interested just send a private email to me. Then we can make plans to get the sample product to you. I also have boys and a dog so I have been there. Have a blessed day!

I agree with the vinegar suggestion. But I would put them in the washing machine with a gallon of white vinegar and put them through a complete cycle. Then add your regular laundry stuff, detergent, etc. and put them through a complete cycle.

FYI, I put a gallon of white vinegar in my empty washer and use hot water about once every three months to clean all the soap scum out of the hoses and pipes.

Clorox is my favorite cleaner. I know a lot of people dont like it but I keep it and use it by the gallons.

If you can't clorox the sheets and other things, use the pet products from Petco or Petsmart....Nature's Miracle.
