Helpful Information for Family That Is New to the Area!!!

We are relocating to Littleton in July and have 2 children ages 11 and 13 (grades in the fall will be 6th and 8th). The school we are supposed to attend is Grant Ranch k-8 (which I have found out is actually Denver, County vs Jefferson County/Littleton Public School) so I am looking into "choicing" them into Goddard MS and I would love it if anyone could give me some feedback on the school and the whole "choice in" which is new to us!! I would also love any helpful information on pediatricians, dentists/orthodontists, family/internal medicine doctors, Catholic Churches, sports leagues (football and travel competitive soccer) and anything else you think would be helpful for a new family moving to the area. We dont know the area at all (I don't even know the major cross street to our street address which is S. Balsam) If you happen to know if that is considered a particular area I would love to know that as well because then it would help me when I am looking at maps, trying to find things, etc.
I am also trying to figure out what some of the most common banks are (like is there a particular bank that is in the grocery store/s, etc.)?
If anyone knows of speciality physicians such as a Hematologist/Oncologist, Endocrinologist, and GYN those referrals would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you in advance for all of your referrals, suggestions, and help! We are truly looking forward to making Litleton our new home =)
L.

Two words about Grant Ranch. LOVE IT! All of my kiddos (6,12, almost 14) go to there. We choiced them into the school because our neighborhood schools were not able to teach my advanced learners. They started there when the oldest started 6th grade. He is an 8th grader this year. The teachers are great, the PTO is very active, everyone in the office is great too, from the principal to the nurse in the clinic. I am amazed at how well all of the kids get along. The ECE-5th grade is downstairs and the 6-8 grade is upstairs. The upper grades have a reading buddy in the younger grades so even my girl who is in Kindergarten knows some of my her brothers friends because they see each other during the day. We go to Academy Parks Peds and I have been really impressed with everyone there. Dr. Langren and Dr. Urbaniack (SP) are great dentist/ortho. I am not sure about the churches because we have been going to Notre Dame since I was born. It is about 20 minutes from Littleton. We belong to the Southwest YMCA. Jeffco and Denver Parks and Rec are great for sports. Grant Ranch also has sports (my 6th grader is in basketball right now). There is a Jeffco competative soccer team I am not sure what the name is but I am sure once you get settled you will receive plenty of mail about what is in the area. Neighbors might be able to help too. Maybe your 6th and 8th graders will be friends with my 7th grader next year. Good luck with the move. Take care, M.

Here is a site with information on the school's test scores
http://www.zillow.com/school/CO-Denver/Denver-County-1-13...

It's Denver public school. The location is close to Jefferson County, and where there is a charter school that is K-12 called Collegiate Academy. Their official website is
http://collegiateacademy.net/

and a page rating it on "Great Schools" gives more information: http://www.greatschools.net/search/search.page?search_typ...

Colorado has an open enrollment for out of district students as long as there is room in the school.

Hi - I do not live in Grant Ranch, but near it, and know people who live there. Grant Ranch is a great community, there are two parts to it, one is Denver County, the other is Jeffco. Most people prefer the Jefferson County schools, it just depends on where in the neighborhood you live, as to where your kids go to school. I have no idea where the line is drawn, ask your realtor.

As far as soccer, two good ones, Littleton Soccer, littletonsoccer.net, and Rush Soccer (I do not know that web sight, my kids play for littleton). I am not sure about Football, but I am sure that the local rec center will have something. Rec Centers are great here, with lots of activities and clubs. I am not sure who Grant Ranch is affiliated with, again, ask your realtor.

Good Catholic church, has a great youth program, St. Francis Cabrini, www.saintfranciscabrini.org. This church is straight south of Grant Ranch, about 5 miles.

Great Dentist, Southwest Pediatric Dentist and Orthodontist, and great Pediatrician next door, Greenwood Pedatrics, both about 4 miles from the Bowles entrance of Grant Ranch. You can google both, and get the numbers.

Hope this helps. J.

We go to Focus on Kids as well.

St. Francis is a great church, as well as Light of the World.

Our dentist is Dr. Wimpee, and we really like him. He is off of Coal Mine and Pierce.

I have friends that live there and enjoy the community. I may be wrong, but I think Grant Ranch is technically Denver. Not sure what that does to you school-wise, or if it makes a difference. I can at least give you a fabulous pediatrician practice that's near there. It's called Focus on Kids and they are located a couple of miles or so straight west of where you are. There is one male and two female Dr.s and we like all of them. Their number is ###-###-####. I am in Littleton, but am east of where you are in the old part, which is a different school district and county. But I do think you'll like the area. Good luck!
