Hi Moms!

This is so embarrassing, but does anyone have any advice for hemorrhoids that would work ASAP? I am 38 weeks pregnant, and had major problems with my first son, but not until after his birth (3 hours of pushing). Yesterday I went from totally fine with no symptoms, to unable to walk or stand with some major swelling in the tushy area in about 15 minutes. I'm assuming the baby has dropped, but I don't know how I can even think about giving birth when I can't even sit on a pillow in my bed comfortably. The Dr.s' recommended suppositories, preparation H, witch hazel, and hydrocortisone, but so far, nothing has worked. Does anyone have any more natural cures? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

The Tucks pads work wonders. Cools and sooths the burn. I agree with all the advice you have gotten. Let them sit on for a while while your relaxing.

Congratulations by the way!

Sitz baths work great to relieve the pain you are having, they sell them at the local drug stores. Buy tucks pads and line a maxi pad with them and keep it on throughout the day, Change the tucks throughout also. In the hospital we have ice packs that we use for our moms, they are like maxi pads with ice in them. I'm not sure if they sell them but if not you can make one then put the tucks pads on that. It helps relieve the swelling and the pain.

I got hemorroids too with my pregnancy. I am surprised that none of those things helped. I thinks sitz(not sure of the spelling) baths work too. I would stay off your feet as much as possible and watch your salt intake. I found preparation H helped me and I would use Tucks pads(It had to be the tucks brand because the store brand were not as good at all. I would take 2 pads and leave them there on the hemorroids. I would change them several times a day. I learned that from the nurses at the hospital I delivered at. Also every time you have a bowel movement use the tuck pads too.

Hi B.,

Oh god, i know exactly what you are going through, when I gave birth, even though I only pushed for 20 minutes, afterwards I had the WORST case of Hemorrhoids which lasted for about a week and a half. I did use the cream and also the pads that had witchhazel on them but what I also did was the sits bath. they sell the seat in pharmacys or you can get one from the hospital but what it is is basically a hollow seat where you fill it with warm to hot water and them you sit in it for about 15 minutes at a time. Let me warn you its painful to sit on it and I had a hard time doing it but it helped every time i did it. Do it about twice a day. Also staying off your feet and laying down is very key. The more you walk and move the more you are aggravating them so I suggest to stay off your feet as much as possible. I foound it most comfortable to lay on my side with a pillow between my legs. So just to recap, keep using the creams and pads, do the sits bath, and try to lay down as much as possible as this helps tremendously! good luck and let us know what worked!

I had mild cases of hemorrhoids for second and third babies, so I don't know all what you are experiencing. However, watching what you eat and drink will help. Drink as much water as is comfortable, as well as juices, non-dairy (?), dairy (?). Not sure if dairy hurts or helps. With both babies, I developed internal hemorrhoids about 3-6 weeks after the birth, due to not taking care of myself. Caffeine aggravates hemorrhoids. Water will keep all your tubes hydrated and supple. Maybe talk to a nutritionist. Good luck. C. R.
