I had the surgery about 2 years ago after having what sounds like a very similar experience to yours. My hemorrhoids were pretty much in constant flare up and were extremely painful. The surgery was awful. I was pretty much useless for about 2 weeks. And don't even talk about going to the bathroom...Youch!!! After a lengthy healing process (takes about 2 months to get fully back to normal), I have had very good results. They are gone and have not come back and I am much more comfortable than I was before surgery. However, I would strongly caution you against having this surgery right after giving birth. You really will be useless for about 2 weeks. You will be in a lot of pain and on a lot of pain medication (not good if nursing). It will be very difficult to take care of baby's needs in this condition. You simply will not have the stamina to take care of your baby while recovering from this kind of surgery. My advice would be to wait until you have recovered from giving birth and your husband is on leave or a friend or family member can take care of the kids for awhile. You really don't bounce back easily from this kind of surgery.
