More common than you think! My 8 year old had his repaired a month ago. Actually pretty easy. The day of the surgery (scheduled for 8am) went smooth. We made sure we chose a surgical place that used a gas to put him to sleep before inserting the IV. I highly recommend this. I have friends that have horror stories about their children being traumatized by the IV insertion. The day of the surgery he was groggy and sore. We actually had a 2 hours drive home and we were home by 5 that night. He took it easy the next day and by the 3rd day he went to camp! Hiking and everying! He did have to skip the zipline though:)
The worst part was waiting for 2 weeks to go swimming since we went on vacation the 2nd week.
