I don't notice a difference. I use white albacore, and I prefer water-packed to oil-packed. A number of brands will show on the label that they use dolphin-safe techniques.

I also don't think the regular 5 ounce cans are much good and they barely feed one person. So I tend to look at the large cans. Otherwise I go by the sales and stock up.

i'm sorry, i'm having a hard time getting past 'new at using tuna cans.'

are you unfamiliar with tuna?

or have you just been using it in pouches?

how does anyone who isn't vegeterian make it to adulthood without meeting tuna cans?

i only use premium white albacore. it's expensive, but if i find those horribly strong-tasting dark bits, or worse, the veins, i'm done.

Brand doesn't matter (I get what's on sale) but I only like solid white albacore.
I've never made tuna cakes but if you go on pinterest or allrecipes.com you'll find tons of ideas!

I don't care about brand so much. I do like the light tuna though. I get the pouches of light tuna in water (drained) for making tuna salad for my husband, or I just eat it right out of the pouch. I use the light tuna in oil (drained) when I make my tuna casserole. I think the light has so much more flavor than the white tuna. The white seems dry and feels funny on my teeth, so I don't use it.

We tend to go with whatever is on sale .. however I do prefer if it's packed in water (over oil) and flaked over chunk. I just find it easier to break up. My kids mainly use it for lunches - to use for sandwiches although they don't like to take it to school as they find it a bit smelly, but they love it for home. The just find it easier if flaked.

I have never tried tuna cakes. Someone mentioned Allrecipes to me a while back (think it was B) and I found it was very helpful. They rate recipes as to how good/helpful they are, and so you might check that out - it's online.

** We do the white tuna too.

I like albacore tuna packed in water. Albacore is a bit more expensive but I like it's flavor which seems milder to me and smells less fishy.

Packed in water and dolphin safe; otherwise I don't care.

I like to add guacamole and instead of all or some of the mayo. I love hard boiled eggs and celery. My dad used to cut up apples. Grapes are good, too. Walnuts. My husband uses relish and mustard. I don't care for those. But he doesn't like celery, so whoever makes it gets what they like :)

I prefer the white solid albacore or albacore steaks. I usually get it in water. My family hates the one in water, and I know some people say it has a stronger smell than the tuna in oil, but I like it and feel it is healthier. I have purchased Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea in the past, and prefer Bumble Bee from those two brands (the premium, which is a black and gold can is the bomb, but quite pricey!). I currently purchase Aldi's Northern Catch brand, much cheaper than those others. As to recipes, here is one: https://www.cocoandash.com/easy-tuna-cakes/ I have never tried it, but if you Google "tuna cake recipes" you will find many, and you can then choose which one appeals to you the most either by its mix of ingredients, or its availability of the ingredients.

White albacore tuna tends to have more mercury in it than light tuna, so I stick with the light. I don't really notice a brand difference.
