When should a child move from a high chair to a booster seat? Also, do you have recommendations for a booster seat that worked well for you and your child? Thank you!

What can I do next?

My son went from high chair to bar stool.(At about 20 months) Our kitchen table is a bit elevated. My daughter is 19 months and I just bought a boster chair for her. She is really tiny and I wasn't comfortable putting her in the bar stool. And she wasn't having the high chair thing any more, she would wiggle her way out. She seems very content in the booster chair. I would wait a bit if the high chair is working and maybe skip the booster all together if possible,

My two youngest are 2 yrs apart. Everyone is different as to when they move from a high chair to a booster. I did all of mine early (btwn 9-12 mos). The Fisher Price Space Saver
high chair was my best investment. It attaches to the chair and converts from a high back high chair to a booster. Here is a link so that you can view it.

Hi C.. I don't think there is any definitive rule about making the move. Keeping a child in a high chair is awesome, since they are pretty much captive! But I moved my daughter to a booster very early -- she was about 13 months old. I was already in my third trimester with her brother, and I wanted there to be an extensive amount of time between taking her from the high chair and "giving" it to her brother (so that she would forgoe she ever sat in it.)

We purchased a booster that can be used in 5 different positions (including a set-up for an infant, a set-up with it's own tray, etc.) When my daughter turned 2, we were able to switch it into the "final" position (removing the seat back). Since your child is already 2, you can probably buy a less expensive, more simple model.

For my firstborn and for my little one now, we moved them to a chair when they did not fit in the high chair at all. When my little gets bigger, we plan to put the highchair up to the table. Whichever you decide to do, make sure you measure your chairs so that when you look at booster seats, you can be sure it will fit. Some chairs are not just straight backs, etc and the strap on the booster will not fit snuggly enough and can fail causing the child to hit the floor so to speak.
