Hi K.:
My OBGYN is absolutely the best...and he specializes in high risk pregnancies...mine was because of my age.

Good Luck,

I just moved to Allen and my doctor has told me I need to find a high risk Ob/Gyn possibly in that area that would deliver to a hospital in Allen or Plano. I don't want to have to drive downtown but I'm afraid of not having enough medical stuff at a small hospital. It will be my first child so I'm not exactly sure how to handle all of this. Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel kinda lost here. Thanks ahead of time for any help!
11/3/09 - I'm getting awesome responses! Thanks so much! From what my doc says, I might have complications with myself more than baby at this point but you never know if something else could come up. Does that make a difference?

I'd call Dr. Erin Koster (erinkostermd.com). She's a maternal-fetal health specialist, and I just saw her last week 'cuz I've been diagnosed with "advanced maternal age" (lol! as if turing 35 is a disease!). She's super nice and informative--she talked to me on the phone when I called to make my appointment to answer my questions! I don't know as she actually delivers babies, but she will refer you to one of the OB's she works with. She's located at Presby Plano (which is now called Texas Health Plano, I believe).
I see http://www.craigranchobgyn.com/ they have been wonderful! They are located in McKinney in Craig Ranch off of 121. I am not high risk so I do not have any experience in that area, but I know they advertise for high risk care. Dr. Joyner delivered my little girl at Presby Allen 3.5 years ago, she no longer does maternity but I did see all of the other doctors and loved them too.
Good luck!
I too went to Craig Ranch OBGYN. I was not high risk, but my girlfriend has a bleeding disorder and she was very happy with them. Dr. Shimer delivered my daughter.
Dr. Bruce Rajala is in Allen at Presbyterian Hospital Suite 310, and delivers at Allen Hospital. He is an awesome High Risk OB/GYN, he has delivered 3 of my boys and I am very high risk. His staff is also great. Phone# ###-###-####. He is a very busy doctor & you sometimes have to wait but he is worth the wait. Good luck!
I live in Allen, and do NOT have a baby you expect any sort of high risk situation at Allen Presby. They are not equipped for emergencies and will have to transfer baby to a different hospital.
My cousin had a baby at 36 weeks there. Mom had a c-section and baby had to be transported to Plano Presby. It was horrible, she was so sad to be away from baby, husband was transporting pumped milk every few hours etc. Baby was at one hospital and mom was at another. I have several other stories. Just don't go to Allen Presby.
I would recommend: Centennial, Baylor Dallas (both of my babies were born there), Medical City, Childrens Frisco.
I would stay away from: Plano Presby (billing issues galore!), Allen Presby (not equipped), McKinney Hospital friend's baby died there of something they should have caught)
Whatever doctor you end up with make sure that you deliver at a hospital that has a highly rated NICU. Since you are having a complicated pregnancy, you want to make sure that your baby can get the care he/she needs IMMEDIATELY if there is a problem. Allen is a great place to deliver for a normal delivery, but if you child needs extra care he may have to be transfered to a hospital with a higher level of care.
A good friend of mine who is a neonatal nurse practitioner recommended that i deliver at a hospital with the higher level of care so that I could be right there if the need arose! Hopefully, you will not have to use the NICU, but it is best to have the resources you need right on hand. When I delivered (5 years ago) Plano Med Center and Presb Plano were the best locally, but I would also look into Childrens and even Baylor Frisco if I were you.
Good luck!
I used Dr. Bruce Rajala for both my kids and both were high risk. He is AWESOME!!! You can call him anytime day or night and he personally calls you back. He helped me through some very hard times (physically & emotionally) and delivered both my boys!
Dr. Bruce Rajala at the hospital in Allen is a high risk OB/GYN. My sister is going to him and so far so good.
