Hilton Head Island Recommendation for Family Vaca

Hi-
We're considering a family trip to Hilton Head for spring break, including little kids all the way up to grandparents. I've been there as a teen ager, but cannot remember staying anywhere else than Sea Pines. I'm wondering if anyone has been there lately and could recommend which plantation they liked best, and or where they stayed. We have had good luck with "vacation rentals by owner" to find a god size place to rent for the week that will house an extended family. Thank you! A.

I have been numerous times on 3-generation, multi-family trips. We have always stayed at the same house in Palmetto Dunes and have loved it. I don't know what rental agency we used.

Hi A.,

We did this summer 2008 - my husband's parents, their three children, spouses and their children (8 adults, 4 children between the ages of 6 months and 4). We rented a house that was 2nd row in Sea Pines that accomodated all of us.

I loved Hilton Head (it was my first trip) and would use the rental agency again - http://www.destinationvacationhhi.com/ The house itself was awesome!

What was hell, was all being in one house and having such different schedules. The 4 year old was used to being up super late (11pm ish and sleeping in until 10am or so). My son was 2.5 yrs old and used to getting up at 6am and being asleep by 8pm. My nieces (third family) were closer to our schedule but kept to a very strict nap schedule. It was impossible to keep the house quiet all the time and yet someone was always sleeping.

I wish we had agreed upon a condo location and each family rented their own condo!! That way schedules could be dealt with by individual families and we wouldn't have had to all be together all the time.

We will NEVER do another trip like that again! If you need any ideas for rental companies for bikes or baby equipment, feel free to email me direct.

Good luck! C.

We've gone every other year for a while and always rent a house at Sea Pines - for three generations and "kids" from 3 to 21. Have rented houses from Resort Quest, Sea Pines Rental - think my in-laws were looking at dentinationvacationhhi.com for next year. We've done both by the ocean and inland - fun either way!
