Sounds like Sciatica. I'm going through it right now and it is HORRIBLE!!! I have terrible leg and foot pains along with numbness. I've had it (this time) for about a month. I'm going to try & find a cheap chiropracter. Good Luck.

I hope someone has some advice for me. I've been having hip pain on and off for a few months now. There are times when laying in bed that I go to roll over or get out of bed and I can't move because it hurts so bad. Occasionally I'll be walking and I'll have the pain. Over the past two days it's gotten worse. As of right now, it hurts with every step.
The pain starts in my hip and moves toward my pubic bone. Where my crotch meets my leg is where it's really bad. The best way I can describe it is to say it feels as though it needs to pop or like something is out of place.
I'm hoping to get into an urgent care clinic today, but hubby works third shift and he's sleeping right now. I can wake him if it's an emergency, but honestly, I'm hoping to wait until Monday and get into my physician.
Has anyone had this before? What was it? Please tell me it wasn't a broke hip. My sister's wedding is in about 6 weeks and I'm a bridesmaid...the last thing I want (aside from being the oldest fattest bridesmaid) is to be the only one on crutches, or worse, have a broken hip and not be able to be in the wedding.
So I ended up going to the chiropractor. 30 seconds later, pop and the pain was gone! My hips were out of alignment and something about a tendon in my hip moved and was causing more pain.

Sounds like you have sciatica. Good luck because this is one of the worst things! I've had it since i was 19 (car accident) and a chiropractor is the only thing that helped me. They wanted to put me on narcotic pain meds to manage the pain (which was the only effective pain relief) but I chose to try natural methods first. It was getting better then I got pregnant, my hips moving around due to carrying a baby made it completely go away! They also determined that I had functional short leg (where your muscles attached to your pubic bone tilt your pelvis and in turn makes one leg shorter). They said this is a common thing causing the pain.. now if i ever have issues I just lay on a bed and have my husband grab my ankle firmly and jerk my leg straight towards my toes, it realigns my hip and makes the pain go away (learned that from the chiropractor). I have tendonitis in both knees, and when it acts up it is very painful and feels like it needs to pop or crack to feel better. I also have tendonitis in both wrists and it is a similar feeling. So my thoughts are it's probably a tendon or ligament that is messed up. If you are in severe pain, definitely go to an urgent care center, but if you can hold off to see your regular doctor, it may be better then you don't have to wait forever.
Alternating ice and heat can help as well as taking an anti-inflammatory. Rest it as much as you can!

I actually have had a few moments where I have had that feeling for a few minutes. What I experience (don't know if this is the same with you or not) is that it just feels "odd" until I put weight on it... then, depending on exactly how I am standing, it hurts and feels extremely WEAK. Like I might fall.
It has rarely happened any time other than early in the morning when I've recently gotten up, and is most noticeable when I then have gotten into the shower and leaned over to shave my legs.
Again, it has only happened a very few times (probably less than 6 times in the last several YEARS), and ALL after having kids. Never before I had kids. So I'm assuming it is some sort of alignment issue where I slept on it wrong and something got out of whack. It is usually gone within an hour of noticing it, or less.
I never have shooting or sharp pain though.. and never if I am sitting or not putting weight on it.
After my kids were born my hips hurt quite a bit off and on. The Sleep Number Bed made a difference for me.
That said...... I'm no doctor, but it doesn't sound like it would hurt you to wait a bit. See if you can get comfortable, properly align your body, take advil as a pain killer and anti-inflammatory and see if you feel better. You can go to doc later today too. Right now you are stressed. You might want to call your physician. Whoever is on call can call you back and advise you. This way you may be able to avoid that visit to the doc today and feel more comfortable about waiting until Monday.
You will be a beautiful bridesmaid. Forget about your weight and your age! Your sister chose you because she loves you. Just feel yourself enveloped in that Love!
major big hugs! sorry your having such pain. it could be stress. or anything. we honestly cant tell you your going to have to get a pro to check it out. but i did want to say for about six months after having my kids my hip one side or the other would hurt. i think its things going back into place and re adjusting.

I am an OT and work with people who have had hip fractures and replacements.
First, it does NOT sound like an emergency. Make a regular appointment with your primary care doc.
I could not diagnose you, but there are plenty of things it *could* be, most of them pretty harmless.
As a suggestion, in the time between now any your MD appt, stop all high-impact activities and avoid heavy-lifting if at all possible, and do a series of gentle stretching activities twice a day: am and pm. Gentle strengthening activities are still okay, but don't over-do.
Also, try sleeping with a roll under your knees when you sleep on your back.
If you notice a difference with these changes, you may have some valuable information to share with your doc so he/she can accurately diagnose what is going on.

You sound like my husband. Its not sciatica. He had to have hip decompression surgery. Its not hip replacement. They go in and carve out the "old" hip and fill it in with concrete.
Do you ever feel as if your leg "gives out" while walking? Kind of like you simply cant put weight on it?
In MY opinion, sciatic nerve problems are in the "butt" so to speak. Your hip IS your hip.
Two friends of mine have had hip pain issues just in recent months. Neither had sciatica but both had muscle issues for which doctors gave them cortisone shots. Be sure to get to the doctor soon -- you've waited a few months, please do not wait any longer or this could lead to something permanent and less treatable.
It is not an emergency, I don't think. Take a couple Aleve and place cold packs on your hip to reduce the inflammation.
If you didn't have a sudden fall, you probably didn't break your hip. You could have functional short leg issues on one side. My son had that for a couple months---it was very painful for him! He saw a chiropractor about 4 times and had exercises to do. It really helped.
