P.K.
It sounds like he is fine. Just check on him during the night. It sounds like
he scared himself more than being hurt. Try to relax.
Today my 5.5 month old son fell off the couch which is low to the floor. He has never gotten hurt before and this has freaked me out. HE just cried for about 3 mins and then he seemed fine. No bumps or bruises. He played the rest of the day had a bath and ate a bottle before bed. Then he woke up crying his eyes out about 3 hrs after in put him to bed. I fed him a bottle and he went back to sleep. He seems fine to me but i do not know what i should be watching for. If any one has had a similar accident please help me out i am a first time mom and i am worried to death. Any help or advice would be great.
Thanks from
one mom to another

I suggest that nearly every baby falls off the couch at some time. It is highly unlikely that he's hurt. Waking up crying could be just coincidental to the fall. Or, it's possible that he has a bit of a headache, tho highly unlikely that it's serious.
Watch for pupils of uneven size, constant crying and fussiness. Also, if it's difficult to wake him up.
Try to relax. Your baby is OK.
the biggest thing to watch out for is the dilated pupils and if he vomited after falling. Also, if he is hard to wake up.
The fact that he cried after it happened is a GREAT thing...crying is a good sign that he is fine as well. Probably more scared then anything. It is much more worrisome if they fall and do not cry right away.
and, don't worry too much, it pretty much happens to everyone no matter how watchful and careful you are!
When my DD was 2 months old my older daughter dropped her from about 3 feet up! I was so freaked out! But, after a few minutes of crying, she was fine. She's 3 now and I can't tell you how many other falls we've had... If your son seemed overly tired or irritable or hard to wake up, I'd worry, but he really seems like he's just fine!
I'm sure you know by now... :) The first freaked me out, of any fall for either of my kids:) But, the swelling and bruising is "better out than in" so look for that and any wincing or crying when you push around the spot hit. Checking uneven pupils, nonstop crying, any body part not working normally... and you can always call CHOA at ###-###-#### with this or any "emergency" -- got that one on speed dial with Poison Control:)
I'm sure he's fine. This has happened to all of us and you are so so paranoid afterwards that you pay too much attention and think things are different even when they arent.
You didnt say how he landed or if it was carpet he landed on but you did say it was low so I'm assuming maybe a two foot drop. If all of his limbs are moving fine and he can hold his head up I'm sure it's nothing but a lesson learned about leaving him on the couch alone from now on.
Take your child to the doctor. Just go in to have him checked out.
