I have a 13 year old that breaks out in hives. Not sure if it's the heat or food or both. But I'm looking for home remedies to calm them done and sooth his skin.

About a 1 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar in a bath always works well for my son and his rashes. I bet it would work for you too......

About four days ago, my daughter got diagnosed with polymorphous light eruption because she breaks out in hives when out in the sun. Cortezone cream is the best for this type of skin disorder.

My mother suffers from heatherticaria (sp?) and I suffer from the cold version.
There is special sunscreen you can get your son if this is what it turns out to be. Take him to a dermatologist to have them look at it.

Otherwise I would suggest, Eucerne Calming/cooling lotion. It is very helpful with hives. My son just broke out in them and it took 3 weeks for them to go away, but this lotion helped.

good luck

Hives are an indication of allergy and can get out of control especially if exposed to the same trigger..Should be seen by an allergist preferably while the hives are present. It can be something in the environment as well as things taken internally. The biggest worry with hives is if they occur internally..

I get hives and didn't start until I was in my 40s, but they have been scary since and I take three medications daily to avoid them and other allergic reactions. sorry to be alarmist, but before you try the home remedies, you should discover the cause, just to be sure.

Hi,
the hives are an allergic reaction to something. Foods, detergents, soaps, grasses etc. My kids get them from amoxicillian and my husband gets them from a certain weed that is in the grass. I give them all bendryl when they get them, if they aren't taken care of, you can get them in the throat and close off the air way. Please figure out what the hives are from. ALso, my daughter gets them from wearing new clothes without washing them, there is a chemical companies use on the new clothing.

Taking a cool bath with some tea tree oil in the water would help. Check out my website for information on getting safer products at wholesale prices. www.SwitchingStores.info

Hi N.,

During my last 2 months of pregnancy. I broke out with hormonal hives. I was dying. Nothing my OB or internalist can do. I just had to wait until the baby came. It was so itchy, I couldn't sleep at night.

Anyhow, my girlfriend recommended Emu oil and it worked. Google it. I ordered the product from a local vendor in the Napa Valley. It pure. No chemical added that can irritate us. Try it. I hope it helps.

Good luck!!

My daugther has gotten hives twice (she is 8) and at that time I did not know what caused them. Recently she got them again. We bought her a new quilt and did not wash it - I believe the chemicals affected her because when we took the quilt away she was fine. Just to be sure we had her sleep with the quilt one more night and sure enough they came on again. She is now sleeping with her old quilt until I can get to the laundry mat to find a washer big enough to fit it. In speeking with other parents, their kids have gotten hives from produce and now they can only eat organic produce. I would find out what it causing them and try to avoid that in the future. When she has them I put anti itch cream on and just wait for them to go away. Good luck.

When I get hives, I take an antihistamine. It reduces the swelling that causes the itching.

Try Aloe. My boy got a few mosquito bites & they swelled up a lot. I put on standard green aloe gel from the drugstore & it's helping. Also a long time favorite is Arnica. I recommend actually a product called Traumeel. It has Arnica & some other herbal ingredients that work even better than Arnica alone. It is great for bruises, bites & rashes, sore muscles, & joint pain. The only contraindication is for cuts or broken skin. I researched why, & it's because Arnica impedes blood clotting. No actual harm comes from getting it into opened skin. I would just rinse it off of a cut if it was causing problems.

HI
I've gotten hives on numerous occasions.. YES, heat makes them worse hence the reason your daughter may itch a lot at night.. being in the WARM covers and ignite the itching... IF you don't already, try ALL COTTON sheets, this way, the fabric breathes and lets out some heat, in addtion avoid hot/warm baths and showers, keep it as tepid as possible.USE limited amount of soap on the body and if you do use, wash off ASAP. Also, yes diff foods can bring on hives.. I've heard the eggwhite (and not yolk) as some suspect... drinks lots of water to help the liver and kidneys cleanse the blood, (this way, the body more readily eliminates waste from her system) and it can't linger and cause further possible allergic reactions...
Aloe vera is great, but PURE aloe.. you can find at a health food store..once open, store in the fridge.. then when you apply it, it feels cool.......
lastly, kids benedryl does help somewhat, but you don't want to live on that stuff.... so u may eventually want to see a doc.... oh and hives can run in cycles.. meaning they can last from a week to months.... then not come back for a long time.. stress can trigger hives as can packaged /processed/food preservatives and food colorings.... other things like pickled or cured foods can for some also trigger an outbreak.. basically, you may need to remove things from her diet and then re-introduce slowly.....
best of luck to you

hi there! i would say beforeyou use home remedies and things to calm down the hives, that you should consult a pediatrician or allergy specialist to find out what is causing the hives. sometimes reactions like this can lead to breathing difficulties or worse. good luck to you and your child. (have you tried benadryl?) V.
