The first time this happened they put her on a Iv checked blood and said it was only a allergic reaction to food meds or soap. They gave her benedryl and she was good. Now it happened again so i gave her childrens benedrly and applied the cream. She is so Itchy Any ideas to make her more comfy. Ive heard frozen Mango helps????

I get hives myself from time to time. Oatmeal baths and aloe work, but I found ice to work as a great quick fix! It doesn't get rid of the hives, but it takes the itch out temporarily and gives a little relief. If her skin is senstive, I recommend using laundry detergents and stuff without perfumes and dyes. The only soap/body wash I can use with a little fragrance is Dove.

Hope this helps!

If your pediatrician thinks that the hives are an allergic reaction, then I think that you should take her to a pediatric allergist if you are having trouble narrowing down the possible item causing the hives. The pediatric allergist will test her for various allergies. Benadryl makes a gel to help with the itch.

anything cold seems to help itching. Think back to what she has done in the last 24 hours, eaten, touched whatever you can think of. If its something she eats on a regular basis, rule it out, focus on the newly introduced foods. Process of elimination. Also consider your laundry detergent, was she sweating? are they heat welts? think of all options. Good Luck!

my daughter at 7 was sick with a 106 fever.. yes very high.. well right after that she started getting hives.. i first thought it was tylenol.. cause when i gave it to her.. she broke out. she also swelled up.. like her lips and eye lids.. scarey... i rushed her to the hospital because it was bad.. they gave her a shot.. told me not to give her tylenol again.. a week or two later it happened again.. this time she ate grapefruit.. was she allergic to citrus fruit too?? i got her a shot again.. and the next time.. she woke in the middle of the night.. with the hives so bad.. again off to the hospital for another shot.. and cortizone pills.. my doctor told me not to worry that it probably would just go away.. but i was concerned.. so i brought her to an allergist.. got her checked out.. tested for allergies of all sorts... and she wasn't allergic to anything.. they told me the virus just knocked her system off.. and for about 2 years she would be off... well the hives actually stopped about 8 months later... and she never got them again... benedryl given at the first sign of them helped.. also oatmeal bath... works well... good luck.. if they continue.. get her checked out for your peace of mind.. and to see what they come up with..

My oldest daughter, now 8, had many food allergies as a toddler, sometimes it would show as a rash around her mouth or runny poop then causing a tooshie rash but like your daughter she once too had a rash all over her, it looked like hives, it took me forever to figure out what the allergy was from, especially since I made all of her food fresh. In the end it ended up being raw tomato beleive it or not. I have a deck garden every year and being Sicilian/Italian tomato is a staple, she would help me garden and then eat some cherry tomatos. Apparently the acid in it was too much for her little body and thus broke out. As an 8yr old she seems to be fine with it, alot of times they out grow these things too. Sometimes it's an allergy to preservatives if it's store bought food, she at one time had an allergic reaction to grape juice but not grapes, cow milk but not yogurt, canned or pre packaged fruit but not fresh. I've also seen children have an adverse reaction to red dyes in juice or jello or to the horrimones is chicken, whole milk or even soy products. She was even once allergic to sweet potato, weird right? Who knows why,it'll just take some det. work. As for soothing her itchies, my big girl also suffers from excema(very dry itchy skin) and what helps her is...soaps without dyes or perfumes and moisturizing saops such as olive oil soap or oatmeal bars, also most supermarkets or drug stores will have a collodial oatmeal bath. After baths pat her dry instead of rub and put a dye/perfume free lotion on her, many recomend Eucerin in the tub form because it's thicker, some love Weleda products or anything with, aloe, vit E,shea or cocoa butter, oatmeal or olive oil in it. I put some on her every night especially in the fall/winter season. Is it possible that she has excema? If not these things will help for any itchies no matter the cause, even chicken pox. Hope this helps, hang in there. J.

My daughter is 5 years old and when she was 8 months old she awoke in the am with hives all over her body and she looked swollen. I immediately took her to the doctor at which time they told me that it was viral....the hives would dissappear and she would clear up as quick as they would come. On the way to the doctor sometimes they would go away and I thought that the doctors where going to think I was the crazy one. Well, I tried all the fruits again thinking it was an allergic reaction. Well, after a few visits to the allergist and the doctor I really started tracking when she would get them and it always seem to be when she was getting a cold, sinus infection or something of the sort. It was how her body fought off an infection or virus. It was the strangest thing but they were right all along and it was viral. She no longer gets them as they did tell me that she would out grow it. She never had the hives and the fever it was always one or the other.....she used to look so miserable and itch so bad. Benadryl is what I used to give her as well.

I hope this helps, really track when she gets them and see if she gets a cold or any illness after getting them even if it is a couple of days later....keep track.

Regards,
Vickie

Hi V.,
Try vitamin C. Do increments of about 500 to about 2000. The worst that can happen is loose stool. (The body throws off, through the urinary tract, what it doesn't use.)If that happens, back up to when it didn't. Each system is different. Ascorbic acid is as good as rose hips; the cheaper, the higher potentcy, the better.

Sincerely,
F.

I suffered from hives for about 2 years (from Lyme disease) and oatmeal baths and lotions were soothing. Be careful of overmedicating her with Benadryl. If you give her Benadryl orally you cannot apply Benadryl cream. I also found aloe (they sell it in the sunscreen aisle) to help.
