I had hives a lot as a kid. They can last a week or two. Benedryl liquid is about the only thing that works. Watch her carefully especially since they are so prominant on her face. If she gets the min her throat it's called anaphylactic shock, her throat could complete close up preventing breathing.

It's normal for hives to stick around for 3-5 days or so after an initial breakout. You should know, though, that peaches are also a high-risk allergen food in addition to berries that are seedy (like strawberries and blackberries).

You should be able to keep treating her with the Benedryl per the doctor's instructions. If the hives get worse rather than better, take her back to the ER.

yes it's normal for them to come back. for a few days actually. keep giving her the benedryl when they appear. they will also pop out at bathtime as hot water makes them appear worse.

I would also call your pediatrician. Especially if they are around her mouth and nose. They may want you to have additional medicines since her airways may be at risk for swelling.

Consider animals as the cause too. My daughter was allergic to dog licks as a baby not really the dander or fur. One lick and hives were all over that area. All of our family members had dogs at their house and she was okay as long as didn't get licked. That worked until she could chase them down. She was in love with animals right away, and had hives every time from all breeds, fur or hair. She finally outgrew it around two years old, and is still the biggest animal lover ever.

It IS normal, but it means that her reaction to the berries (or whatever allergen she ingested) was quite severe. You need to give her more Benadryl for these additional hives/symptoms, but since she is so young you'll probably have to call her doctor and find out the correct dosage and how often she can have it.

For the next week or so, ONLY give her foods that she has safely had before. You may want to ask about getting an allergy test or food challenge done since the reaction was fairly severe, but again, she's really young.

Whatever you do, DON'T give her the berries again "just to see for yourself" at home. Each and every time she has a reaction (even if this was the first one) her body builds MORE antibodies that will fight off that food as though it is an infection. That means the next time she ingests that food, the reaction will be worse, and it will be FASTER. On such a tiny system, that is very dangerous.

Best of luck to you and definitely ask more questions and get a plan of action.

If they came back, it may not have been the food. Think about anything she may have come in contact with, including soaps, fabric softeners, etc.

Well, my Mom is allergic to Oatmeal, and anything with oats in it.
She gets a rash from it. But I don't know if that is what is wrong with your baby.

Call the Doctor, and tell him/her that the Hives are still present.
Take a photo of it to show the Doc.
Hives, can come and go.
Take baby back to the Doctor.
Usually, if you take a baby/child to the ER, the primary Physician (your Pediatrician) will also be told, then they may call you and ask how your baby is doing or tell you to come into the office to do a follow-up check. That is what has always been with case with my kids, if they go to the ER.
Or, you just take your baby to your Pediatrician, and do a follow-up check. Just take your baby back to the Doctor to get a proper diagnosis.

For a baby that young, they gave your baby Steroids?
Usually, that is for extreme cases.

Steroids suppress the immune system, causing the hives to go away but once the immune system activates again, the hives come back. My sons pediatrician wouldn't prescribe steroids, for that reason. Benadryl wasn't working for his hives & he was prescribed a stronger antihistamine & that finally wiped them out. You may need to call doc & ask about different treatment.

I had hives that we're treated with a steroid. I was ok for a day and a half and they came back forcing a second round of steroid much stronger than the first. Try some more Benadryl but if her tongue swells get help quickly.
I did not have a reexposure to the allergen...
