Should I be getting a holiday gift for my son's daycare provider? If so, I'm looking for suggestions of what to get. I'm thinking about a gift card but I'm not sure what amount is appropriate to spend. My son goes 3 days a week to a licensed in-home day care center. He is 6 months old and he started going there in October 2008.

A Card That Pops Open W/Music And Jokes That She Can Display For The Kids To Enjoy As Well, Will Be Different And Creative. I'm Sure She'll Enjoy The Good Sense Of Humor.

I am going to give my day care provider (in home) one week's tuition. Since your child just started there, maybe a gift certificate out to eat? My son started in February 2008.
I am a daycare provider and I don't expect anyone to bring me a gift. Especially someone who just started a couple months ago. A holiday greeting more than card is welcome as I display them and and the kids like to "read" them every day!
If you had to buy gift cards for every teacher, mailcarrier, newspaper delivery person, boss, co-worker and fair weather friend, you would be spending hundreds of dollars that could have been spent on making your familys' holiday memorable.
Take my advice buy gifts only for your loved ones. Especially if money is tight.
Because I value my daycare provider (a private home) so much, I give her two weeks pay in cash. This is only because I get a good xmas bonus from work and am able to do so and because my daughter goes full time. I realize it's overly generous but I love the job she does with my daughter and my daughter ADORES her and her little boy and she's VERY well cared for & loved there. She also feeds them breakfast, lunch and two snacks a day at no extra cost to us. She doesn't charge a lot and I figure it's the least I can do since I feel she's got the most important job in the world - caring for my baby! This is in no way to say you should feel obligated to do this too - I'm just so grateful for the good care, I'm very generous with what I give her. I don't give anyone else anything close to that, believe me. And this sounds horrible, but when she goes on vacation and I stay home with the baby myself, I see what her days are like and everything she does for us, so I feel even more like making it worth her while! They don't have easy jobs at all. Give what you're grateful for, or what your financially able to or comfortable with. Also, I give my sitter a nice bathset too, to pamper herself with. You could just get her a nice bathset or some candles or something too. Anything that says you acknowledge her hard work and want to pamper her or give back in some way is good. Especially since your child's a part-timer & hasn't been with her long.
Hi - my children both use to go to a in home day care. I use to give this as a gift and occasionally do for other people still. I go to Blockbuster and buy a tub of their popcorn, and a 5/10/15 gift card (whatever you can afford but enough to cover atleast 1 rental) then go to the dollar store or Walmart and stock up on some standard candies (m&m's, twizzlers, etc), I add in enough soda for the number of people in her family (I usually try and get the classic glass bottles of Coke or Crush - just cause they are cute and different + fit easier). I organize the bucket with all the items and anyone I've ever given this to has loved it! It's practical, not too expensive for you and provides them with some extra family time.
