Martha stewart's "homekeeping" is great! Covers everything you need in regards to caring for the house. Doesn't cover cooking though. For basics, I like mark bittman's "how to cook everything" and the recipes at foodtv.com and epicurious.com
Hi there - does anyone have a suggestion for a basic home economics guide? Something that includes basic cooking, basic sewing, basic cleaning, basic budgeting ... what you learned in 7th grade Home Ec, but didn't retain. Thanks!
Thanks, everyone - I am going to check some of these out!

Martha Stewart's website has a bunch of great tips and checklists. When I feel inadequate, I can always look to her site for help. But then I really feel inadequate.... lol
My daughter googled it and came up with Home Ec 101 online.
She took Home Ec in 7th grade and loved it. Also, if you have children in school, ask the current Home Ec teacher where some good resources are. The teacher should know!
I like the book "Dining on a Dime" by Tawra Kellam and Jill Cooper. It is way more than a cookbook. It is way worth it. She also has a web site. This book alone has helped our family alot. Deal seeking mom is a website I like too. IT matches up sales ads to coupons and tells you where and when to get the best deals, and way more.
Hope that helps
Have you tried a used book store that carries old text books. I remember our text books were actually pretty good.
