Homeopathic Allergy Medicine

A friend has suggested that I try "Heel BHI Homeopathic Allergy Medication" for my 2 year old daughter. Her pediatrician recommended Zyrtec for her a couple months ago and with the recent recall, she's now taking Claritin. These medicines help her greatly - her allergies are not severe, but her little nose runs so terribly without the medicine. I would rather use a homeopathic remedy if it works AND is safe, but I don't know anything about this medicine. Has anyone heard of it or used it? Thank you.

What can I do next?

Hi D.,

My girlfriend told me about a product she uses for her son, he was 2 then (3 now), they live in Texas and has a lot of allergy issues. It's made by the same company who makes Little Tummies, the gas drops. I think it's called Little Allergies, it's a gel that goes outside and around the nose, and prevents the pollen etc from entering the nose.

I've used the Little Tummies for years, it's a product I add to my "new mommy" basket, so I'm sure Little Allergies works just as well.

I hope this helps.

Get the homeopathic stuff and google the ingredients. Call a pharmacist or the doc and ask if you have any questions. Don't ask their opinion, just ask if it is safe. Many doctors are anti-natural, but they don't really know about it. What they do know is what is safe. I think it is likely to be safe, and if it works how great!

I can't tolerate most meds, so I have experimented with alternative meds. I get fabulous, and almost instant, relief from allergy symptoms with a homeopathic remedy, with no side effects. About 4 out of 5 people respond positively to homeopathy, and the rest simply don't respond. The only likely reaction is in those allergic to milk, because the pellets are made with a milk-sugar base.

Many doctors object to homeopathy, and some will argue that some remedies are based upon poisonous plants. True, but there may be one molecule, if even that, in the actual remedy. (many modern medicines are also made from highly toxic natural substances.) The process of making the remedies titrates the original substance away, but leaves behind only an energy signature that the body can still recognize and respond to. I have yet to see a scientific explanation of how this can be, but modern molecular science is getting closer.

I've known quite a few children who respond very well to this approach for all sorts of physical and emotional problems. It is very popular in Europe. The over-the-counter remedies are safe and have no side effects. (Or if they do, the websites will make you aware of what those effects might be. They are usually called "mentals" because they are usually mood changes.)

The one I use is called Histaminum hydrochloricum, but there are a few others that can be safely used with children. The trick, and this may take a little experimentation, is to find the one that is best matched to the particular person's symptoms.

Google "homeopathy for children" to get quite a few sites that can guide you through the process.

HI D.,

Homeopathic remedies are not approved by the FDA because they are out of the range of their authority. There are good companies out there that self monitor that have standards much higher than the pharmaceutical companies. There are more pharmaceuticals recalled than there are natural or homeopathic remedies. The FDA also approves toxins every year to be put in our homes and poison us. If you want to know more about that, I'm an open book!

I don't know anything about the specific remedy your friend mentioned but Elderberry extract is simply food. It is wonderful for allergies in a little one. You can get it in liquid form and it tastes great. (I always told my kids it was what Mary Poppins gave Jane and Michael) Echinacea is good too but in order for it to be effective you must remove all sugars (even simple carbs) from her diet. As she gets older, local honey will help with seasonal allergies too.

Hope this helps.

I once spoke with the pharmacist about the homeopathic allergy and decongestant meds and he said he would not recommedned them because unlike Zyrtec and Claritin, these medications are NOT approved by the FDA. I read the ingredients and I didn't recognize one of them. (and I'm a nurse!) So personally, I would stick with the FDA approved meds, because you really have no idea what the side effects of the other one will be. Good luck!

There is an OTC allergy medication called Counter Act Allergy that is comparable to Claritin, but made with natural products and it’s only half the cost of Claritin. There is no prescription needed and insurance doesn’t even get involved with OTC meds.
