My husband and I are really big horror movie fanatics. We have seen almost everything the horror genere has to offer. We have picked through all the low budget horror movies our local video store had, seen the new stuff in theaters, and of course seen the classics. So I was wondering if any of you seen a horror movie that was really good that you would like to suggest that I may have missed, I always enjoy finding little gems :) Thanks!

I dont care for Rob Zombie after he remade Halloween, I do like remakes but not when you change the reason Michael was so scary, he had no emotions and was pure evil, no need for a backstory. I havent seen the old house of wax, I didnt know that was a remake so I will check that out because I have seen the remake, I have seen both old and remake of the last house on the left and texas chainsaw massacre. Im not big into zombies but I did watch the evil dead the other day because I saw a trailer for the remake which looked really good. There are so many from the 50's and 60's worth watching. And the older Stephen King movies are good too.

I lean more toward the comedy-horror stuff like Dale and Tucker vs. Evil or Teeth. You've probably already seen them, but if you missed them, check them out they are fun ones.
i know you said your not a fan of rob zombie so im assuming youve seen House of 1000 Corpses or my favorite The Devils Rejects ??.. i think those are great movies.. havent seen his remake of halloween though
I'm more of an old-school horror fan, so the Hammer films are right up my alley. I'm sure you've explored the Hitchcock suspense stuff--- but have you seen Peter Lorre in "The Hands of Orlac"? Super creepy, seething and obsessed, Peter Lorre is in love with a woman who resembles a wax statue. Her beloved, however, is a musician who's had a horrible accident which destoys his hands, so he's given new ones--the hands of Orlac, a murderer. I've elected that for our next Halloween movie.
Also, "Picnic at Hanging Rock" is one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. Peter Weir's movie is by far one of the most far out "what is the THING?!" movies I've come across. (Add in the strangely hollow sound of Zamfir's pan flutes, which was the soundtrack Weir chose for his bizarre and sinister tale..... very strange.)
oh, and reading your SWP: even if you aren't a zombie fan, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's "Shawn of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" are wonderful.
My brother told me about a thriller call "Frailty." Not a catchy title, but it was a great movie with Matthew McConaughy in it. The twist and turns were unbelievable and the story centered around this father who was a serial killer and got his kids involved. I too am a horror/thriller move enthusiast. The first "SAW" movie was really good too.
we only went through a mini horror-movie phrase, once i became a mom i couldn't handle them lol.
HOWEVER - one that we discovered then and i still like it to this day is Thirteen Ghosts. you've probably seen it, but most people haven't heard of it. it's a really good mix of horror/scary and interesting, i think. and it's got tony shalhoub, shannon elizabeth, and matthew lillard in it. so if you're interested in the genre it might not be new to you...
Rob Zombies movies are great! His new one lords of Salem is set to release this year! I can't wait!
Added: rob zombie never intended on remaking Halloween, it was always ment to be more of a prequel to the origninal.
Okay...if you can find it...I actually own it on VHS..."Cutting Class". Totally really bad like lower than B horror....BUT it has Brad Pitt in it....a very very young and still good looking Brad Pitt...
The movie end in the high school shop class....priceless!!!
We rented one from the library that I really liked last week called "Orphan." It was pretty twisted.

I just watched a thriller called "Identity" that at first seemed like it would be one of those "done a million times" plots, but it had some big names...turned out to be an awesome movie.
I find Netflix streaming to be full of good horror movies, honestly.
And you can always go back to the classics...King. :)

I grew up watching "Creature Feature" on television on weekends.
My mom let me make a bed in the living room and I'd watch the movies myself or my dad would make popcorn and watch with me.
That said, these new horror movies are not for me! Just some of the trailers give me an anxiety attack.
I like the older films. House of Wax, The Man With the X-Ray Eyes 1963, the 1972 movie Crawlspace (not the newer one). The Brain That Wouldn't Die 1962, The Mole People 1956.
These movies seem a bit cheesy by modern standards, but they are entertaining if you're into that sort of thing like I am.
If you want a laugh, check out Flash Gordon. I've seen about every one of those.

P.S. Real Men with James Belushi and John Ritter from 1987. Not scary, but sci-fi funny.
Their is one with Naomi Watts( not the Ring)..but it is another psychological thriller- Dream House. I go for the Psychological thriller types like Session 9, Gothika, and The Dark ( Maria Bello).
