Horse-themed Snack Ideas

Hi ladies! My daughter and I are in charge of planning a horseback riding outing with a group we're involved in and along with that, we also have to provide a snack. The group will consist of moms and their 9-10 year old daughters. I was hoping to come up with a horse-themed snack and thought I'd turn to you guys for ideas. I thought of apple slices and baby carrots, along with oatmeal cookies, since those are all based on horse-type foods. I even thought of trying to incorporate shredded wheat because they look like hay bales, but I don't know what exactly I would do with them! My daughter is fine with fruits and veggies, but not a big oatmeal fan, so she wants cupcakes... Any idea of how to decorate a cupcake with a horse theme? Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies, for the suggestions! We ended up doing cupcakes with green sugar crystals for grass (I wanted to just tint the frosting, but DD wanted the sugar crystals), and then added a waffle pretzel on-end for a fence, one mini shredded wheat (for hay) and a plastic horse. We served them with carrots that still had part of the tops, apple juice and water (and told the girls they couldn't have a cupcake til they'd had a carrot!). It was a hit! Everybody just loved them and the moms claimed that the "snack gauntlet" had been thrown! The mom in charge of the next activity is feeling some (good-natured) pressure now! Thanks again for the suggestions. We appreciate it!

We did cupcakes for my daughter's cowgirl birthday, used green frosting for grass (vanilla with food coloring), a mini wheat for hay bale, used the square pretzels like a fence/jump, and got little plastic horses at a party store or online at oriental trading. They were so cute!

You could draw a house on the cakes, or just the shoes. For hay bales you could make no bake chocolate cookies, but replace the oats with crunchy chow mein noodles. They look like sticks(not exactly hay), but my boys love them.

One idea, with or without the Shredded Wheat, would be a trail mix assortment (Chex Mix works well too). You could get My Little Pony fruit snack. You could also use the fruit snacks to put on the cupcakes. Oriental Trading Company has lots of party themed (including horse/cowgirl/western themed) things and may have cupcake decorations that would work too.

mini cupcakes with toasted coconut? Looks a little like hay. Sheet cake with a barn design, with plastic horses (one for each girl as a souvenir? Bandana with the treats inside...not sure if you are looking to spend money on a present like that.

I have a friend who arranged cupcakes on a board in the shape of a horse and added a fence around the board.
Good luck,
J.

How about drawing a horseshoe on top of the cupcakes with icing? You could even roll the edges of the cupcake frosting in the shredded wheat for decoration!
