Hi, I'm considering switching my health insurance to Kaiser b/c I can save $300/mo! But I don't really know anything about Irvine Regional Hospital and was wondering if anyone can comment on their maternity care and any other hospital care there? I had my dd at Hoag and it was great. I'm now with Saddleback and have heard some good things about that hospital. Also, anyone have Kaiser in South Orange County and can you comment on your experiences w/them? Are there good doctors or any pediatrians, ob/gyn you would recommend?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice!
Jen

I have Kaiser. I have been to one obgyn in SJC and she was nice. Her first name is Debra and I think her last name is Geruit (sp). I havent had any other visits since having this insurance. If I can answer any other questions; please ask. Hope this helps.

I am not sure how Kaiser is but I had my daughter at Irvine Regional and I thought the maternity care was pretty good. I did have two rooms, delivery and recovery room, but they were both close to each other. The delivery room had a nice tub for when you are laboring, although I was unable to use it. That room had a fold out bed for the dad to sleep on. The recovery room was a little small and outdated, but there is a full size twin bed for dad and a fairly big bathroom in the room. The staff was really great. I was able to have my daughter in the room with me the entire time. The pre-registration process was easy and they had a variety of classes including a daddy boot camp class. I do know they built a great big new Kaiser facility next to the hospital. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have anyother questions!

I had both of my babies at IRH. I think that their OB care is alright, their birthing rooms are fine, nursing care is outstanding. Their NICU is great. Post-partum rooms leave much to be desired, but pp nurses are fantastic.

Now that Kaiser has their own hospital right across the street from IRH, I'm assuming that most of the care will transfer over there though. I have heard mostly negative things about Kaiser, Southern California for care. Northern California has a much better system and coverage (I was in the healthcare industry for 6.5 years so I know). You just know how to play your cards right with Kaiser if you are going to have them for insurance.

Saddleback Woman's Hospital is great too.

My sister in law has Kaiser, shes in another country right now, doing medical treatment for a tumor they found in her thyroid, she didnt even bother going to see any doctor in Kaiser, cause she knew that they would have found someway to deny her claim and tell her that it was a pre-existing condition, so unfortunatly, she packed 4 kids up, went to her home country, where everyone is insured as long as you are born there, and went to seek her medical care there.

I've never had Kaiser insurance but the people I know that have it don't like it. There's a lot of hoops you have to go through. Probably not with ob care but if you were to go with them for something else there is. My aunt had Keiser & actually ended up dying! Kaiser is not a fault with that but I know they could've detected her cancer sooner. Her nutshell story is she found out she had cancer & had chemo & then was cancer free. They told her in Nov. she was cancer free! She felt better was still having problems. The doctors kept telling her nothings wrong she needs to excersize but she couldn't cause she was in too much pain. Then they told her to go to her Dentist!! No clue why! In Feb. she went to the er cause she couldn't get up anymore & her husband couldn't carry her to the bathroom anymore. She went in on Monday & died on Thurs because she had cancer of the body pretty much! It was awful. In the ER they wouldn't even admit her cause they were still saying nothing was wrong. It wasn't until she had a seizure that they kept her. I'm sure this could happen with any insurance but I think because Kaiser is an insurance company they are out to make money. $300 is a lot maybe you could look into down grading your existing or something but I don't think I would take the chance.
