Hosting AM Party – Need Menu Ideas!

Hi Moms!

We were trying to host a smallish Sunday morning get-together. We, like most of our family are church going folk so we invited EVERYONE, thinking that only a handful at the most would come. Turns out, EVERYONE is planning on coming. Yikes! Our party is at 10am. Last time, we were able to get by with a fruit tray, bagles, OJ and a very very small angel cake. This time I am needing to feed about 30+ people. What do you suggest? I am willing to cook/make something from scratch if it’s fairly easy and will feed lots of mouths. Also, willing to get something pre-made. Just need ideas!

Thanks! =)

I have tried breakfast casseroles -- they work great for big crowds. You can put them together the night before in a big baking dish and then pop them in the oven the next morning. Try allrecipes.com for exact recipes -- most combine eggs, bacon, potatoes.

casseroles are great-
"biscuits and gravy" is another idea. All the biscuits could be made ahead of time (I'd use the frozen ones), and the gravy can stay on low in the crockpot.
Most kids wouldn't be takers, but the s would.
Have fun!

I went to a brunch where they did a yogurt bar (buffett stlye) and it was a huge hit. There were a couple large bowls of a few kinds of yogurt (the traditional kinds you can get in large tubs at Walmart, vanilla, strawberry, peach) then lots of fruit and granola to put on top. They also served the large Costco muffins, but cut into quarters. It was great for a summer.

Along with the fruit you could serve bite sized quiche. There are different kinds and come in huge boxes at Sam's club. You could also serve the little creme puffs you get at Sam's. Little work for you...and pretty tasty.

As said in other responses, go with a Strata (egg and bread dish). You can triple the basis recipe and do 3 separate dishes by varying the additional items (e.g. add different cheeses, meats, vegetables, etc.). It can be made the night before and baked in the morning. The basic recipe is below.

***Basic Strata Base:***
12 slices bread, cubed
1 pound cheddar cheese, shredded (or half Swiss Cheese)
4 cups milk
8 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons minced onion
cayenne pepper, salt and pepper
3 tablespoons butter

Look on allrecipes.com and find a breakfast casserole, they are usually pretty simple, some can be put together the night before and popped in the oven the next morning. Maybe some muffins of different kinds, fruit is always a big hit and maybe a platter of sausage and bacon. Good luck!

Oh, you could also do an oatmeal bar w/ different add ins like brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, chocolate chips, bananas, etc.

Have you considered asking some of the other guests to bring some dishes?? Just wondering.

Also, if you google "Breakfast casserole recipes", there are TONS of great recipes online, and most of them feed a LOT of people. Good thing is, most of them you can make ahead, refrigerate and just pop in the oven Sunday morning before your guests start to arrive.

I'd also do the fruit and bagels, because some people don't like heavy stuff for breakfast.

I agree with the breakfast casserole idea...gives people something hearty and you can do it all the night before and just pop in the oven in the AM. The recipe given is similar to one I use...you can also refer to allrecipes.com for recipes! Have fun at your party!

Hi!
For a large breakfast/brunch gathering I would make an egg casserole or a frittata. They are easy, inexpensive and a great addition to what you are already planning. If you want a great recipe for a casserole, email me and I'll send one along--a have a really easy and really GOOOD recipe that I got from my MIL. It is always a huge hit!

I agree with the casserole ideas suggested.

I got a great one from my neighbor that does a annual holiday brunch for the whole neighborhood.

Green Chili Casserole
1 lb shredded cheese (prefer cheddar or colby)
1 can green chilis (prefer 7 oz can)
1 pint sour cream
12 eggs

Preheat oven to 350. Oil 9 x 13 pan and cover with cheese. Spread can of chilis over cheese. Beat eggs and add sour cream. Pour mixture over the cheese and green chilis and bake 30 minutes or until knife inserts cleanly.

Great served with fresh fruit or rolled in a tortilla.

Easy to half recipe for 8 x 8

SUPER EASY and OH SO GOOD.

You could make a large quiche, it's very easy and you can assemble the night before and just pop it into the oven so it will be ready shortly before your guests arrive. There are lots of recipes for quiche so I would search online for one that appeals to you.

My SIL makes a really tasty casserole. It has shredded hash browns, eggs, cheese and green chili's. She tosses it all in a pan and cooks it in the oven. Occasionally she opens the oven and stirs it to prevent sticking. This would be really easy and cheap. Once it is cooked (mostly waiting for the eggs to cook and cheese to melt) crumble bacon on the top or cooked sausage. You could make one pan of each, or make it without meat.

Serve with bagels, cinnamon rolls and fruit. Have fun-sounds like a great time!

The most delicious and memorable brunch I ever experienced was just a few weeks ago. I cannot wait to do this sometime for others...it was SO GOOD!! Some friends of ours made crepes and rolled them with a filling of slightly sweetened cream cheese. They were all done ahead of time and waiting to be eaten in a very low oven. They served them with various syrups (I used blueberry!) and a fruit salad. They also had muffins, bacon and sausage. It was DIVINE. I think you could cook up the bacon and sausage the night before, purchase the muffins, and make the crepes in the morning before everyone arrives and you would have a bunch of very happy, IMPRESSED guests!! Good luck! I love parties! Whatever you decide to do, hope you have fun!!

How about doing a breakfast egg casserole. I had my daughters b-day party on a Sunday morning and made 2 of these. You make them the night before so the bread can soak up the egg. Then you just heat them in the morning (You can plan to cook them while you are at church if you don't mind having the oven on while you are not there). I have a few recipes that I use and sometimes combine them. Here is one:

Select 1 or more Meat fillings: Ham, pork sausage, bacon etc..
9 eggs
3 cups of milk
1 1/2 tsp of dry mustard
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 med. onion finely diced
9 or more slices of white bread, cubed
6 oz or more of grated cheddar cheese

Brown sausage/meats. Beat eggs. Add milk, mustard, salt, onion and bread. Stir in cheese and meat. Pour into a 9x13 inch greased pan. Store in the refrigerator overnight. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

** You can jazz it up more by covering the top (right before baking) with corn flakes (whole or crushed a bit) and pouring 1 stick of butter over the flakes. Then bake.

What about quiche? It is easy to make or you can buy it already made. I think costco has some in the freezer section and they are individual quiche's.

You could also make a fruit salsa, I think kraftfoods.com has a recipe. You can serve it with tortillas. Just butter them, put cinnamon and sugar, cut in wedges then bake them until crisp. It's something you could make the night before.

Sounds fun, have a good time.
