How Are the Schools in the Colony?

My daughter will be starting 3rd grade in the Fall and we plan to move in the summer. We're currently in Coppell ISD and love the community feel of the town and the schools are terrific, but we don't want to eliminate anything without exploring our options. I'm not very familiar with Frisco The Colony area. Where are the best areas to look into? Any schools that stand out -- elementary all the way to high school. Any areas to avoid?

What can I do next?

Frisco ISD schools are very good from what I researched when I moved to the area 5 years ago, and my personal experience with my two kids who go to Spark's Elem. I have not heard very positive things about Little Elm or The Colony schools from teachers I play soccer with or other parents. I recommend you research the schools and their ratings online before you make a final decision on city and neighborhood to relocate to. Good Luck!

We LOVE LISD! My daughter is in 1st grade and I am extreamly active in PTA and we could not be better. In the Colony, Etheridge is an excellent stable school. Peters Colony is a wonderful school with an awesome staff, but they lack in parent involvement just a little. If you want to be a very active school mom, Peters Colony will welcome you with open arms! Independence Elementary is a brand new school that doesnt open until next Fall. It will be a state of the art facility, plus it will feed into the brand new this year Killian Middle school right next door. Check out www.lisd.net to see all the stats, locations and websites for each of the schools. Even though we are big, 50,000 students, each school keeps their own small town feel.

R. - I am not sure how the schools are in the Colony, but my third grader attends Boals Elementary and I really like it. Both of my kids previously went to private schools in another state and I am very impressed with Frisco ISD curriculum. They are both doing well and challenged, which is what I was concerned about.

Check out www.greatschools.com or org and you can view all of the schools scores and ratings!

Good luck, I know how important it is to have your children in a great school. But remember, great schools make up of great involved parents.

I have been living in The Colony for many years. If you were to decided to move here, Dont pass the Legands area or behind them. If possible come more the opposite towards the Lake Area. There are beautiful homes and Etheridge Elementary is a very nice school. As for Frisco the are populated stay more Mid south or closer to Legacy, Tollway, along the middle areas. Frisco has awesome schools as well. Good luck!

You mentioned Frisco - The Colony area. I would also look into Frisco. They have very good schools and many that have achieved the highest rankings and some of the best in the metro area. I know there is a State website with rankings for all the schools. Most schools advertise this too. Smith in Frisco, where my daughter will go next year, is a top rated school, plus that part of Frisco is established and homes have been selling well here while homes in much of the newer areas have just been sitting on the market - you might want to think of that part of your investment too.

i worked in the colony school as a therapist and they really haave some great programs and it definitely still has that small town feel which is great to build community. i currently live in frisco and really like their idea of smaller numbers in their highschool vs plano but it still is relatively big but they have great ideas for programs. my advice would be to go onto the website to see who is excelling. frisco definitely has more to offer as a city w/ all the concert, sporting events and shopping.
good luck!

Actually, LISD - Lewisville ISD (The Colony included)is a great district. My husband & I mt here - had to move a year after getting married and we have now been back here for over 2 years. Our daughter is now in 7th grade. She has been attending schools here in town since the 2nd grade. We've had great sucess with all the grade levels she has been in. The schools and faculty are great. Our son is 3 - and we are looking forward to him growing up and going to school here. It's a small enough town that you still get a small town feel - but are close to so much! Good luck!

We have been in the Frisco Schools for 2 years. They have been wonderful! They have helped both my children with reading and math issues. As well as been very patient with my 5 year old daughter who has a bit of a strong personality :)

Good luck on your move.

The elementary schools in The Colony are OK!. The middle schools are not as good. You can go to LISD.net and see each schools ratings. Frisco has much better schools.
