Thank you Diane B and Suz t - spot on! It takes two to make a baby...why are we only looking to girls/women for responsible choices? If men/boys weren't willing to have unprotected sex, unintended pregnancies would be more rare.

Additionally, reproductive education that is grounded in facts (and not nonsense like abstinence-only) is NOT as widely available as you think, and access to safe, effective and affordable birth control is not universal either.

Why are men leaving women to take care of their babies? Why are men getting sex ed and not using condoms? Why are men letting the county take care of their kids instead of doing it themselves?
THIS is the problem. Why are we blaming women and not men at the same time?

And...teen birth rates are going down. So...I think the sex ed is working.

"The 2016 teen birth rate (births per 1,000 females ages 15-19 in a given year) is down nine percent from 2015, when the birth rate was 22.3, and down 67 percent from 1991 when it was at a record high of 61.8." hhs.gov Office of Adolescent Health

Its got nothing to do with sex education and the availability of methods tot avoid pregnancy. Teens on a whole tend to live in the moment not thinking ahead to what could happen. Unprotected sex doesn't equal pregnancy or STDs to them because nothing bad is going to happen. If they do get pregnant they are certain that boy will be there at their side forever.

The brain doesn't function as an adult for a long time so these teens aren't making good choices. Same for the boys who will think nothing of having unprotected sex and making baby after baby while not supporting them.

Oh I just have to get political here.

Maybe it’s because the right wants to stop and defund plan parenthood and access to abortions for women.

Why would you want low income people to have access to contraceptives and family planning?

Then women are stuck with children and have to have get support from the same government that denied them basic healthcare.

Child cost 1/2 million vs. IUD. $500

Self defeating prophecy.

Because at the end of the day, people will still do what they want to do, even if it means ignoring proper contraception. I'm sure you were warned of the dangers of drinking and still drank, rather than not touching a bottle ever in your life. Also, no birth control method is 100% fail proof, even men who had vasectomies have impregnated their wives, when they thought that was no longer possible.

There are people living in major metropolitan areas who don't even know how to spell "contraception". No lie!! We need better sex education for all.

Not everyone receives the same level of education. Also, it's not uncommon for teens to think it can never happen to them.

You should get out there and volunteer to help these young women, get to know them. Mother to Mother is a great program I used to volunteer with. They provide mentoring for young single moms, it was through the United Way.

I think you'll find all the answers to your questions once you get to know some of these women.

Are you bored? You actually created an account to ask this? Seems to be more of a trolling post than a real one. Please restate your question in a legitimate, grammatically correct manner with details of how this is affecting you as a mom or your teenager, a friend or someone in your family.

it's CONTRACEPTION - sounds like you need to go back and get an education.

Why are their still pregnant teens? Because they don't feel it will happen to them. They might be seeing all the "FREE STUFF" and feeling they are entitled to it. They see all the free stuff the ILLEGALS get and BAM!! say - well - I'm HERE - I get it too!!

Who knows what their boyfriends are saying! it's not like they got pregnant alone or from a toilet seat....

Wow. You're being very judgmental today. There are those that don't take contraception's simply because they don't think getting pregnant will happen to them. Some find that some contraception's don't work for them and get pregnant in the process of finding what does work for them. Some are worried that if they don't put out then their male friend, partner or whatever will leave. Some, like a few married women I know, think that having a baby will keep a man when it has been proven time and again that a baby will not keep a man.

The next time you are feeling this way just ask a single mother with more kids then you think she should have why she didn't use birth control. You can also ask if sex education was offered at her school because there are still schools that don't offer sex ed. Have your curiosity answered by someone in the know and then maybe instead of judging the person you can offer your help in some way.

One more thing I would like to add is birth control may not be affordable for the woman. Do you know of a man who is willing to pay for birth control for his girlfriend? Planned Parenthood offers free to low cost birth control but with the number of people out picketing against abortion that a lot of the women who go there aren't seeking, it can be intimidating. STOP blaming the women. As a women I am sick of being the cause. Who is on the side of the woman. It's sad when men blame women for things but it's even worse when women blame each other. Stop blaming and do something to help the problem you are complaining about.
