I clean mine the same way I do my hair...
I take them into the shower with me and wash them with shampoo. It works for my hair, why not my brush as well?
:)
I have really long, very (naturally) curly hair. I use a lot of products on my hair nfor the curl, but rarely blow dry it. I do straiten it on occasion.
My question is how do I get all of the mousse/gel/hairspray/leave in conditioner out of the brushes and combs? They are getting pretty sticky and I need to clean them before the dry winter air means that I am using a different set of products!

You can either throw them out and start from scratch. Or, toss them in the sink or bin with some liquid Lysol. I use an old toothbrush to clean combs with some dish washing soap. With my round brush, I first have to pull and cut out the hair. I lose a lot! Then I do the same thing with the brush. Soak and then use an old toothbrush on it. I'll use a comb to pull out any hair on the bristles as well. Rinse thoroughly and let air dry.

Try soaking them in water with baking soda for an hour, and then use an old tooth brush. This is how I clean my combs, picks, and brushes.

Every so often, I fill my bathroom sink with hot water and shampoo and give them a good soak. After they soak, I clean the brushes with each other and use my wide tooth comb to comb out any hair from the brushes. Works like a charm. No need to buy any special products to clean them...just use your shampoo!
Hi C.; After you remove any hair from your combs and brushes just soak them in a sink full of hot soapy water for 15-20 minutes (dish soap is great) then rinse them in hot water and lay them on a folded towel (teeth down for brushes) to dry. This is the way my mom taught me to wash them; I do it about once a month or so. Best wishes
Hi C.,
I usually just soak mine in a cup full of hot water for about an hour then the gook usually come right off when I wipe them down.

I put mine in the dishwasher.
if you go to Sally's Beauty Supply, they have this stuff called Ship Shape... it is a comb and brush cleaner... it is what I use in my salon... just dont leave them to soak too long cause the bristles will fall out of the brush.
also, if you rinse the combs as soon as you are finished w ith them, you will not get that buildup!
to keep the hair out of the brushes, use a pic and pull the hair out as soon as you are finished, or once a week
hope that helps!
If you have a dish washer you can put them on the top rack. If not, you can boil them in hot water. I am not sure what brand you have but the brush and comb I have are dishwasher safe.
After removing all the hair, I soak them in really hot water with shampoo. After a good soak in the hot shampoo water, the products typically wipe or gently scrub right off.
After you remove the hair, toss them all in the dishwasher. Gets them much cleaner than doing it by hand, and quicker.
soak them in some hot water with dawn dish soap. let them sit for awhile. you probably have a lot of products that have lacquer or alcohol on them which makes it really sticky.
most of the product should come off. wipe them off with a clean dry towel when you are done. if that does not work take a old towel or tshirt, put some rubbing alcohol on the combs and brushed and see if that helps loosen the product.
I have used baking soda and hot water. soaked them for a little while in it seems to work pretty good.
put them in the sink with ammonia....it smells horrible, but cleans combs & brushes wonderfully!!!
