Hello everyone. We are moving in about a month. I am having a hard time find boxes that I can use for packing. Does anyone know where to get free or inexpensive boxes for packing?? Also any other tips to help our move go smoothly would be appreciated!!

What can I do next?

We have moved A LOT and I have to say it is well worth it to buy the boxes you need in the proper size. We just moved and bought ours at Home Depot. We probably spent about $100 total on boxes (for around 30 boxes I think). They are around $2 a piece depending on size. In the past we have begged boxes and used what we got and it was MUCH harder than just conveniently having the size box we needed. Also because they were new we saved them in our basement and will use them again. Good luck with your move.

By the way if you do decided to buy them from Home Depot don't order them online. The delivery is very expensive but they actually have the boxes in the stores (the website says they don't!) so you can just go grab them. We got ours at the Home Depot on Schaumburg Rd/Barrington.

I wouldn't get boxes from any kind of food store. chances of bringing in roaches are higher. I got my boxes at the public library.

You might also look for your local freecycle group. www.freecycle.org
You can offer things you don't want to move with you, but are still have use left in them, vs. pitching in the garbage. Group items together to make it easier on yourself.
You can post a wanted request for moving boxes. I have seen them a few times lately on my local group.
I think they request that you post an offer first before a wanted post.

Good luck, hope it goes smoothly.

You could go to Walmart and Target. They will give you boxes for no cost to you.

the last time I moved I got some boxes for free from my local grocery store, I saw the man taking them to the dumpster so I asked if I could have them. He said sure, and said I could come get some more the next week! It was awesome! they were broken down, all I had to do was put them back together.

Try Craigs List http://chicago.craigslist.org/ and look under "for sale" click on "free". I've seen people list moving boxes on there in the recent days...
