I would try a baking soda bath and some cream to see if it could help. I know they have some aveeno oatmeal bath for kids you could try these are things they recommend for toddlers when they have rashes. I hope this helps and gl.
Well, I had our new baby girl last Wednesday, whoo hoo! But the hospital was short staffed, and they didn't change my "pad" that first night of bedrest. So I got a rash on my rear, and it is really itchy, and it spread into my "creases" of baby fat, on my sides, underbelly lap. I think it is heat rash, but it is looking pretty bad. I've tried buttpaste-but it seems to be pretty moist, I've tried powder, but it hasn't helped clear it, only stop itching. Any ideas?? it is really yucky looking and itchy. i don't see my doctor for another week and I hope to have it under control by then. It's really red and the little bumps turning into bigger bumps! please help!

sounds like a yeast infection. Call your doctor and get something. It won't get better on its own. Please don't wait, as it will spread.
Hi C.,
My baby girl had heat rash when she was about a month and a half old (she was born in June and it was a pretty warm summer). Anyway, I would recommend plain old cornstarch. You can use it right out of the shower after drying off. They do make a baby powder with cornstarch but you sound severe so I would go right for the real stuff. God Bless!
I would go see your doctor now. This could be an infection that requires antibiotics. I don't think that not changing your pad would have been the only cause for this. If you don't go to the doctor until later try lotrimin (for athletes foot)this has an ingredient that kills the fungus. Take care of yourself and enjoy your baby girl.
That is definitely not what you need to be dealing with right now. My advice is twofold: 1. Sit in a tub of water for 15 minutes at least 3 times a day (just enough to cover the parts affected) For itchiness, you could sprinkle oatmeal in the bath, although it is kind of messy. 2. I would also definitely call your Dr. or an "Ask A Nurse" Hotline as you could have an skin infection (such as yeast or fungal).
Good Luck.
I agree that it might be something to tell your doctor about...it might require something stronger to get rid of it. If it is just a diaper rash, you could try an anti-fungal (like athelete's foot cream). That mixed with a little bag balm works wonders.
It sounds like you might consider seeing the doctor soon considering how this has spread. In the meantime you might try Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream. We've had lots of success with a variety of rashes with it. GL and congratulations!
As others have said, you should probably call a doctor to make sure it is nothing serious. Hoever, if it is not serious, I would recommend putting slippery elm powder on it. This is an herb you can get at any health food store. Make a paste with a little bit of slippery elm powder and a little bit of water, and cover the rash. This has worked wonders for yeasty diaper rash that was actually aggravated by diaper cream.
Congratulations!! And good luck.
C.,
Congrats on the birth of your baby. About the rash it really sounds like a yeast infection I would try monostat or something along that nature and see if it clears up. If not I would call the Dr. and have him check it out.
Good luck and God Bless.

when nothing else seems to work try corn starch it absorbs the moisture and helps prevent chafeing ..i am a larger woman and prone to heat rashes bbut when i first feel like a rash is forming and apply the corn starch then the rash is usually prevented before it can get worse
You seriously need to call your doctor and tell him what's going on. He will want to know.
I would agree that it sounds like a yeast infection. I was shocked when my boys (when babies) came down with a rash that would not respond to treatment, it turned out to be a yeast infection. I didn't know babies or boys for that matter can get yeast infections. Or that they can affect your skin in the manner that it did, I was told it was quite common. No sooner did I start putting on the monistat and it cleared right up!
But for one as severe as you are describing you should see the doc, for a possible oral medication. But meanwhile, go to walmart and buy AZO yeast pills, eat lots of yogurt, put a yeast cream on a few times a day, cut out sugars and keep things as dry as possible.
You might be right, but i would see your OB right away. One can pick up weird things in a hospital. I had RoNo virus the night I came home (4 days after). everyone was sick, my mom, my husband, mya sister in-law and I had to go tothe emergency room as I popped my stitches getting sick. Luckily (or not) my daughter was a premie and still in the hospital nicu. so I would get it checked to be sure. Maybe there is a perscription for it.
Dear C.,
I would call your doctor now!! You need to be diagnosed. A heat rash does not do what you are describing. You might have an infection.
I used to be a CNA at a nursing home and have seen this before. We used A&D ointment and it seems to help clear it up pretty good. also be sure to let it breathe a bit and wear cotton underware. Hope this helps!
Is the rash getting better or worse? If it's getting better then wait until your appointment. If it's getting worse, call your doctor.
CALL YOURS DOCTOR. It could be anything. But do you want to risk it being something bad? Your doctor might be able to get you in early. If not he/she could maybe answer some of your questions
It needs lots of air--as silly as this sounds, you may need to walk around naked for awhile! I had a similar rash once, and it helped to bathe in Aveeno oatmeal bath. If I were you, I would stop putting anything on it, and let it breathe. That's what they advise for severe diaper rash and heat rash (the only reason for the ointment is so that urine will not make the rash worse in babies). So, if you can get away with it, just wear a big long t-shirt for a few days! Hope this helps.
I think that you need to call your doctor and see him or her immediately. This could be a yeast infection in the skin.
