Hi ladies.
My oldest blew out a candle in a christmas display on my side table and my youngest got curious and dumped wax all over the arm of my sofa. I remember something about wax paper and an iron, but I've no clue exactly how to remove the wax. Does anyone know this trick, and does it only work on wool?? Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated. I love this sofa! The sofa is a heavy brown cloth. I've machine washed the pillows and they have come out great, not even any fading...so it's hearty material. Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow! I scraped it off as much as I could with the butterknife, vacuumed the crumbled wax, then I used wax paper first with an old towel on top the wax paper, ironed on medium. I could actually see the melted wax stuck to the wax paper. It still looked a little oily, so I ironed it with just the old towel a few times with the iron on hotter and you'd never know it had happened! The texture of the material is slightly flattened from ironing, but I think it will puff back up. Thanks, ladies...I was scared to try for fear I'd make it worse, but with combining techniques, it's all better..Yay!

I have done the same except it was carpet... I used a hot iron and newspaper. All I did was lay the newspaper over the wax and hold the iron very close to the newspaper without touching it, the heat melts the wax and the paper soaked it up. Now you cannot even tell what happened. Worked great...hope this helps!!

Something similar happened to my mom's sofa, only on the front part attached to the sofa no the cushion or arm. We scraped off as much as possible, then we used old t-shirts and scraps of cloth from the "rag bag" and some paper towels with the iron to soak the wax into and pull it off the couch. It took a while and it did look a bit odd for a bit, but two years later you can't tell it ever looked odd.

You can try to scrape it off with the dull side of a butter knife. I think I've heard the iron and wax paper one before but I can't really remember. But after it dries it should be pretty easy to scrape off, thought I think that it will always leave a greasy looking spot.

If heat doesn't work, you might try an ice pack. That's how you get melted candles out of candleholders. Good luck!

I know how to remove Crayon. I believe crayons are made out of wax. I googled how do you remove crayon. Take some brown paper and lay it over the wax and then iron it off an keep repeating it until it comes off. It really works.

paper towels and an iron -- not waxed paper. You need to absorp the wax. Have you removed most of it by freezing it with ice cubes first?

When I was a kid we use to get wax out of the carpet at church by using an iron and several layers of paper towels in between the iron and the wax. As the wax melts the paper towels absorbs it. We kept changing out paper towels until it was all absorbed. I would think this would work on your couch as well. I don't think you need to turn the iron up very high, just enough to melt the wax ... you don't want to scorch the fabric of your couch so be aware of that. Hope you can get it out.

I dated a guy who detailed car's on the side and he had a blue cloth interior with melted crayon on the back seat. I took a Brown Paper bag and placed it over the melted crayon and then used an iron and it all came up and didn't leave the residu or oily stain.
