How Do You Clean Your Kitchen Floor, and with What?

I need some recommendations for kitchen floor cleaning. I have been doing it by hand, and my knees are killing me! (Plus I'm not getting it often enough)
Anyone tried the swiffer? How about a steam cleaner? Any equipment sweeps and cleans in one step? Also what cleaning products do you use? I have a 11 month old with a great pincer grip, so I need to stay on top of this tile floor...she sees every little spec of dirt on it and goes after it!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I am in the process of switching over all of my cleaning and personal care products to Shaklee. I wanted to use things that are safer for the environment and for my son. To learn more about creating safe environments for children, please attend a presentation by the non-profit organization Healthy Child, Heatly World <http://www.mothersboutique.com/healthychild.html>. There is one next week at the Gymboree at the Galleria. To learn more about shaklee, please visit <http://www.shaklee.net/eganshaw>. A colleague of mine sells the products and they are great. Please tell her that I referred you if you end up purchasing anything.

I saw the Shark Steam mop get 5 out of 5 stars on Test It Tuesday (local news story) and bought one. We looooove it! Works wonders on our hard wood and tile.

I use a Bissell Flormate. It is able to vacumn first, then scrub the floor and squeegee it dry. I use it on the hardwood as well as the tile. They make cleaners specifically for the machine, but I use a vinegar and water solution. The only thing U cannot use in the machine is pinesol...did this with my first model. The machine make life so much easier. The only problem I have is the tank is not big enough and I end up filing it twice. Hope this helps!

Hi S.,
I have a coated hardwood floor in my kitchen. I use my upright Dyson on "bare floor" to pick up the crumbs and junk forst then I use a wet Swiffer to get the rest of the filth. Once in awhile, I do it with Murphy's Oil Soap in a bucket of water with a rag on my hands & knees because it's just necessary to get the baseboards, corners, etc. I could clean it every day--but mostly don't. I just use wet paper towels to get the "war zones" after meals!

I have this funky tile floor with lots of crevices for dirt. I use the Mr. Clean mop thing with the pads that you attach to it (the handle detaches and you can use the mop head like a hand held scrubber). I prefer the pre-moistened mop pads for it, but haven't been able to find them lately, so I use the scrubber mop pad that you wet and it gets soapy. It's not perfect, but it only takes a couple of minutes.

I am in the same boat! I got a Swivel Sweeper (from Walmart, but they sell them on TV too) and I am seriously in love with the thing. It is marvelous. It has a rechargeable battery and a "crumb tray" so no bags or anything like that. I also have started using microfiber mop heads with just water on them-- or a little Method floor cleaner, if it is really bad. I try to do both each day or every other day-- staying on top of it makes a big difference.

Hi S.,

I have a slate like ceramic tile floor and have the same problems with two toddlers and 3 big dogs. I try not to buy harmful products, preferring non animal tested and enviormentally safe. I bought a very inexpensive lysol steam mop. (i ORDERED IT ON LINE THROUGH TARGET)It was only around 30-40 dollars I believe and it works great with or without cleaning products. I buy method products, there is a floor cleaner. I spray a little on the floor & steam right over it. It does work best & start up faster if you fill it with hot water to start.

Have fun cleaning!

I take a bigger towel, soap it up with floor cleaner: I use only non-toxic products, and plop the towel on the floor, slip my feet in an old pair of flip flops and scoot across the floor several times. Not only is it good exercise, but your using your whole body's weight on the floor, so it wipes away any grime spots easily. And, its not hard on the knees! I have a white ceramic tile floor in my kitchen, and this has been the best way for me get it nice and clean!
