How Do You Handle Not Using Wipes?

Several of you have helped me in the past with my son's diaper rash/yeast infection issues. One of the main ways I treated it was by not using wipes, and instead just using a paper towel soaked in warm water. It did seem to help. Well now, my pediatrician has told me to stop using wipes completely even when he has no rash; and only use the water. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on an efficient and convenient way to do this? Are paper towels too rough to use on a regular basis? Is there something better to use? For each change, I have been heating up water (it takes several minutes to get warm from my taps) and getting a small bowl of water to use and dispose of. I feel awful wasting water like this. Any tips? Thanks. (By the way, we are also getting him allergy tested in case that is the cause.)

What can I do next?

My mom never used wipes on us. They didn't have them. She just used wash clothes. I would buy a whole bunch of baby wash clothes. Wet them and keep them in a wipe warmer. Then have a separate laundry basket to put them in and wash them separately. Just as someone would do if they used cloth diapers.

OK, I am not sure about this...but just a thought...

You know those wipe warmers? I bet you could put some wet papertowels in that to keep them warm and convienient for when you need it!

Hi J.,

I used the flannel wipes from www.clothdiaper.com for both of my kids. My changing table was in the bathroom, so I wet them with warm water at the sink. As someone else said though, you might be able to wet them & then keep them in a wipe warmer.

BTW, I also used the all-in-one cloth diapers from that company and found them very convenient & comfortable for my babies.

try Pampers' Sensitive Wipes. You could keep water warm in a coffee mug so that it's ready when you are.

Many wipes and paper towels contain bleach and formaldehyde(quaternium 15) which so many children are allergic to. You may try using unbleached paper towels from Sprouts or your local health food store.

What about using a tissue? It's about the same size as wipes but not as abrasive or you might want to use 2 tissues. You could also warm up a cup of water in the microwave for a few seconds. I'm not sure which costs more, running hot water until it's warms or using electricity to use the microwave. I just thought I'd share my tips. I use the microwave and Kleenex.
