I was wondering how long you have to wait to take a bath after a C-section? I am on my 5th week. They told me at the hospital no baths but didnt say how long. I want to sit in the bath so bad. Some people have told me its ok but I have had some seperation of the skin on my incision and not sure if thats normal. I called the doc's office and they told me to put a bandaid on it! I guess if that wasnt happening I wouldnt be so leary. Any suggestions?
PS. Just to let everyone know I do take showers daily. Haha Dont want anyone to think I havent showered in 5 weeks! I just want to soak in the bath soooo bad!
I have had two csections, and what i was always told is if the incision is completely closed, you can take a bath.
My doctor only made me wait until she removed the staples. With my third I had a similiar issue with my incision, and my doctor put some sort of powder on it that carterized my open area. Good Luck!
Hi Molly... I had the same question! I had a C-Section in May and my incision was slow to heal too. My doctor had said to wait until that 6th week until I could take a bath and mainly because he didn't want me laying in dirty water. It was around the 5th week post partum that I couldn't wait any longer. I got in the warm bath but just made sure the water line didn't come up and over my incision...... until week 6.

I know how you feel! I had all kinds of problems with my incision. It took at least 12 weeks to heal. All I wanted was to take a bath and relax. Just make sure your incision dries completely after your bath. I would lie on my bed with the ceiling fan on. A little chilly but some more quiet time for yourself.
You should be having your 6 week postpartum coming up at that time they'll tell what you can resume back to doing
I had 3 c-sections and took showers right away but no bath for at least 6 weeks. If yours is separating I would not take a bath until it closes. My 3rd one got infected and had celulitis so it took longer to heal and probably didn't take a bath for 2-3 months with that one but was glad for the shower.

and a hysterectomy. I would think if they are not concerned about the gaping. Then as long as there is no oozing or the
like then go ahead and sit in your tub and enjoy!!!

up very fast. My youngest is 21 and the oldest will be 26 on the 12th of November.

If you have some seperation of the skin I would not get in the bathtub. I would wait and ask your Doctor at your 6 week check-up. Congrats on the new baby!
At 5 weeks, if you are wanting a bath, TAKE IT!!!! I thought my incision was still open, but it wasn't, just a weird way it healed. (It no longer looks like that)
If you are concerned, I wouldn't use a bandaid, I would use some bandage tape. Just put the tape over it, sit in a hot bath (maybe nix any bubbles or salts) with some candles and relax! COngrats on your new baby and enjoy your time with him. My baby just turned 2 and I'm having a very hard time with it! I had no idea I would feel this way when my kids got older ;-)
IMHO, would wait till you see your ob at your 6 week pp visit. I would think that with broken skin, and wanting to soak in the tub that the inscision could get infected.
Hi there! I have had two c-sections, and I believe that you normally get the ok at your 6-week post-partum appt. I had some complications (I hemorrhaged out my incision) with my first one and wasn't allowed to bathe at all for 8 weeks!!! I have a clotting disorder and was on blood thinners, so don't let that freak you out! ;-)
Second time, no major issues, but I did have what you're describing where the skin healed a little off center and bled and oozed a little, but as long as you keep it clean, it shouldn't be a big deal. Definitely check with your doctor, though. I bet at your appt next week, you'll get the go-ahead. Good luck!
They told me I had to wait six weeks. Sorry. I wanted a bath SO bad too...
You can take SHOWERS only until your sutures and staples on the outside are removed. Soaking in a bath can loosen your sutures.
For your safety, WAIT!! If your cut is still opened, DO NOT get in the tub. It may cause some infection. You've waited this long, what one more week? Let the Doc tell you that it's okay. Then, get some soothing music, bubble bath, and enjoy your bath....AFTER you have healed!!
They'll probably tell you at your 6 week checkup that baths are fine, but I would wait to get the OK from your doctor.
I agree, wait til after your 6 week check up and when your incision is competely healed.
I waited 6 weeks, and was fine. I was dying to sit in the bath too. Good Luck
I'd wait for the incision to heal, just to prevent infection. Also, when I had healing issues in one part of my incision, the doctor was big on keeping it dry to help it heal. I'd lay under the ceiling fan to help dry the area. That did help it finally close better.
I was able to take a bath 2 days after my c-section and did so before I was even released from the hospital. I wanted to bath as soon as the epidural wore off and I was able to walk again, but they made me wait 24 hours.
