.. to start working out after you had your baby? .. (our little girl will be 3 weeks old on thursday) i feel like such a fat blob lol .. i gained around 50 lbs during my pregnancy, my daughter was born at 6lbs 12oz.. im not stupid i mean i didnt expect to be skinny again right after giving birth being that i gained so much weight but i guess i didnt expect my belly to be as big as it is still .. i feel like i went from looking like i was 9months pregnant to looking like im 5 months pregnant ..yesterday i went into cvs where a friend of mine works (i go in there almost everyday) and he was like o congratulations n all that good stuff and one of the other employees was like o0o u finally had the baby and i guess my friend could see the look of horror on my face because he was very quick to respond to him with of course she did look at her shes half the size! .. but anyway how soon is too soon to start working out?.. i called my doctor the other day and asked about wether it was ok if i went in my pool and got a very quick no not until u come in a month to see the doctor and be cleared u dont want to push it and get an infection.. but i forgot to ask about working out.. i called a few minutes ago but i got the "you have called after our calling hours" which is weird because its not even 230 but anyway .. im eating healthy/dieting already but that alone has never worked for me i need to work out if i really want to lose the weight.. i have an eliptical machine that i love that im dieing to get back on.. i just dont want to push it too soon ( had a vaginal delivery, no episiotomy- but still i dont want to injure myself unnecessarily) if u cant tell this is my first child.. thanks in advance for your input
i should add that i know everyone says sleep when the babys sleeping but i cant sleep during the day i never could.. so i have an open window of time during the day where i could be downstairs running on the eliptical

What can I do next?

At about 6 weeks I could fit in my pre-pregnancy pants but still had about 7lbs to loose. That was without doing anything. I think I gained about 40 lbs. throughout the pregnancy.

Generally it's 6 weeks, and not before your doctor gives the ok. You could trigger bleeding and blood pressure issues and who-knows-what other problems. Be patient. You'll get there. Until then, use those blocks of time to rest, eat healthy, and stay hydrated. Baby needs you :)

If you feel up to it, I would say you can start some low-impact exercise now. It really depends on how you feel. The doctor said no pool because of risk of infection. But walking, or gentle work on the elliptical should be fine. Just start out slow and don't push yourself. Good luck!

I would say listen to your body. Some people are ok with some light to moderate exercise at 1 week postpartum and others are still not ready at 6 weeks. If you start bleeding super heavy or feel any pain, slow it down. Every pregnancy and everybody is different. I couldn't work out until about 5 weeks PP with baby #2 but with baby #3 I was on my elliptical doing a light workout on day 8 or 9. Take it slow and you'll be fine. Congrats on your baby!

6 weeks, you have to give your uterus time to heal and be okay. I was the exact same way, but was warned not to do it too early or you could do some real damage while you heal. Your uterus needs time to heal after that. Also, ease back into it, as you are prone to injury because of the stretching and the ligaments etc.

I waited for the all clear from my doc which was about 6 weeks. I did go for walks regularly though and didn't just mozy but really made sure to get my heart rate up, but not too crazy. This is your first, just enjoy the baby while you can. Mine is 2 now and I wonder where the heck the time went. I have managed to lose all of my baby weight and then some. You need to not be so worried about getting this off immediately but safely when, and only when, the doc says its ok. Be patient. While you may not feel like you are ina body that really belongs to you, know it will come back and don't be so caught up on this right now. Good luck and remember to be patience!!!!!

The magic time for everything seems to be six weeks, but you could take the baby for a few walks if it is nice out...you are your own judge of how your body feels. If it is too much, then stop of course. And you are not fat, you just had a baby. I get so angry at this. Such a magical time and people rob eachother of the pleasure of just being a new mom because we think we are supposed to look like movie stars.

I waited about a week due to my episiotomy. I started with walking and light weights and worked back up to running. I also took an awesome class called Stroller Fit. You worked out in a circuit with your baby in a stroller. It was a great bonding experience with other mommies and baby got to see mommy work out!

Good luck.

I wasted till 6 weeks....I got on my treadmill a few times before 6 weeks and would bleed pretty bad each time. Enjoy your 6 weeks and fully heal then hit it hard after your 6 week check up.

I just nursed her (calories) and focused on being able to walk (her first walk was with daddy alone) before my 6 week checkup. After that I think you can ramp up again. Remember that you put it on it 9 months, it will take a few months to come off. It's ONLY been a few weeks.

Um, 10 years or so? Lol! Never did really get back into the exercise mode again after DS was born until just a year ago. However, I was fit to go do whatever after 4 weeks (normal delivery.) Though I didn't 'work out' I went swimming with the kids, on hikes, big long shopping trips at the mall, and trips to the beach.

I probably depends on if it was a cesearian or natural birth...episiotomy or natural tear and how many stitches and how fast you heal. Mine was 100% natural and only 3 stitches. I was told no going up and down steps a lot for 3 weeks, so I don't open up the stitches...However....the hospital I went to was into being healthy and exercise, so they gave me certain exercises to do. It was gentle crunches and walking on a flat level surface. They didn't believe in "stork parking" either. I was told that I was to park at the end of the parking lot when shopping to get an exra walk in. They never said anything about a pool. I think they did say those little "Barbie weights" are ok. The light ones that are only 1lbs or 2 lbs.

I predict your stomach will get much smaller in the next few weeks without exercise! Your body is still recovering and will start to get back to normal on it's own. I had C sections so had no desire to do ANY exercise! My stomach area continued to shrink anyway. After the dr approval at 8 weeks I went to a mild prenatal/post natal exercise class. With my first child I was back to normal (flat stomach) in 6 months with little exercise.

I started walking immediately (day 3), but I didn't "work out" till after my 6 month appointment.

After you stop bleeding, then I suggest doing things lightly. so go to the pool and swim some. If you start up with serious excersize, you can pull something. I know it's like that by c-section. Just do things lightly for a while. if you want to do that tred mill, don't push yourself. your body just went through some serious trama (yeah, having a baby is tramatizing for the body). I waited till my daugher was 6 months old, but that was because we went to the Y and I was overly protective of my baby and strangers and all.
Anyways, give the baby to family, or put the baby in a stroller and go for walks. Plus, ask your doctor before doing any excersize and see what she says.
