How Long Do You Swaddle??

Hi all...

I am a mother of two twin girls who are 10 weeks old. They are wonderful and we are so close to getting them to sleep through the night. We use the miracle blanket when they sleep at night and it basically gives them a very tight swaddle. I think that they sleep well because of the security that the swaddle gives them. My question is, how long do you swaddle them? With all the information about SIDS I don't want to just put them in the crib with a blanket however I don't want to have them get cold as winter approaches.

Ideas, information or suggestions are welcome!
Thanks
K.

I swaddled my daughter until she was about 6 months old. At one point she seemed to be unconfortable when swaddled so I just stopped. She's just recently turned 1 and I've been using wearable blankets. I really like the Halo ones.

Hi K.. I have 4 1/2 year old twin boys and we swaddled them until they were about 3 1/2 mos old, maybe a bit longer. You're doing great if your girls are almost sleeping through the night. Keep up the swaddling if it's working. Are you a member of the twins' club in your area? It's another great resourse. Good luck.

Hi K.,
I have a friend whose daughter is still swaddled (her arms) at 18 months and it works well for them. Makes me sorry I stopped the miracle blanket myself when I did, my son is a poor sleeper. Good luck.

Congrats on the twin girlies! I'm a mom to be of a little boy and iv been a nanny for twin girls since they were 2 weeks old and now there 8 months old! Personally the family and I agreed to stop swadling at 3 months give or take a week only because of the fact they start to move around and could get entangled in the blanket. That's the only thing I can say about swadling and good luck with your two girlies!!

I don't know if there is any "official" word on how long to swaddle. I think as long as your babies seem happy, go for it! My son made it clear when he didn't need it anymore...he fussed, squiggled, and cried until he broke free of it (I only swaddled him with a blanket). I thought he was too young to be done with it, so I kept trying. And he kept fussing! Once I put him to bed without a swaddle, he went to sleep much easier. To keep him warm I use the Halo sleep sack (I got mine at Babies R Us). It's like a wearable blanket you put on over their PJ's. They come in cotton knit and fleece styles. Both styles seem to keep my son plently warm. Good luck!

Our son is soon to be 6 months and we're still swaddling. He just doesn't seem to go to sleep without a fight unless we do.
