I bled for about 5-6 weeks with my daughter (my first pregnancy) and about 3 weeks with my son. I think you're ok, as long as it's still not heavy/clots.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

I had a c section four weeks ago and am still have some blood discharge and I'm trying to figure out if this is normal. It's not heavy but it just hasn't stopped. I don't remember bleeding this long with my first child, but I don't really remember how long I did.

HI! I'm an OB/GYN physician and it's normal to have bleeding/discharge for up to 6 weeks after delivery. Hope this helps!
I have had two c-sections. After my first son was born, I bleed for about 8 weeks. And with my second son, I didn't bleed as long. I think every women is different and I think with each pregnancy it is different.
You can have discharge up to 6 weeks. toatally normal. When you go in for your post natal check up just ask you doctor what to expect. If it is really concerning you then call his/her office and ask what is normal and they will tell you if you need an oppointment or not and usually only a 5 minute call at most.
Four weeks of vaginal discharge doesn't seem unusual. With my 2nd c-section (I have had three), I bled off and on for three months. Not usually very bright and not constantly, but I was really sick & tired of it. I did finally see the OB, and they did an ultrasound. I had some tissue left inside. I thought they might say we needed to do a D&C, but all that was necessary was to put me on birth control pills for a month, and that took care of it. I had TONS of milk, so it didn't affect breastfeeding at all. If I recall, I started a short course of the pill after about four weeks w/ my third baby too, just to quit bleeding. (Again, I don't think it affected milk production, but I would have been glad if it had -- I could have nursed twins!) The bleeding made me feel like an invalid; I just wanted to get over it! Each recovery was different, but my third was definitely the best. Something to ask your OB about.
Do you mean that you are having discharge from your incision? If you are and are concerned, then I would ask your doctor about it. Having said that, I was still needing bandages to cover my incision, and had even had trouble with a part of my incision on the end that had opened partially and I had a bit of discharge from it about a month afterward, so if it is lessening then I would think it's fine. If you're talking about vaginal discharge, then I would say it's perfectly normal. Since you didn't push, then you didn't get as much out during birth as you would have if you had delivered vaginally. I was still wearing pads a month afterward...so I wouldn't stress about that.
I've had two c-sections, and it was just starting to taper off at 4-5 weeks, I think. My friend, who has had 5 babies, told me that she would ALWAYS almost cancel her 6 week check up because she bled right up to the 6 week mark! You'd think a c-section wouldn't bleed as much, because they sort of clean you out while you're "open," but I think it just makes it not as heavy instead of not lasting as long.
I don't know, though, because I've only had c-sections.
I bleed til 7 weeks with my daughter and til after 6 weeks with my son. If you are considered call your dr. They told me if the blood got heavy, odory or I cramped bad to call them. Voth my babies were c-section. My daughter my placenta abruptted so i had a ton of bleeding before and after.
4 weeks is totally normal. I think I had bloody discharge for right about 6 weeks for both of my c-sections. I would only worry if it gets really heavy all of a sudden.
After my c-section, I was bleeding for 6 weeks. And then I got my period 3 months later. I would say that your bleeding is normal. If you have concerns, talk w your doctor.
Hi L.. I had four c-sections and yes, it is normal to be bleeding this long and longer. As long as it seems to be tapering off a little, I wouldn't worry about it for a few more weeks.
I bled for about 7-8 weeks after vaginal delivery. I was pretty sick of it by the end but my doctor assured me it was normal. I think she said 6 weeks was average.
Dont Fret. I can not deliver vaginally. Due for my second c-section in Janurary. Anyway, I bled 6 solid weeks. Doctor said it was perfectly normal. She also said it had more to do with pregnancy than the surgery. I guess they are all different. However, one of my friends who is exclusively holistic says that alfalfa tablets cut bleeding time dramatically. I did not take her advice, I may this time.
Hang in there.
I only bled for 3 weeks with my first 4 pregnancies and with these last 3 I did for the whole 6 weeks!!! You get a little tired of it. I think they say for the first 6 weeks it is pretty normal.
L., don't know about "normal", but i had a c-section this past summer and bled for almost 6 weeks...not constant, and it wasn't heavy after the first 3, but it continued off and on, also....bled more the more active i was during the day
i am sure your doc would tell you if there was anythign of concern.
Good luck with the new daughter
Hi L.,
You are fine. As long as it's not alot of bright red blood, don't worry about it. If the discharge is brownish or dark red, and not soaking a pad every hour or two, you are totally normal. I had 2 c-sections and bled for every bit of 6 weeks. Sometimes, I would go a day or two without any discharge then it would start again. If you are worried, just call you OB/GYN.
I was shorter than that with my first two, but closer to seven or eight weeks on and off with my third. My doctor wasn't at all concerned. All 3 were c-sections.
