Just wondering how many moms out there dye their hair how often and why. I dye my hair medium blonde once every 6-8 weeks. I do it because my hair is natural dark blonde and too many people mistake it for brown and i just want to lighten it up.

I henna my hair about every 6-8 weeks.
I have dark brown hair and the henna gives me a good chestnut color, covers my gray and gives me coppery highlights. It also makes my hair shine, makes it very manageable and doesn't fry my hair. If anything it makes it stronger. I have no split ends since I stopped using commercial dye about 8 years ago.
I mix up my henna mix with apple cider vinegar and it's great I can get a wonderful color without putting ammonia or other chemicals on my hair.

I just need to wash that gray right outta my hair. My hair grows fast so I do it about every 4-5 weeks. I have highlights put in it so I don't look like I'm wearing a brown football helmet.

I dye my hair every 6 weeks. I have dirty blonde hair that I dye light brown with a hint of red. I do this because both of my boys (3y and 6m) have a hint of red in their hair. They are the spitting image of my husband and everyone states that it's so obvious who the father is and go on and on about it. I got tired of everyone saying that my sons didn't look like me, so I added a little red to my hair. And now people say "I see where they got that red hair!" It makes me laugh inside everytime!!!

I don't dye my hair.
At least not yet.... once I start getting gray hairs, I will.... but probably in the same color as my natural hair color.

I don't dye/highlight... because it costs money.... ;(

I should dye mine every 5 weeks because my roots show, but I usually end up dying it every 7 or 8 weeks. Up until my late teens, my hair was honey blonde, then it turned to the color of dirty dishwater and I hated it. So I started dying it strawberry blonde, which I think compliments my skin tone a lot better and makes me look less washed out. I've had people make comments thinking it's my natural color, so I know doesn't look fake. I also have to get highlights 3 or 4 times a year to give it some contrast, because the color tends to build up and look flat after a while.

I love my style and I am not willing to change it. I am of Native American heritage and my hair is dark and straight. I wear it semi long and straight even cut.

So...since I don't play with style, I play with color. My hair is naturally very dark so I get a color about every 3 months or so which has a little red or a tone that brightens it up a it. I don't need et black hair and with a touch of color the right way, I can have it looking nice.

I have a 16 yr old and in summer she likes her hair lighter and in winter she wears it darker like mine.

We do it be cause we like it. I see nothing wrong with doing something that makes you feel better about yourself.

I do mine every 3-4 months. Which is when I get it cut as well. I change mine with the season's. Lighter in the summer, redder in the fall and dark in the winter. I do it because I like to change my hair and I feel it keeps me fresh and trendy and it makes me feel pretty.

I've been coloring my hair since HS! Just for FUN back then, I've been every shade under the sun (well not pink/blue/green you get it LOL) I 'think' my natural color would be a mousy brown :-( YUCK who wants that?? not this chic!! I have it done every 6 weeks due to GRAY hair :-( I get highlights too (2 to 3X a year) and always feel SO MUCH BETTER ABOUT MYSELF when my hairs done :-) It's all about feeling good about yourself !!!

I dye my hair every 3 months or so - it's brown with reddish highlights (not counting the grey). The grey makes me look faded and tired. When I color it, my whole face peps up. I'd rather look peppy than tired :)

Like SH, I don't dye either. I have strawberry blonde hair and many people over the years have told me it is a beautiful color. I am all about au natural! Once you put chemicals on your hair, it will never return to its original color. My hair has gotten darker now that I am older, and not as much 'strawberry' as it used have, but God gave it to me so I will keep it. :o)

I'm a stylist, so I can color my hair myself. If I have the time and money, I do a lot of blonde highlighting about every 6 weeks, I usually go to someone to do this for me though.

On times when my funds are low and I want a low maintenance, but pretty look that I can do myself, I stay with my light brown color, but I add in a few caramel color highlights and dark low lights. It looks very natural and pretty, but I can literally go maybe 3-5 months with it looking great, because it still looks good with my natural color and it fades and grows out very gracefully.

So, the frequency of color depends on the shade, and how much work is done so that the regrowth isn't noticeable..

I have dark blonde hair with ashy green and silver highlights LOL yes... green and silvery blonde highlights naturally. I hate it. The vivid shades of red I choose fits my personality much better, as well as my fair skin and blue eyes.

Due to red fading quickly, I dye it at least every 5-6 weeks.

I have naturally darkest brown hair although lots of people call it black. I have been going grey since my early 20s. I'm now 41 and the top is equally 'salt and pepper' and the back is dark with a few greys here and there. I used to color it my natural color just to cover the grey. I still color it, but now I mix a dk brown and med brown so it is a less harsh color. I feel that as I age the dkst brown/black is too much contrast to my light olive skin. I also have more reasons for coloring it now. My husband is seven years younger than I, I have lots of grey and dont want to look 41, and my biggest reason--- one of my students mothers asked if my twin girls were my GRANDDAUGHTERS!!!!!!!!!

I color my hair with foil highlights at the salon about every 3-4 months. I do it because when I was younger I was blonde and as I age it turned a mousy shade of brown, I once tried dying my hair a pretty dark brown, but it did not flatter with my skin coloring, so I foil with pretty blonde highlights and lowlights with subtle shades of copper.

I dye my hair a rich dark brown almost black about every two months when I get it cut. I used to be able to dye it more often but when I moved my hair dyeing buddy did not come with me :( ... Since I was 20 (thanks dad) I started going grey and I can not stand it! I do go darker than my natural hair color because I like it better and so does my man! I like to have as polished and put together look as possible for myself and one of those ways is to keep my hair in good/pretty condition.

I dye (or highlight) my hair every 8-12 weeks. used to be every 6-8 weeks until I started touching up my roots (every 3-4 weeks) on my own to try and get a few more weeks before paying to have it done again. expensive! but anyway, the ONLY reason i get my hair done so often is because i have gray hair. if i didn't have grays i would probably go natural and do some light highlights.

I dye my hair whenever I get bored with the color. I've been doing it for about 5 years or so. I tend to go darker, because "everyone" wants to be a blond, and I like to be different. Plus I tried blond once, and it made me look all washed out. I've dyed it natural brown, chestnut brown, and black (for Halloween), but my favorite and current color is chocolate raspberry truffle. As a matter of fact, I'll be doing the roots this weekend.

I do mine about every 3 months. I've been going gray since college and whenever I notice them alot I get a bottle of hair color. I'm thinking in the next couple of years (I just turned 30) I may decide to let it just do it's own thing.

I am a natural dark brunette but in real life I am a golden blond. Started dying hair to get it thicker (bleach will thicken hair) and then because it looked good, now I have been doing it for years and cannot go back because my DH knows me as blond and says that it will be way to strange so see me otherwise! I do my hair often and in different layers (roots more often, highlights every 3-4 mo) it is too much work to keep up the hair looking natural blond when you are a dark brunette (sometimes I do touch ups at home in between). I do it because I have not figured out what to do with it yet - it grows and I just do what I always did...

i dye mine every 3-6 months sometimes once a year. i just do it because i get bored of having the same color for too long and still trying to find a better hair color for my skin tone. also my hair grows fast so my roots start coming in and i don't like how it looks! i heard from varies hair stylist that it's not healthy for your hair to dye it before 6 months though. just trim it every4/5 months too and don't do it with hair dye from the store, go to a salon.
