Over the counter meds can react with other medications.
I'd be very careful.
Not everyone goes on Zoloft forever.
In many cases 6 months to a year is enough and by then your brain chemistry has achieved a new balance and you don't need the medication anymore.
It depends on why your chemistry is out of kilter in the first place.
Have your thyroid levels (TSH, free T3 and T4) been tested?
Erratic moods (nervous, antsy, on edge) can be a sign of hyperthyroidism.
If it is something like that, then the condition causing the symptom has to be addressed otherwise Zoloft (or anything over the counter) will not help much and you will be taking it forever.

FYI - herbal remedies are drugs. OTC herbal rememdies have side effects and can damage organs just like prescribed medications do. The difference is prescribed meds have been tested and there is documented evidence related to what the possible side effects are. herbal remedies are not tested in large groups and you may not know what the side effects are until it is too late. Just because something is labeled natural or comes from nature does not mean that it is good for you or safe for you to take. Also, many prescribed drugs come from natural sources.
To name a few, opiods a narcotic pain reliever comes from a plant, many insulins come from pig to name just a couple.'

Just because you take zoloft during a time in your life when you may need help with your moods does not mean that you will be on it for the rest of your life. Often you are weaned off at some point in your treatment.

Good LUck, hope you feel better soon.

Do you mean St Johns Wort? I use this all the time, takes about a week to work, and then my mood lifts. It really does work

I went to the health food store to get Sam-E and the staff warned about the interaction with sunlight - since we are in TX and it was almost summer . . . instead we went with a b-complex based supplement. SO, my advice is to to into the healthfood store and talk to a sales person there, explain to them what you want and what products/supplements are available - they are well versed in side effects (at least at my shop they are) and should ask or at least warn you of side effects.
Note - St. John's Wort does interfere with birth control efficacy. Since we are on a site for mommies - thought you should be aware, but my mom swears by it.
Best,

Sam-e works quicker but is kind of pricy. Google dr oz's show on depression and "natural" remedies.
