Taking a poll....

How many times do you eat take out a week? This includes breakfast, lunch & dinner for you, your spouse, or any children that you would purchase the meal for (I remember as a teen going out all the time! But it was on my dime:))

I'm trying to compare our expenses to prove a point- HA! yep. to my husband.

Thanks All!

Week?
More like one, MAYBE 2 times a month.
My husband might get a bagel at work in the morning more often than that.
But I (and my daughter) never get fast food or take out unless it's dinner with the family.
And we only do that one or two times a month.

Gosh, not even once per week, normally! Maybe a couple times a month! For health and money reasons! One of the many things we made a conscience decision about in order for me to be a stay at home mom! & we rarely went out when I was a kid...5 kids, all in Catholic schools, my mom worked part-time when we were older, but still, only occasionally!
Oh, & my husband brings lunch to work everyday and has for years!

I would say on average 1 night per week - and that is usually ordering a pizza. Usually, I make dinner. It is MUCH more cost effective!

Not once per week.

Usually about once per month.

When you really add up the expense, it is usually far more than you realize, and most often times not worth it. When you use it as a treat for yourself rather than "I am too tired to cook" or "Fridays we just eat out", it means more!

um wow you guys make me feel bad about myself haha..we get takeout or pick up food probably 3 or 4 times a week. I have two small kids who take up all of our time and energy, and most nights or on the weekends it's just much easier to pick something up than try to cook with them hanging off of my legs :)

We eat out for lunch every Sunday after church and maybe once a week after that. We have been cutting back lately due to finances. We have been known to eat out way to much when we get lazy about cooking but it gets expensive.

It depends.. sometimes it's really just cheaper to pick some to-go food up than spend money on a meal.. probably like twice a week.. whether it's dollar menu lunch for me and husband or Chili's to go for a dinner for the family. Sometimes more sometimes less.. it's an affordable luxury that we enjoy.

We probably eat out once every 2 or 3 weeks - and get take-out about once a week. But take out can mean anything from a $15 pizza to $40 of chinese food. We rarely buy breakfast or lunch out - it cost about $1 - $2 to make those meals at home so it's jsut crazy to buy it out. In NY its' super quick to get a bacon and egg on a roll at a delie - but it's $4 and cost less than $1 to make. Even breakfast at a diner is now $50 for the 4 of us!!! I even make my own coffee since I prefer my own and I probably save about $30 - $40 a week doing so.

Finally, I'd rather have burgers, grilled chicken or meatloaf at home most nights so I can enjoy other things that cost money. And now that my kids are clothing conscious and I can't shop for them at Target anymore I have to contain costs somewhere!!!

Our family goes out about once a month for dinner.
But since I am a SAHM, I often buy lunch on-the-go when we are in town running errands. So maybe 3 days a week do I buy a burger or corn dog or something from the deli at the grocery store - for my son, sometimes for me. Sometimes I wait till I get home to eat. Husband takes leftovers for lunch daily.

Never. Really. Well, once every month or two we get pizza or Chinese, but that's it. I cook our dinners, lunches are brown bagged. My kids are 12 and 16. The 16 may sometimes go out for Starbucks or pizza with friends, but that's her own expense.

We eat out, as a family, maybe 2x per month. That is way up from a couple of years ago, when we would eat out (back then it was just hubs & I), maybe 1x per every 3 months. We are financially better off now, so we splurge a bit more with the 2x per month eating out. For work, I eat out lunch maybe once per every 3 months; DH eats out maybe 1x per week, if that (it might be 1x per every other week, depending on his work schedule).

Moving to a place like where we live (with boring restaurants, not good food, or good food but very expensive) helps the budget because you just don't go out as much. :) We used to eat out a couple times a week (Lebanese, Indian, Thai, Tex Mex, Greek, BBQ, etc) but now.....eh. We'll eat Chinese maybe once every month or two. Once every few months when we make a trip out of town, we'll stop and get Indian food while there, that kind of thing. Very rare. All in all, one of us or all of us may eat out once every week or two. Now it's more like a"it's that time of the month and I really want a chile relleno NOW" kind of thing.

At most... once a week. Friday night is my "husband's night" to figure out dinner. If he doesn't want to cook, he'll pick up something. We keep it under $20 though. Other than that, I love cooking so no take out here!

The most expensive meals you will ever eat are those prepared (or partially prepared) for you by someone else. Chef's were involved in making lean cusine, stoffer's lasanga, Red Baron Pizza, Whopper, Big Mac. Red Robin, Black Angus, Hamburger Helper, Rice-A-Roni, etc.

We eat out occasionally. We average once per month, occasionally twice. I get coupons in the mail for restaurants and I save those coupons. I usually put them in the car so if we are doing something and just don't feel like cooking, we use a coupon. We got two whoppers the other day for less than $2 ($1 each). I bought tacos from Del Taco (29 cents) because they were having a customer appreciation day. We brought them home and put additional lettuce and added tomatoes to them. They were a nice break.

I'm guessing we spend less than $10 per month for the entire year on eating out. Why? First, I don't go to restaurants to eat what I can cook better at home myself. Second, my wife and I like cruising. We spend our "going out to eat" money on buying a cruise. If you figure how much money you would spend if you went out to eat at a 4* or 5* restaurant twice per month, you have paid for a 7-day cruise for two and they have several 4* and 5* restaurants to choose from. You'll get 42 meals if you eat all your meals on the ship.

Its all a matter of choice. Money is like time . . . you can only spend it once. So be choosy on how you spend it.

Good luck to you and yours.

Our family eats out or gets take out at least 10 times per week including lunches and dinners. Our kids are older (14 and 11) and with their activities all over the city and my husband and I working full time out of the home (and I work late and a lot), we have a hard time making dinner at home. I would like to reduce how often we eat out but with our very busy lives, it's just not feasible.

My husband is in sales so he buys his lunch every day (or tries to!). As a family we eat out usually on the weekends for one meal each day, like lunch Sat and Sun. On the weekends hubby and I have to ourselves with no kids, we eat out usually more, like Friday night, Saturday either lunch/dinner or both and Sunday after church for lunch. We are able to do that and spend the money because I get major deals every time I shop and refuse to pay full price for anything! So that allows us more meals out and activities that some others can't do.

We (just hubby and I) go out for a real sit down dinner about once or twice a month.
I might bring home a pizza or Chinese food twice a month as well.
If I'm running errands and haven't eaten anything I will sometimes pick up a burrito from taco bell or a burger from burger king, about once a week (though yesterday I treated myself to Chipotle, yum!)

My DH probably eats in the cafeteria once a week. We usually pack him a lunch. We eat out a couple of times a month, but it really varies. It's not a routine thing. Last week we got subs for my family when they were visiting and this week I got Wendy's with Mom when I took her to the doctor, but we have no plans for the coming weeks for take-out or dining out. We usually dine out as a family for occasions, like birthdays and holidays.

My husband and I work from home so most of our lunches are dining out so we step away from the office. We LOVE Market Street.. you can get a great salad, soup or hot meal and we are there a lot.

As for dinner, we probably dine out 3+ times, especially on weekends. It depends on what we have going on at the time and our schedule.

I also cook a lot.

My husband does take-out at work about twice a month. He works a lot of hours and doesn't have time to leave the building for lunch. I work in a home-based business. I have 2 networking luncheons a month.
As a family (I have 2 sons in college - one who lives at home and one who goes away to college) we eat out once or twice a month. It is just too expensive. I love to cook at home (I am a Pampered Chef cons.) and we eat at home as a family 5 nights a week.

I would have to say that we may eat out 1-2 times a month, our tummies can't handle take-out very well! We always get sick with an upset stomach or something. Thankfully our children aren't that big on eating out either, well maybe my 3 year old lol! But then again, last month was an extremely busy month so I think we did take out about 4 time's.. I feel bad when I do get take out only because I find my children running to the bathroom!

It depends. Typically, we eat some sort of take out about 2x per week. (The kids have karate classes from 5:30-7:30, so I'm not home to cook). Often we will eat one dinner out on the weekend. If hubby golfs, he will usually get a meal out with his golf buddy either at the clubhouse or for something like 5 Guys.

Lately we have been driving an hour away to help out in-laws with moving/remodeling and end up being gone all day long, so we have eaten out lunch and dinner on Saturday a few weekends this past month. And when one of us is ill, we go pick up whatever we are craving to make us feel better. (We had food poisoning Monday, so this week in particular is a BAD week to ask numbers, lol).

Oh, and hubby takes his lunch to work, so no cafeteria or "business" lunches for him.

My husband eats his lunch at his company's cafeteria five days per week. I'm not sure if you consider that eatting out - it is not expensive, I think it is like $4 daily. He does it because that is the corporate culture - everyone eats there from the President to the janitor.

As a family, we almost never eat out unless on vacation. We either have Chinese take out or order pizza once a week or less.

As a teen, I went out to Pizza Hut and McDonalds with friends pretty frequently - but it was on my own dime as well and I started working when I was 12 (babysitting).

Cheers,
C.

Depends on what our $$ looks like for the next two weeks.

My kids and I do McDonald's on paydays....If they are good while out doing our payday errands i.e. Grocery store, health food store and target(sometimes more or less). When they blow it I get to pick out where we eat....Normal that is Jimmy Johns...Just about the best Sub place on the face of the earth:)

We only eat out as a family if we have had a weird day....and I am either too beat...or outta time to cook.
