Very interesting answers! We have a Basic and Essentials BCBS. We pay 750 a month, no copays but no pharmacy benefit, no ambulance, no chemo, the list goes on and on. There are limits to what they pay, like only 600 dollars a year per person for office visits and NO out of network benefits. So far it's covered everything except my husband's ambulance. But you can negotiate that...

Nothing. It's part of my benefit package.

$700 seems very low, but you don't state what it covers, the co-pays or the deductibles, it makes a huge difference.

S., I'm an insurance agent in AZ, you can't compare your coverage to anyone elses. Its based on your ages, coverages, health history, area you live in and many other factors. If you want to know if its comparable to others in your area, then find an independent agent to quote you with several companies and then you can compare. Good luck.

If I were to be on my hubbies insurance through his work,it would be about $1500 a month( that is just to add me). To add the kids it would be another $400 a months.

Take home a month is only $2700....and out rent is 1200. Plus monthly living expense's.....so $1900 a month for Healthcare is just INSANE.

My kids thank god have State care.

My husband's is free.

I go without.

Yikes that is so high! Our family has blue cross blue shield and we pay 220 for a family of 4 and that covers medical, dental, and vision. We pay 20 a doctor visit, 100 for emergencies, and 20% if we go to a doctor not on our insurances preferred list. I don't know if it available in your area, but I would call around. 700 is more then a car payment!

Almost $200 per pay check for my husband to cover three of us. He gets paid EVERY week, so that's $800 per month. Our co-payments for doc's visits are anywhere from $30-$50, depending on the kind of doctor. Our co-pays on prescriptions are generally $50 - especially if we don't want generic which is most of the time. My daughter's inhaler is $50, nasal spray $50, emergency room visit copay is like $100, hospital procedure copay is $250 - you get the idea. We can spend easily $15,000 per year in out of pocket for health and pretty minimal dental coverage.

When I started planning to leave my job to move across the country , I hadn't yet found a new job and didn't know how long I'd be without insurance. I called HR and found that it would have been $1400 a month to keep my son and I on through COBRA. Yikes!

Yes that included vision and dental, and outrageously good prescription coverage and no copays... but still...

Insurance is expensive.

We own our own company and right now it is just myself, hubby and 16 yr old daughter. We pay in the neighborhood of $1125/month which does not include dental or vision.

Dental is a waste if you think about it because it is so expensive and the only perk you get with it is the 2/yr cleanings. if you need actual work, most policies only cover 50% at most for work. We have a great dentist and we opt to go without the dental and if we need any work, we pay his cash discount. He loves it because he does not have to deal with an insurance company and he knows we pay on the spot.

Our medical/health policy itself is basic and our deductible is $15,000/yr which we would never hit. Therefore, everytime we go to the Dr., we pay in full and then the amount is filed for our deductible. The good part of it is that we are fully covered for any expenses such as an accident, sickness, disability, etc. We also pay a side policy for about $100/school year accident only for our daughter because she is a cheerleader and it has perks for student athletes.

Thankfully, we are a healthy family and we have not been out a lot of extra expenses.

In the event that we hire someone, the way our insurance is set up is that we would pay 100% of any employee coverage, pretty nice perk if you ask me.

Insurance costs are crazy!

My individual insurance policy has increased twice in the past 8 months, and is now about $450 a month, with a $6,000 yearly deductible, and exclusions for all lung problems. No dental or vision coverage.

This is nearly half my paycheck, and I'm struggling to keep up my premiums just so I don't become a burden to society. But honestly, I'd dump this outrageous expense in a minute if there were any other options. My insurer has yet to pay one cent toward my medical bills, and I've paid tens of thousands of dollars for this do-nothing policy over the past 25 years.

I get your outrage. You can probably hear that I'm pretty angry, too. And I've just been diagnosed with a potentially blinding illness that's going to cost me a bunch over the next couple of years. But MAYBE I'll exceed my crazy deductible by the end of this year, because surgery will probably be involved. Lucky me.

Non-group policies are generally quite a bit higher than group plans, and include exclusions for pre-existing conditions, because individuals have no bargaining power with the insurance companies. My agent told me outright that private insurance helps subsidize the relatively cheaper cost of group policies. Thanks, for-profit insurance companies!

2 years ago we paid $354 a week for just 2 of us. :( That had NO co pay. This last year we took the lowest plan they had not sure what we are paying but needed the better plan for medical reasons. We did learn however that we can get just about ALL of our RX's at Costco Pharmacy Cheaper by paying CASH than submitting them through insurance!!!!! AND you do NOT need a membership to go to the Pharmacy!!!!!!

Wow! Sounds like a bargain! We pay around $1200/month for just my son and I, and that's with some contribution from the company. I think next year it's even going to be more. However, insurance in NY is outrageously high.

$117 roughly per month for medical and dental for a family(doesn't matter is it 3 people or seven people) but the medical deductible is $2650 per person for the first two (so $5300). We never hit that-pretty healthy family (knock on wood) and the one nice thing is it covers preventative before the deductible so the would be a flu shot, a checkup, mammogram-that kind of thing.
This is coverage through my work. My husband is self employed and when we were on our own, it was $3600 a year-I don't remember the deductible.

$450/mo for a family of 4....but we have a $3,000 deductible. We have no co-payment, we just pay the entire visit until we hit that 3k. After that BCBS will pick up 90%. My daughter just had to go to the ER a week ago for bronchitis (saw pedi in the office during regular hours but he was an enormous a**hole and sent us to ER).....SO, we've met our 3k deductible after that visit! I've been needing an MRI, might as well get it now!! That's the only silver lining to our ER visit!

We pay next to nothing because we use my husband's retirement insurace...Tricare isn't the best, but it works and it's very affordable. If we were to take it from either of our jobs, it would be about $600 a month for our family.

I pay all well care out of pocket because my insurance had a $3,000 deductible. My employer pays for the actual insurance.

I used to have the PPO, with that a family pays $300 a month and the employer picks up the rest. It was $140 a month for single.

The problem you are going to find is what is a bargain in one state is a rip off in another. I wouldn't consider any answers that are not from people in your state, like me. :) Missouri is on the low side for insurance costs. NY and Cali are on the high side.

we pay about $500/mo for family coverage. i used to work at an HR company and deal a lot with other companys' health benefits. prices range so much it's crazy. some who only pay $100/mo for family and other companies are $1k+ for family. crazy. the sad thing is when the healthcare reform goes through, employers are going to be charging more. ugh! i don't like exchanges and my husband's company is doing it early to be "cutting edge" and our prices are increasing about $2k/year. oh well.

335.00 per month for family of 5 - Med, dental and vision. 1,000 family deductible (med), 20% copay. Very good compared to the average. It's a broken system, and the consumer *us, as well as companies are having to pay more and more for the coverage.

My premium is $450 a month deducted from my paycheck. That's only 25% of the premium and my employer picks up the rest, so my plan is actually $1800 a month. That covers 6 of us but it would cost the same if there were as few as 3 in my family.

$860 for medical (PPO) for a family of four (Blue Cross/Blue Shield).
$66 for dental for a family of four.

That is what I pay. The school district I work for contributes about $200 a month.
