Thanks everyone for your responses. My son loves his juice boxes. He's been having extra since he had a sore throat and cough. I only give him 100% or fruitables. No high fructose corn syrup or sugar. he eats fresh fruit and veggies. he loves milk. not too thrilled with water. just wanted to see how other moms felt about juice.

When mine were little they drank: none. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Totally unnecessary and usually full of calories and added high fructose corn syrup to boot.
At age 12, my oldest now gets an applejuice sometimes in the lunch line at school (7th grade). My youngest, age 9, still doesn't care for any of it.

Neither of my kids drank juice at 3, and they still don't at 7 & 8. They eat fruit or smoothies and might get a glass of juice as a breakfast treat every couple months or so.

None unless they were sick. The it was either oj or diluted apple juice. At 5 and 6 both kids prefer water or milk over juice.

don't notice the brand, only care if its 100% fruit juice. We go in trends. Sometimes its 2-3 juice boxes a week. But right now I'm not buying it, so we are on a no juice trend.

My 3 year old doesn't drink juice - he's all milk or water. I know there is 'good' juice, but the vast majority of it is simply a sugar bomb in a glass and empty calories without nutritional value.

None. I didn't offer and they didn't ask. I think they eventually ran across orange juice and mango juice and apple juice once they were school age-ish. But even at 5 & 9...They drink juice very rarely.

NONE daily. Drinking juice is not very good for them, since it has a lot of sugar. Sure it is natural sugar, but still. Eating fruit is much better than juice, since it also has the natural fiber.
I do give my 3yo a small glass (up to 4 oz) maybe once or twice a week AT MOST. The ped said it should only be an occasional treat. Only give 100% juice, no 'fruit drinks' or 'juice drinks' that are less than 100%. Any brand is fine, it really depends on preference and cost. We do drink the 100% V8 kind since it has veggie juice also. You can water it down a bit to make it go further and have less sugar.

My son drinks maybe 1 glass every other week, and it is always watered down. Juice just isn't his thing (neither is fruit, but that's another story). Our "treat" in our house is chocolate milk. He gets that about once a day.

My kids are 3 & 5 and they have a glass (4oz about) of juice 2-3 a week, usually Juicy Juice brand. I give them milk at meals and water for all other times. I bought water bottles at wal-mart that are 18 oz. and my kids will drink one each day or more. Push water, not juice, it is so much better for them.

Fruitables or Tropicana w/ Calcium (with water added). She only drinks at most 6 oz of watered juice a day (approx 4oz juice). Usually at dinner, but sometimes with her mid-afternoon snack.
Fruitables are nice because they have no added sugars - just juice and vegatables which have water added so I can just give my daughter the juice box.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and she gets 2 cups of 4oz of juice and 4oz H2O a day. I only give her V8 V Fushion (not the lite) 100% juice because it's veggie and fruit juice. I have a hard time getting veggies in her so I use that as a couple of servings of fruit and veggies a day.

My kids drink the V8 V Fusion ... you need to be careful when you buy juice and make sure that the label says 100% juice otherwise it's just a fruit drink and has more sugar than juice.

Our 5-year-old rarely drinks juice, and when she does, I water it down w/ water. Instead, she drinks organic milk, organic choc. milk or water. No sense in adding any extra calories/sugar w/ the juice. Just my opinion.

My kids don't drink juice, but every once in a while, like for a birthday or holiday, I'll let them have some apple juice or cider, usually watered down. Sometimes they will sip off of orange juice from an adult, or have a small amount when they have a sore throat, but we really don't keep juice in the house. My boys are 2 and almost 4. My husband thinks I'm an "anti-juice freak," but I just don't see the nutritional point and have seen too many kids addicted to juice over water and/or milk. I remind him I don't mind it as a treat. If you are going to offer juice, it really shouldn't be more than one serving per day of 100% fruit juice, watered down if possible. Double check with your pediatrician though if you're not sure. My ped. recommends 21 years old to start juice. =)
UPDATE:
I was thinking fruit juice, but I like drinking low sodium V8 once in a while, and my 4 year old begs for it, so I do let him have a short, probably 4 or 5 oz. cup of it once in a while. :)

Our 3 year old is not much of a milk drinker, so we get the Minute Maid Kids O.J. that has calcium added. We dilute it 50/50 and she gets usually 2 (sometimes 3 cups) a day, mostly in the morning. She also drinks a lot of water the rest of the day, and will drink milk if it has a microscopic drop of chocolate in it as a treat. She does not get any other juice otherwise. And she is really good about getting her teeth brushed, which happens twice a day. And I ran all this past the pediatrician, and she said it was fine.

About 1 juice box every few days. I only have it for my son's preschool snack, but we don't have it at home, and will probably even phase that out to bottled water. The rare occasions I do have it here (like birthdays), it's watered down 50/50.
The brand I use is Nestle Juicy Juice, it's the one I've found with the lowest sugar and higher *actual* fruit juice that isn't from concentrate, but I'm sure there are healthier ones out there, so I'll be on the lookout.

My son doesn't drink milk, so we usually make up an allocation of calcium-fortified orange juice for the day that's about 6 oz of juice and 6 oz of water. We tell him that's all he gets for the day and once it's done, it's done.
Right now, however, he is battling a cold, so we are a little more lenient with the orange or cranberry juice just so that he gets more fluids and the extra vitamin C.

mostly none for my 3 year old. I do not drink milk so we get the expensive oj with all the good stuff in it so once in a while I let him have some of this. Otherwise milk only. My son who is 6 gets Fruitables with his lunch for school, but otherwise he gets only milk as well. I hate milk so wanted to make sure that my kids liked it!

With most American's overweight or even obese I find it funny that so many moms (who may be overweight themselves) are talking about calories for a 3 year old. If your child has a weight problem then of course they should not have juice. But why is 1-2 cups of 100% juice (especially if they are fortified with calcium or vitamins) such a big deal? I bet you there are a lot of moms who give their kids nasty chemical laden drinks and even soda at that age that didn't answer. Some kids like my son can't or wont drink milk. Milk has lots of sugar in it and many studies have found that its not that healthy. Milk is used to fatten up young calves...lets talk about calories! Everything in moderation is my thinking and try to give your kids organic if possible.

We don't have juice except on very rare occasions. They drink water. Juice is empty calories and mostly sugar (even if "naturally" sweet). If they want fruit juice, get it from the whole fruit, where they will be getting fiber with it. Juice leads to cavities and lack of real nutrition.

At 3 I couldn't afford milk boxes ($2 for 10 Juicy Juice boxes, versus $15 per 10 milk boxes priced milk boxes out when he was a toddler). So he drank several juice boxes every day we didn't stay home, and maybe 1 a day if we did stay home. We were out an about quite a bit and he's hypoglycemic. I couldn't keep milk fresh in the car, so Juice and cheese were our standbys. In general we'd leave with 24oz of milk , and that would get downed in about an hour (at 3 he was drinking about 1/2 gallon of milk each day), and then it was essentially 1 box of juice per hour + cheese.
Juicy Juice was our standby, OJ on saturday with bacon & eggs, POG once a week with my mum.

We only buy 100% juice and a serving for a 3 year old is about 3/4 cup of juice a day. The rest of the recommended fruit needs to come from actual fruit.
My kids refuse milk, so it's juice and water for them! Juice is ALWAYS diluted with 1/2 water and is no sugar added (brands, meh).
My 4 year old must drink at least 4 glasses of fluids per day or she gets restless leg syndrome at night (we found THAT out the very hard way!). So a minimum of 4 glasses, usually juice.
