How Much to Pay for Daycare

I have been interviewing for daycare in my home or to take to someone's home and the money question always comes up. Some people ask me what they feel they should be paid. I don't like answering b/c it is akward, but business is business. I was wondering what some of the moms out there pay or get paid. It would be for a newborn and a 2 year old 1 day a week about 9 hours or so. It is harder b/c it is only 1 day. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

Here's what I was charging, and if it's only for 1, 2 or 3 days a week, it's simply what you charge.

$45 for infant - 1 yr per day
$40 for 1-2
$35 for 2-3
30 for 3-4

I wouldn't take anyone that i had to pickup/dropoff because too much liability involved, but we did take trips to the park and cosley zoo, willowbrook, etc. In my contract (you should have a written and signed contract, even for friends) I stated that I'd charge in advance for any trips involving cost (like Dupg Children's Museum), but in the end i never did charge them, just because between the two siblings I was watching I was making $70 a day. I would give a $5 discount after adding the two age-group prices together... I'd love to do it again, but I do find it difficult w/ the parents coming into my home, expecting a montessori setup or a daycare center type of thing, and what i've got is a HOME, we start dinner at 430 here everyday, and if the children were still here I'd ask the parents if okay to eat w/ us (the father of my last set of kids was always late but never wanted them to eat dinner here which made it very difficult for them, and hard on my kids to hear them crying and carrying on, me trying to placate AND feed my kids...). Being a care provider for children is wonderful experience I loved it so much, sad when my familymoved to CA, but you need to remember it's not just about the $, there are so many variables and you need to have a contract with your friend/family whoever you are watching. If you'd like a copy of mine, let me know and I'll email it to you. :) Good luck darlin, and especially with your surprise bun in oven! N

I am licensed and accrediated and certified K-9 teacher. I am in home and charge $47 a day( use to be $45) just raised rates for 7am-5:30 pm for ages 1-4. For ages 0-6 months is is $62 a day and 6 months to 1 year $57 per day. If the child is full time M-F it is $235 a week.

Part timers pay more - $53 a day for 1-3 and more for 0-1 years. I do ask for some personal/paid days( 5) per contract year and my full timers pay me for like 4 holidays.
I offer preschool program for an additional $7 a week. 5 days a week 2 hours a day if not more.

I am in Lombard. You can call the YWCA in Glen Ellyn and ask them the going rates too. they will tell you the average.

Hi E., I am a licensed childcare provider. You probably will pay a little more to have care for just one day, because that would prevent a provider from filling a full time slot. My full time daily fee is $35, however, my part time daily rate is $45 per child. Eventhough your children will only be in daycare for 1 day per week, you should make sure that they are getting all of the mental and physical stimulation that they need for the nine hours that they are in someone's care. Good Luck with your search!
