How Much to Pay Someone to Move Your Car

I would offer her half of what the moving company quoted you. She was going to take the trip anyways, but she's still doing you a huge favor. If she can save you half of what you would have had to pay and she can get $400 help with gas and incidentals on a trip she was already going to make then you can call it a good deal for everyone involved.

I agree with Dyreka.....You know that the car will be taken better care of, you will be saving 400.00 so it's a win, win for you both. Unless of course the relative doesn't seem to think it's right.......make sure someone has insurance to cover the car and her..........either yours or hers or both........just on the off chance something happens.

How will she be getting back home? You should definetly offer to cover that cost for her. In addition to that, I would offer her at least $100.

I would give her half of her total expenses for the trip.

Calculate the cost of filling your car up and I would multiply that by four because for a 2000 mile trip she may have to fill up at leapt that many times. So if it would normally cost you 50 to fill up then give her 200 for gas and maybe another 100 for doing it for you if you are on a budget.

How is she getting back? If she has to pay for a flight, gas, hotels she will be up to the $800 in know time. Is something really she wants to do for fun? If so $400 does sound reasonable.

Pay for half of what it would cost her to just drive you car there:
1) Cost of gas +
2) Driving time ($7.25 x 28 hrs) +
3) cost of cheap hotel for one night +
4) plane ticket home +
5) flight time ($7.25 x 4 hrs) +
6) food allowance for 6 meals

I would give her $500 to do the trip. That will be plenty for gas, some extra for sight seeing and possibly a bit left over for her trip home. It looks like she is just looking for a bit of a getaway so you do not have to pay for everything. In short, you get your car to its location, your relative gets a little vacation partially paid for and all is good.

One thing I would double check is what you expect from her in the event of an accident with damage to your car or her. Make sure you both are clear on who's insurance will cover it, who pays the deductible, where the liability lies, etc.

I would have her put all of the gas on one card for you to pay, give her a couple of hundred for her trouble, and pay to get her home if need be.

After you make sure she is adequately insured or that your insurance would cover her driving, I would find out what the cost of a return flight would be and offer her that amount. I would also offer to pay for the gas for the trip. If she was planning to take this sightseeing trip, then she was probably already planning to pay for hotels and meals along with way.

IMHO you don't need to offer her money for gas. The fact is she is using your vehicle. There will be 'wear & tear' on it from the long road trip which is an intangible expense to you. She is getting a steal of a deal, as are you!
