I would rinse it out most days and add conditioner to de-tangle. Most food will rinse out with plain water. Use shampoo for grease or when her hair is actually dirty 2-3 times a week.
My 15 month old daughter has really long thick hair, that gets in everything! No matter how I pull it back or what I put on it, she gets food in it. So I end up washing her hair almost every night. Some nights I use a wash cloth and wipe it but most nights it's a full wash. How often do you ladies wash your toddlers hair? Is there a nother way to keep it clean? Oh, I'm not cutting her hair so no suggesting that! LoL

My daughter has really long thick hair, too. We used to wash it every night when she had lots of food in it. Now she's three and we usually do it twice a week. Every night it gets rinsed, though.
I wash my son's hair every night.
At least every other night.
There were times, we washed it every night, and then as she got older and was less prone to getting it so dirty, we washed it every other day.
You are like us, you live in a humid, hot area.. our daughter would sweat in the heat.. we also have lots of dust and pollen.. she had asthma, so we had to wash it.
Wash it as often as you feel it needs to be washed.
when they are babies.. they get food in their hair every day..s o the hair is yucky.. needs washed.. after age 2 or 3 they stay cleaner..
Every night.
My son's hair wasn't long but a toddler gets into a lot during the day and washing up was part of our routine.
At that age, most of the time we did bath as soon as we got home from daycare.
Is her hair long enough to braid, or put in pig tails?

My son's hair was like weekly mostly to clean the scalp. Being a boy less issues there I guess. However you could try Dry Shampoo. Also there are tons of little girl hair tutorials on YouTube for fun styles that can help keep the hair at bay.
Too bad you don't like the look of your daughter in a sweet little bob. My girls looked absolutely PRECIOUS that way and it was super easy to clean and brush. Most days it was just a sprinkling of baby wash and/or detangler (in the bath, and fully rinsed) a comb and we were on our way.
Since you insist on long hair I guess you're stuck washing it and brushing it out. Hopefully your daily "hair drama" isn't too intense. I can't imagine any other way to keep long hair clean besides washing it.
My kids (ages 2.5 and almost 6) both get a bath and their hair washed every day. The younger one still gets food in it (often syrup...sigh) and the older one is so active that his hair kind of smells if I skip a day.
Nightly. DD has long, curly hair, and the nights we do not wash her hair, it becomes a snarled mess. We only condition the bottom of it, though.
I dried the kids hair so they wouldn't go to bed with it wet. So it didn't matter how many times it got washed. Our kindergartner gets a shower several times per day. He's all boy and if he wants to play in the dirt it's going to quickly turn into mud if he can get the water turned on.
Both my kids have fine straight hair (son's is much shorter than daughter's). On a normal (not super hot, out in the sun/sunscreen/pool/grass) type of week, they get it washed 1-2x during the week and 1x on the weekends (before church). Obviously it's more if it's dirty, has food in it, etc.
We'v got a boy, with fine ringlets. He's 2.5 y.o. He gets a quick rinse (no soap or shampoo) in the morning, and a bath with bubbles at night. We shampoo his hair maybe once every 7-10 days.
How about a bandana, bonnet or hat?
Good luck to you and yours,

During the winter is 3-4 times a week when I bathe him, during warmer months it has to be daily because he's very active and sweats a lot.
My 2 yo daughter has long, wavy hair. I usually wash it every other night, unless it's a real mess. When I don't wash, I do rinse it off good. I do have to use leave in conditioner every night after bath.
I washed it as often as it looked/felt grody. And I kept it short until she was able to wash and brush it herself.
My two take a bath every-other-night and if they are not dirty, we push it off for another night. The reason being that they have dry skin and really can't shower daily. On the "in between" nights, they get a washcloth wipe down (including their hair and scalp).
Can you braid it? A tight french braid should actually last you two days and will keep her hair out of her face! You can also use just water to clean the "gunk out" using a spray bottle and a comb. You definitely don't want to dry our her scalp using shampoo each night!!
