I started potty traing my son when he was oh almost 2, But that was because he wasn't ready. One day he didnt want to wear them so that was easy. Now I have a little girl that just turned a year old and I'm wanting to know how old was it when you guys first potty trained yours? and Is it easier potty training a girl then a boy? I need to hurry up and potty train this one if I can before I have my new one. Don't want to be stressed out with having two in diappers.

What can I do next?

I"m probably in the exception, but my 4 year old son was potty trained at 18 months. His daycare teacher told me he was coming to them every time he wet his diaper and wanted changed immediately, so she suggested we try it. I didn't use pull ups. I just bought some undies and they used them for a week at daycare, and it took another weekend at home and that was it. We had a few accidents, but he didn't like feeling wet, so it went pretty fast. It really depends on the child though. I would say she's ready when she starts showing signs of wanting to be changed or taking an interest in what you're doing in the bathroom. I think the biggest mistake people make though is missing that window when kids first show an interest because you think they may be too young.

My daughter was much easier to potty train than my son. I started her at a little over a year. I just took her with me to the bathroom and while I peed she sat on ;her potty chair. We did this several times with the diaper on just to get her used to it. Then I started taking her diaper off of her. She was so proud the first time she "made pee pee sounds" in the toilet.

She was completely potty trained at the age of 18 months. I was shocked. My son took a lot longer to train. He didn't get completely trained until he was almost 3. Good luck

Hello,
Both of my children boy age 4 and girl age 6 started sitting on the potty before bath and when they were dry when I would go to change them at about 15 months. My daughter was 18 months when she was potty trained, and my son was 2 when he was potty trained, meaning that they had no accidents during the day. They took to it really easy, but I paid attention to when they would start to go. We used pull ups only at bedtime and naptime, other than that we used big kid pants. The first 2 weeks it was messy kind of. The first couple of times they would go in their pants then on they would start to go then stop themselves and run into the bathroom.
If you start now with putting her on the potty and making it fun you shouldn't have too many problems.
Good luck.

I potty trained my son when he was 2 and a half yrs old. and I will do the same here in the next few months with my daughter..... but my momther keeps telling me that at 18 monthes kids are ready.. but i think all kids are differnt. your daughter will give you a sign.
I had 2 kids in Diapers at once.. but only for about 6monthes it was not that bad.b/c you figure a toddler does not go through as many diapers as a new born. i hope it all works out for you. good luck.

I am starting to PT my 19 month old son. He started telling me when he went so I got him a lil potty chair and now just put him on it every hour and if he goes he goes and he will get a small treat... Like a bag of fruit gummies etc. He has started to tell me that he has to go but im not pusing too hard because I know some people that push them hard and they go back to diapers and refuse the potty chair. Hope this helps.

Hi M.,
We introduced the potty a couple of months ago but didn't get serious about it until 2 weeks ago and now she goes in there on her own and pretty much has no accidents. bedtime she still wears pullups though. she will be 3 in may. I had my daughter (4th child) in november so we wanted to wait until all that excitement was over. It's my advice not to even try with your daughter, at 1 year old they barely know what is going on in their diaper. you would cause yourself more heartache trying to get her potty trained than having 2 in diapers. I would wait until she is at least 2 years old. girls seem to be younger and easier, but there is an exception to every rule. hope this helps W.

I started training my oldest just after she turned 2. I was like you, I didn't want two in diapers, and I thought she was ready. She was 2 1/2 when my son was born, and wasn't fully potty trained until right around her 3rd birthday. It was very frustrating for the both of us. My son was much easier in the potty training process. When he was 2 1/2, I started to potty train him; he didn't have much interest or seem interested before then. Things were going well, but he wasn't ready for regular underwear yet. He spent a weekend at my moms, and when he came home, he was fully potty trained. (My mom still won't tell me how she did it.) My youngest daughter is now 2 1/2, and she seems ready, but refuses to actually go when she is on either her potty chair or the toilet. She loves taking off her diapers, and sometimes wearing big girl underwear, and she never has accidents then. When I know she has to go, I'll put her on the potty, but she will hold it. The second I put a diaper on her, (and I mean literally within 60 seconds...I've timed her) she will pee in her diaper. So my girls are a little more stubborn about it than my son was. They will get the hang of it when they are ready. I don't particularly like having a 3 year old still in diapers, but they aren't the only 3 year olds who aren't completely potty trained. Another mom is absolutely right when she said it's harder to push a child that isn't ready than it is to have 2 in diapers. Start introducing it whenever you feel she is ready, but don't get down on yourself if things don't go smoothly with her. Very few one year olds are potty trained, but it never hurts to let them know at any time how "big people" use the bathroom. Good luck!

I felt the same as you and didn't want 2 in diapers at the same time so I started my daughter at 18 mos and my son was born when she was 20 mos....BUT she was bottle broken at 13 mos and she started waking up dry in the mornings so she was ready. She trained easily with alot of praise and some cute frilly girly panties. lol. Good luck!

I think the average age of potty training is around 2 years old. Some children train earlier and some train later. I would say at 1, that would be a huge difficulty. They don't understand words and expressions as well for you to communicate potty training them. I would say wait until about 18-20 months even if you want to start potty training early. My son is 21 months and he is just now starting to understand he has a potty seat for going to the bathroom.

Hi M.....

First of all congrats on your new little one that is coming. I have both a boy and a girl. The boy is now 12 and I seriously thought he was NEVER going to be potty trained. He was almost 4 when we finally got there. My daughter on the other hand was a BREEZE. She is now 4 years old, but we started training when she was about 1.5 years old and she was potty trained within about 2-3 weeks total. I found the key with her was to NOT use pull-ups I used real panties. (That way she felt like a big girl and she got to pick them out) She hated to feel wet or dirty and quickly figured out that if she went in the potty then she would never feel that way. Good Luck to you!!

I waited for each of my children to show me they were ready. The first boy was about 19 mos, the second was much older, he was 3 yrs. My oyungets child, my daughter showed interest right before her 2nd birthday. Each child is different and develops at their own rate.
I didn't use pull ups, and I try to discourage the parents at my preschool from using them. They aren't so great at letting them know when they are wet. My kids wore cloth underpants and hated the feel of accidents.

My middle child was the most difficult.

We got my daughter a potty right after she turned one. By about 14 months, we had her sit on it a few times a day and at bath time. By the time she was 18 months, she was going a few times a day and wasn't really wetting her Pull-ups anymore. By 2, she was pretty much potty trained during the day. She's 28 months now and wears panties with maybe a couple accidents a week. We do have occasional accidents and it has taken longer than it would if we had waited until she was older, but we've saved tons on the diapers we didn't have to use (which was the point bc we were going to try for another & wound up with twins due in 3 weeks.) I think it's never too early to at least introduce them to the idea.

We started potty training our 3 year old when she was almost 2 1/2. But when baby brother came she started refusing to even sit on the toilet. After about 2 months she just started using the toilet again. I personal think 1 is to young, but you know your child and if she's interested I don't think it'll hurt. Just don't be to disappointed if you end up w/ 2 in diapers for a little bit. It's not that bad.

My daughter is 2 and 6 months. She is still not ready to potty train. We have tried but when she started screaming and having a fit when the word potty was mencionded we stopped trying. We didn't want her to be upset in the potty and not go. Now we take her in the morning if we wake her up. She is pretty good about not going all night. Sometimes she wants to go when I go. I encourage her to go. I don't want her to feel pressured to use the potty. My sister-in-law has a 4 and 2 year olds. They had started to potty train the older one before the younger one was born then when he was born the older one - a girl- didn't want to be potty trained and had "accidents" for about the first year. When she was 3 she wanted to be potty trained and is for the most part. She still has accidents but they are few and far between.

I felt like my twins weren't quite ready to try at one, they had a sister when they were 14 1/2 months. I tried 2 times, once at 18 months and once at 2. Both were unsuccessful. at 2 1/2 i tried again and completely potty trained them in 2 weeks. With their younger sister I just waited until almost 2 1/2 and she did the same thing. 2 weeks and she was potty trained. I had a Day Care parent you started potty training at 2 and it took almost 10 months before she was 100% potty trained.

So I had 3 in diapers for about a year and a half, but it was worth it to wait in the end because the frustration wasn't worth it trying to potty train girls that just started rebelling because they weren't ready. Good Luck.
