I am planning on getting a baby backpack to use this spring and summer. Has anyone found a backpack that they really like. I want something that is not too bulky, something that will be good for everyday outings like trips to the farmers market or concerts on the square.

Go to pepermint.com and buy a wrap. It is the best thing that I ever bought. I can even use it for my 2 and a half year old when I go shopping. I have 3 kids and one day I put the youngest two in the stroller and my oldest (the 2 and a half year old) in the wrap and it was so comfortable for him that he fell asleep in there. I love it and you can use it so many different ways.
Yes! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Ergo Baby Carrier. It's soft and folds up nicely, it ergonomic to the body (hence the name) and my daughter loved it. It holds up to 40 pounds and I could carry her around anywhere. I like that you put it on just like a back pack (instead of clips and color coded buttons, etc, etc.) You can wear the baby on your front, back or side. I could also nurse her with it. I also have the matching small purse that turns into a fanny pack that straps onto the ergo carrier and the newborn insert (she was in the ergo since she was a newborn up until past one year old).

I own a Kelty back pack. I love it I used it with my daughter and now my son. I bought the protector that attaches to the top so that if it were really sunny they would have shade plus the sides on it roll down in case it rains. I spent about $120 on it at the time and was a very good investment. And when you take it off your back it stands on its own so then you can feed them and they can still be sitting in it. Its Great!! YOu can buy them at most sporting goods stores, Dicks Sports, Scheels, REI, or on Kelty.com. If you get one I hopeyou enjoy it as much as we do. We take it camping and use it when we go to the mall. I also use it when I go shopping with both the kids that way I have the little one right on my back and then he is not fighting to get down out of the cart and he is 18 months old and still uses it. We love it
I bought a backpack from Target in '04. It was the only one there. It's not too big or small and I love it. BabiesRUs has a backpack (not Eddie Bauer) too but I found it to be way too big and bulky. It sits upright better than mine though. Sorry I don't have specific brands.
I wouldnt get a back pack I would get a baby mei tei it works great.and really light to carry because all it is is fabric one of the other moms on mamsource made one for me when I went to florida it is great.
I like to use a slinge. It is made of fabric so minimal weight is added and you can place the baby in several different ways. You can order them online, if you have a children's consignment store in your area you maybe able to find one there too, not sure what stores carry them. I prefer one with out all the padding around the outer area.
I don't know what I would have done without my Kelty back pack stroller combo. It was quite spendy but so worth it. I could carry my son on my back and set him down if he got to heavy. It also has a sun shade and diaper bag attachment so it is very handy. For short outings or inside I use an infantino from Target but my back hurts a lot quicker than when I use the one with a metal frame. Good Luck.

I looked at REI for the really nice ones- they were great, but cost a hundred dollars or more. Babies R Us has one that is $50 or so. It is not as light-weight as the ones at REI, but works well, is easy on your back and supports the baby. The brand is Snugli, I think. It is the kind with the metal frame that can hold kids up to 30-40 lbs. Also, I didnt know this before I got mine, but some Once Upon a Child stores have these- for a good price.
www.steepandcheap.com has a really cool one featured right now for $55. Its a backpack that unzips to a baby carrier, with a harness and everything. Its really cool.
Did you mean a way to transport your child or a baby diaper backpack to carry diapers & supplies in?
Try the hip pack from onestepahead.com - it is light and comfortable and can easily fit in a diaper bag or medium purse. I used mine for years and loved every minute. It also has a pocket that will hold a wallet. And very affordable!
If you are talking about long-term wear, I would suggest a wrap. They are cloth so they fold up small. There is great versatility and you can still carry a regular backpack if you need storage. I make and sell them - www.onebighappy.net.
If you really want a backpack though, we have a Kelty and it'spretty nice - they get spendy though. We have the sun/rain hood and would like to get the stirrups. Long rides in it are h*** o* baby's spine, which is why I prefer a wrap.
