I have a rather large old decoupaged picture on wood. It looks a if someone scribbled on it with a crayon or something containing wax when it was off the wall for an extended period of time. I would like to be able to rehang it as it has some sentimental value now. Any suggestions on how to clean without redoing the finish? I'm not very good when it comes to crafts and such. Thanks ladies in advance.

Goo Be Gone - can be purchased at Lowes.
White tooth paste with some grain (baking soda) in it.
I use baby oil to remove crayon marks off my walls. Maybe that would work for this too.
What is the picture finished with? If it's a type of polyurethane, then you should be able to use magic erasers on them. If you know, email me at ____@____.com and I can probably find something you would be able to use to clean it up.

I would try Goo Gone first, just a little, with a soft cloth. If that doesn't work, maybe try a Magic Eraser, but start out rubbing gently, as it may affect the finish. (If you do scratch the finish, decoupage is not hard to do. You can buy the medium at a craft store and just brush it on your picture with a paintbrush.) Good luck!

De-solv-it cleans anything gummy or waxy without harm. Unfortunately Walmart has quit carrying it. I buy it online by the gallon. It's the only thing I have found to spray on laundry that will remove any kind of grease spots. It's saved many a school uniform!
Hi M.. I've never been in this particular situation, but it seems to me that if you heated the waxy stuff with an iron on low or a hair dryer, it might warm enough to wipe off? If you use the iron, put a towel over the picture. All of this of course depends on the actual decoupage medium. Try it on an inconspicuous spot first, if there is one on your picture. Maybe the bottom corner. Also, maybe you could try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser??? Don't those clean everything?!?!?! :) Good Luck!
